I am a long-time lurker, and have been to WDW several times, but I just signed on as a poster (this, in fact, is only my second), and now I have a question, but not sure where to post it. If the mods need to move this to a more appropriate forum, I understand.

Anyway, I am a 45 year old teacher from the midwest (you only get one guess on the state :) ), and on my last 3 visits to WDW (2 - Dolphin, 1 - POFQQ), I have really fallen in love with the idea that after I retire, moving to Orlando and getting a job piloting one of the resort boats that service the areas I have stayed. A few years ago, one of the pilots I talked to (from Dolphin to Epcot) told me that he was a retired teacher from Indiana, and since that time, I have dreamed of doing the same.

My question is: How feasible is this? Also, where do I look up information on salary/benefits, etc? I looked on the Employment area of the WDW site, but there was no tab to click on for "Transportation", only areas like "Food Service" or "Entertainment". I would have thought with all the different modes of transportation, that would be a major area. Of course, the dream job would be to run the monorail, but I don't aspire to such lofty goals.:)

So, if anyone has information of where I should look, or knows someone who pilots a boat, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks.

Hmmmmm. I am not going to move this post because you might get some answers here.

But I suggest that you might want to post about this on our Transportation board http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16 . I believe that we have several Disney CM's that work for transportation over there that might be able to help you out.

Sure sounds like a fun dream! Good luck! How many years until retirement?

Thanks for the heads up. I may try the Transportation board if I don't get anything here.

I'm not sure on how long I'll wait until retirement. I could leave at 55, but my wife, who would love to work in a Disney store, is two years younger, so I would probably wait until 57.

Much would depend on if it would be financially feasible.

I have the same notion as you.
