I have known Dan for a good number of years, both here on the DIS and in real life at WDW. He is a very nice guy so whatever the tag was, it must have been a doozy.

I'd at least like to know if it was actually a somehow offensive tag . If it wasn't, then why not just change it back yourself and leave it at that? Even if it has happened before. Making a big deal out of it is just a way of letting the supposed tag "bully" succeed with her junior high antics.

But it's also a huge pet peeve of mine for people to start a thread like this and then just vanish from it. It's just the offended person posting for no other reason than to make other people feel offended and to drag them into the fight.

But as I tell my kids, I don't care if your sibling pees on your head--you can't lash out back at them. No, the sibling would never pee on their head, but they often over react to the simplest things and cause themselves to get in trouble.

I'm sure he is a wonderful person. I have seen many of his posts over the years.

However, he could have handled this in a more appropriate way and I don't understand why anyone would get a "pass" for being rude--just because.

I didn't see the tag, I haven't seen his past complaints--but if it were anybody else--folks would have had a problem with the manner of the post and I don't think any DISer should get a pass just b/c they are as sweet as pie in real life.

Lisa, I think when this type thing happens and happens again and then again and other rude remarks are made (not in tag form), it can get very old and trying. I've seen it, maybe you have not. Having read your posts over the years, I'm betting you'd be ticked off also.

People that know him in RL or *know* him here are not going to think he is unapproachable. There's a history here, not a one time deal, where he got ticked and flew off the handle creating this thread. I wish it'd just end peacefully.

It's 10 in Central. He posted at 6:48 p.m. And no, I don't expect people to just sit around baby-sitting their threads. But if a normal person posts a heated, passionate thread using words like "damn" and "hell" on the DIS about something done by the DIS, you can bet that the majority will at least peep in before bedtime.

And before anyone says, "Well, you haven't met Dan", I have. A few times. He has always been nice to me, but from this post and from some others in the past, it is also obvious that he can have quite the temper. It's a changeable tag, for heaven's sake. Now if it said "Dan hates puppies" or some other nonsense, then I can see why he'd be this upset. But if it said something neutral or positive like most tags do, then why let it bug you so much? I still don't know what it said, so I have no idea if anger worthy of posting was called for, or just a little irritation.

It's two issues; sarcasm and harassment. They change it to something they know will upset him AND they change it to upset him because they know how he feels about it.

They do the tag knowing how he feels about it, then they sit back and laugh. It is certainly intentional. It's happened several times before and everyone who works for the DIS knows Dan and knows how he feels about this and so do many oldtimers.

Lisa, I'm on my way to bed but I wanted to just say that there are no "passes". People always think that Dan is so loved here that he gets a pass for it. That is just not true. Many posters are friends with Dan (on here and in RL) or have been kind to him in the past or he to them. Dan is the kind of friend you want in life--he reaches out--even in hard times of life. Because of that, many people like him. Many people don't too--for a lot of reasons. To each their own. Everyone won't like everyone in RL (or the DIS, lol). But that's posters and fairies aren't "posters" and the higher ups don't like him much and you just wouldn't know it if you didn't read it for yourself. I remember the day I met...oh never mind It was an eye opener though.

That's just it. It isn't innocent like most other tags. In fact, it isn't like any other tag that I've ever seen here. And yeah, I've seen some tags and read some responses so it isn't like the man is making it up. I wished he was, but he wasn't.

I don't get why whoever is higher up than the Tag Fairy doesn't tell the TF to quit doing it. I haven't seen any of the offensive tags, so I have no idea how bad they are. If it's bullying, I don't get why it continues to go on. After all, this is a disney message board and you would think bullying wouldn't be tolerated by anyone.

I guess if someone kept doing that to me, I would just delete the tag and change it back. If the tags are done as a form of bullying, then it seems like the purpose would be to get a reaction. So, I wouldn't keep showing a reaction. JMO.

Dan--I am not really familiar with you as a poster. Seeing this thread, I recall another similar one, which I am almost sure was you, from a few months ago. However, seeing your name out of the context of the thread I would have never made the connection. I think one of three things is happening here:

1. Not every tag fairy knows you as a poster and knows about your wishes and it is just a simple mistake.

2. Some one (or more) tag fairy likes to get a rise out of you.

3. Some combination of the above.

In either case the best way to handle it is simply to erase the tag and not make any fuss or other acknowledgement at all. If it was an innocent mistake, by a new fairy (or one who just does not frequent the boards you do), then it does no good to start a thread and make that person feel badly for trying to do a nice thing. If it is someone who wants to get a rise out of you--well you took the bait, didn't you? I think the "fun" would wear off pretty quickly if you did not make an issue out of the tags every time they show up.
