I have a slight dilemma; any advice would be appreciated.

Yep this is me, well, I'm not really considering BWV but I do want poly 2 direct if it ends up being separate association along with resale BLT and CCV.
I am trying to have either a monorail or Crescent Lake resort to go with my SSR SAP points.

I think we can stay at BLT on the SSR points, but I really think I have to see Poly2 before I can decide.

Riviera or Boardwalk I need to buy at either resort to be able to book there.

I was against 2042 but my wife and I would be 84/85 and my daughter 51 when it expires. I figure we could always add another contract in 2042 just for my daughter and granddaughter as owners if they still want to own DVC then.

I am also a point chart person and have trouble going against the good charts.

Yeahh my partner and I would be closer to your daughter's age when BCV/BWV expires. Love both resorts but it doesn't make sense for us. RIV is going to be our primary hub for food and wine, BCV and BWV we'll prob try to get at 7 months during less desirable months like summer and then split that with AKV/poly/BLT.

I originally thought it did not make sense for us either. My daughter has shown interest, so I am rethinking it. I guess with the great point chart and at the right price it makes as much sense as any other resort.

If you can get it for around 100 pp with dues it'd probably bring it down to about 13 dollars in total per point and then add in the point chart that those 2042 resorts have and it's pretty much about the same as any other resort. With my current plans I'm already set to hit over 1,000 points without BWV/BCV and I don't need my partner to murder me for wanting more. :P

So, my first world problem is wondering if I should just rescind my purchase with Disney directly and go purchase a resale contract.

I recently purchased (within the last 3 days) a 150 VGF contract directly from Disney. I really wanted Riviera but just couldn't justify the resale restrictions on it, so I stuck with VGF. Well, I was looking at the resale market and I can buy a 200-point SSR contract much cheaper and with way more points. I know the deed expires way sooner and SSR is typically considered the "resort of last resorts", but I don't really care about every staying at VGF. The resort isn't really my style. I'm okay with SSR as a home resort and then having options at different resorts at the 7-month window. I feel like VGF as a home resort is kind of useless for me, between the point costs of the room and the resort itself.

However, with that being said, I wonder how much I will regret not being a "blue card member" for not buying direct.
Just curious if anyone else has similar thoughts.

1. Rescind since you have questions. DVC will be happy to do a new contract if you do decide it was the correct way to go.
2. Consider if you want to always stay at Riviera. If so then that's the reason to own there. If it's only occasional in the rotation then probably not. You can still stay there via other means such as point transfer, renting a reservation etc or even paying cash.
3. Overlooked in almost every response was you stating you'd be fine having SSR as your home resort. Most do consider it a last resort location so that's not abnormal. Frankly it's a screaming deal for WDW. The standard view point room categories, low resale prices and lower dues are a still the best for SAP and home resort too if you like to stay there. The 2054 end date still leaves 30 years of trips. And it's not impossible to book other locations depending on the time you go and the room category you intend to book.
4. You normally book 6 months out. If you'll change your habit and book much further in advance then the home resort will matter more. If you are most likely to continue with a 6 month booking or even 7 month then your home resort might as well be a screaming deal.

Purely from a financial standpoint, direct purchases can't compete with resale. Take Copper Creek as an example. Direct price is $250 per point. You can buy resale for $150 per point. So on a 150 point contract you would save $15,000 purchasing resale. And remember, if you are financing instead of paying cash that difference is magnified due to the interest on the additional $15,000. I don't see how the discounts (food, merch, annual passes, etc..) could ever close that gap. So if the money is the key factor in the decision, it's better to buy resale and just know that the discounts you are missing out on are far less valuable than the cash you saved on the purchase. Now... I get it... people buy direct for other reasons. I think the three most compelling "non discount" benefits are member events (such as Moonlight Magic), member lounges, and use of ALL properties (right now that means Riviera, but soon it MIGHT mean others, such as the new Poly tower). Most remaining benefits require you use points for things like cruises or the World Collections, and I have never found those to be a good value for your points. So are are lounges, Moonlight Magic, and Riviera access worth $15,000+? For us the answer was "no". For others the answer is "yes". Different strokes for different folks!

Regarding which resort to chose, I agree with the "buy where you want to stay" idea, but I add a twist to that. I say "buy at the least expensive resort which you love, being perfectly happy staying there if nothing else is available at a non-home-resort". For example, we own two AKL contracts. We love it there. But sometimes we want to branch out and try other resorts. So, we will book our trip at AKL at the 11 month window. Then at the seven month window we will try to book the same dates at Poly, for example. If available we are golden. We cancel AKL and book Poly. If not, we might try Copper Creek. If we strike out everywhere, we are thrilled to be staying at AKL. It has a savanna, amazing theming, fantastic food, and we rent a car at Disney so we don't mind the lack of transportation. Win-win.

Hope this helps.

There was just a CCV sale for $119

Been going back and forth about purchasing. Nervous about this scenario as well! Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your current thought process :)

I agree they definitely can't, but I think it's the fear of missing out that direct has. I know it's a mind game that Disney plays but it does work. I go back and forth between resale and direct, because the perks don't really matter to me but being locked out of resorts does scare me. Like the new Poly 2, I'd be so disappointed if I were locked out of that, however on the other hand my brain is thinking, that's fine. You can purchase a resale Poly1 contract for way cheaper and that is my number one favorite resort. I just can't afford to spend that direct with Disney but I don't want to have FOMO at the same time.

Locked out of anywhere is also a mindset. No DVC resort is unavailable to those who don't own there. You just might not be able to book there with your own points. Cash, rent a reservation, transfer points in. And rent out your own points to cover it if you wish. IF you want to always stay at one of the restricted resorts then it's likely best to own at it. IF you want to stay all over then the evaluations gets more complicated if cost is a consideration to the purchase.
