I have an old 4MP PowerShot A80. I think it takes great pictures, but it is the size of a small house :rotfl: ! I would really like a pocket/slim camera.

I have been looking at the Canon Powershot 6mp or an Olympus Stylus 7.1.

Do you have any suggestions? I am going out shopping tomorrow.

Please give us some model numbers b/c just 6MP Powershot describes about ten cameras. I am guessing that it is a SD line one if it is small.

I guess size is truly in the eye of the beholder. We had an A70 and it is way smaller than everything we have had since (S1 IS, wife's S2 IS, and Pentax K100D).

True, size is in the eye of the beholder. I purchased a slim Sony for my Dh and he loves it. I take most of the pictures in my family and hate having to lug a large camera around. I am thinking of the Canon SD600 or Olympus 720SW.

That entire line of Canons seem to get nice reviews. Have you checked out any reviews? I like steves-digicams.com, dcresource.com, and dpreview.com.

For the price, it's hard to beat. I have an S80, which I love, but it has the same zoom index the SD600 has, and that zoom is a limitation for me. I have troubles getting good shots when having to stand in the back at parades. (I'm fixing this though with my new Canon 30D and a 70-200mm f2.8L telephoto lens. But, this is a luggable :-( )

Here's a review of the SD600:

Thanks for your help and reviews. I am going to reseach a little bit more and make a decision before our Jan. trip.

My wife and sister-in-law both have an SD600 and my mother got an SD630 (same but with 3" screen) for Christmas... The SD600 is very nice for a tiny camera. I would not expect to get the quality that you'll get in a larger upscale PnS camera (and quite possibly no better than an older 4mp camera.)

If size is the main concern and that's the budget you're looking at (very low $200s online), it's a very good choice.

The comparable Fuji and/or Sony may be even better, but I haven't seen a direct comparison of that generation of pocket cameras. Unfortunately, both of those use proprietary, more expensive memory cards.
