So my point is, if tags stay on the posts you made when you had them, it would be difficult to ignore tags you didn't want.

No, when you change them it goes onto the old posts, just like when you change your signature, it goes to the old posts. I recently noticed that another board I'm on keeps the old signature even when you change it going forward; only board I've been on that does that!




I wouldn't have been able to name the poster who doesn't want tags, but when I saw this post I remembered that he's had this problem before... So many who want tags but he's given ones he doesn't want...

Ignore it, Dan. Like Nana and Bumbershoot said, it's terrible that with so many people begging for tags, the elusive Tag Fairy spends his/her/its time bestowing tags on someone who has made it clear he doesn't want one. It is very obviously spitework, so don't give the tag creature the satisfaction of showing that you care.

I'm sorry, I don't understand. What is a tag? tag fairy?

A tag is a quote of something you posted here on the DIS. They put it over <--- there under your name in color.

A tag fairy is a mod who puts it there.

This is basically it in a nutshell. The tag fairy comes along and pulls something you said completely out of context to make what you said sound silly. Most people love the tags, but a few do not. You can easily delete them if you want. You can also add your own, but the tag fairy is the only one who can do them in color.

As for the debate, I am not getting involved with that.

I don't think anyone, esp the Tag Fairy, would harrass a poster. Esp one who has been a member for so long and is such a nice guy. I prefer to chalk it up to an accident, or a newbie who was unaware. Either way, we are going to lose the TF for good because people are always either begging for tags or getting mad when they get one (not singleing you out, Dan).

I don't think it matters. For as long as I've been on these boards, I remember that Dan did not want another tag besides the one he had. His wishes should be respected.

IIRC, the first time this happened--and it was several years ago--the tag was more like sarcasm than name calling. Anytime after that--I think it's been a few times--I have no idea if the tag was name calling. I only know that whatever it was, Dan stated plainly he didn't want it.

In any event, I tend to think that the job of tab fairy isn't given to many (or even any) newcomers, so I doubt this happened because the TF didn't know Dan's wishes. Any of us who have been around even for just a few years know the deal.

Tell me you're joking?????!!?!!!!?? You expect people that start threads to stick around here 24/7 to comment constantly on their own thread? Wow! Some people have real lives OFF the internet. Some of us like to sleep, eat, go to work, spend time with our families, exercise....the possibilities OFF the internet are unending; you should give it a try sometime instead of getting mad because people don't obsess over their own threads.

Unless I misunderstand my DIS lore, this is all someone else's sandbox that we're playing in. And you would think that someone who likes the sandbox that much would realize that the tag fairy probably outranks them with TPTB and would just delete the offending tag and move on.

That's the ugliness of it. If it were just a tag, I'd tell him to get over it it also. It isn't done in friendly fun--but I suppose it is "fun"--sorta like cyber bullying can be for some people, I guess.

I think you are correct in that there is more than one person who is a "tag fairy". But I think one fairy may have some horns to go with those fairy wings.

But as I tell my kids, I don't care if your sibling pees on your head--you can't lash out back at them. No, the sibling would never pee on their head, but they often over react to the simplest things and cause themselves to get in trouble.

I've been around for a while and I never knew that a tag would tick you off that much. But now you seem very unapproachable despite your reputation as as nice guy.
