I've wondered why there are no 'how'd we do' cards in our villas at any of the DVC's. I read all these posts of folks being upset due to lack of housekeeping/maintence issues when perhaps they weren't aware. Think of the pressure these poor folks in housekeeping are under knowing there's some DVC member frothing at the mouth to get checked in at 8 or 9am instead of the 3 or 4pm. No wonder they're knocking on our doors at 8am!
(My first visit to DVC, I wondered why there were so many 'privacy please' tags hanging on the doors, well, I learned fast). I'd love to see one of those little notecards so we could let DVC know that perhaps a lightbulb's out, doorknob broken, etc. Disney's satisfaction would be higher if they'd be proactive instead of reactive. Who wants to spend time on their well earned vacation having to call maintence/housekeeping and dealing with them vs being in the parks?
Yes, I know some of us get postcards for a survey, but I've all but forgotten which CM was extra nice 2 weeks after my vacation.
Just a thought.........................

using cards sounds like a good idea but as far as
"knowing there's some DVC member frothing at the mouth to get checked in at 8 or 9am instead of the 3 or 4pm." I don't think HK worries about that. We as DVC members know that check-in is not till 4 PM so no frothing :rotfl2: at the mouth is allowed.

Hmm.. I have sent PLENTY of "Frothing" LOL! (And if I was treated the way some folks treat the CMs at check in... you would be in the room with EVERYTHING broken and the dumpster view. YELLING at the CM because your room is not ready at 9 am is RUDE!!!!)

Yep, unfortunately I have witnessed a guest meltdown occasionally at check-in. It isn't pretty :(

As for the OP, there is a pen and paper in the room. I usually just write a nice note and leave it with the tip on housecleaning days for minor room problems. They are usually taken care.

I think some sort of checklist might be a good idea.
I have often thought that I should get organized enough to make myself a checklist to run through when we get into our room. It would help me remember to check for things that have been broken/missing in the past so I can call engineering to take care of it *before* we need it. Things like checking for the lint trap in the dryer (have been missing for us 2x), laundry basket, does the stove work, does the tv work, do all fixtures have lightbulbs, etc.
You know, I could probably be writing that checklist up for myself right now instead of reading the DIS.
Does anyone have other items that they check for when getting into a room?

I make a note to keep with me regarding CMs who have been extra nice during my vacation. If I don't get a survey, I mail a letter.

Your post got me to thinking. Does anyone know if they are to provide laundry baskets at SSR?? I noticed on our last trip we didn't have one but my friend at BCV did. I thought maybe since where they put our washer/dryer in such a small area we just weren't supposed to have one. Does anybody know?

we had one at SSR this past trip. It was under the sink next to the master tub.

I didn't notice it until our 5th day :p

Ok, so at least we are supposed to have one. Good next time I will look. I ended up throwing everything on the table in the kitchen-ish area next to the W/D to fold it and such.

So funny...... my DD13 found ours the day we were checking out because I had her checking all the cabinets to make sure that we didn't forget anything! I too did the laundry on the kitchen table!!!

Having been a DVC member for so long I perform my own little "check list" when we get into our 'home'. First the lightbulbs. I absolutely hate turning on a light with a burned out bulb. And I know which lamps should have 3 way bulbs so I check that too.
On one memorable trip at Thanksgiving, we had my folks, my sister and her youngest daughter with us. We had arrived early in the morning, checked in and stored our luggage with bell services. After 'breakfast' at Olivia's, some pool time and some errands our room was ready in mid afternoon. My folks, my niece and my sister chose to ride in the bell services cart while I drove the van.
While the very nice bell CM was showing everyone the amenities I was checking for burned out lightbulbs. I opened the refrigerator and noticed that the light did not go on. I reached in to check the bulb and got a little shock because the bulb was missing. Then my sister reached in and then my father did the same thing and so did the CM. By this time we were yelling "Don't touch it the bulb is missing!" The CM called maintenance and before he left a lovely lady from maintenance showed up to check out the problem. She of course reached in to check the bulb as we all again yelled about the missing bulb. That bulb was replaced very quickly! ;)
Anytime that I notice a small problem I notify Housekeeping/maintenance and/or the front desk as soon as possible. I found that this helps them keep up on things. After all with the need for a quick turnover necessary for those overly anxious 'guests' I am sure that some things get missed. And if something isn't resolved within a day I call again with a gentle reminder!
My best response to a call came at 6:00 AM at BWV when the toilet overflowed! They were quick to get someone up to fix it and clean up too! And I had a call from a supervisor to make certain that I was satisfied.
I feel that it is my home away from home and I should care about how it is maintained the same as I do at my regular home! :smooth:
