I have a problem, a big problem....

Am I the only one who's seeing a deeper agenda here? I don't know, but the OP seems to be harping on the fact that the new doctor is Jewish. How does that matter to the story? He sounds like a jerk, regardless of his religion or ethnicity.

I'm right there with you.:sad2:

Me too. This just sounds odd.

The only thing I can figure is that the owner is Orthodox and keeps kosher and the list of approved lunhc places are all Kosher or serve parve-only meals? that way, no non-kosher food can be brought into his office?

Harping? She just told us what happened. If this story isn't believable then neither are another 75% of the stories people tell on this board.

I just keep thinking, if this happened to my Jewish friends in reverse, a Christian boss would say it was a shame they weren't Christian and that they couldn't take their holidays off and were given a "Christian list", I think they'd make an eeoc complaint or something like that.

if all you say is true, you are not doing your profession a service by coming on this board and whining. you should go to your boss and sit down with him/her and solve this conflict. there just is something wrong about venting about a fellow physician on a message board, and letting others bash him/her when they really dont know the whole story. not trying to be mean, but something just doesnt add up here.

 Everyone who bashes anyone here is doing the same... it's called venting.

Nope. I'm not a cynical person, but immediately after reading the original post I sensed an agenda, and not a nice one. If I'm wrong I apologize in advance, but the story doesn't ring true.

Maybe the OP will come back and clear things up for us.

Maybe the OP is not a doc but a nurse venting;)

Since religion is one of the bases for discrimination under Title VII, the fact he is using her religious difference from himself as reasoning for his attitude towards her, that fact is important. Lots of bosses are jerks;) , but this one has defined his behavior towards OP based on religion, which is unacceptable under the law.

What kind of a Doctor are you? (I didn't know Doctors said "crap" ;) )
Why not? Harvard- and Columbia-educated potential U.S. Senate appointees pepper interviews with over 140 "you know"s and countless "um"s and "uh"s ;)

Realistically, he is being discriminatory. I'm no lawyer (nor do I play one on TV ;) )
But did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?

Nope, they belong to the "practice". He is demanding about NO Holisitic medicine at all, NO PARENTS can come back with the children and payment must be made in full up front. Just such a huge change from what we did before.

Ok..they belong to the practice...but when you leave you can still send postcards to the client base telling them where you are.

This doc is NUTS. I would never let a doctor see my kids without me in the room!! IS he nuts?? And there is nothing wrong with holistic medicine. Patients should be given options!! And payment before you go to see the doctor...well I pay my copay as soon as I check in. That I am used to...at least with some of my docs.

I don't blame your for looking for another job. Good luck!

He told me it would be so much EASIER, if I was Jewish. Then he gave me the "list" and told me that we would work next Christmas and have all the Jewish holidays off.

That's so stupid of him. First of all...makes better business that you aren't Jewish. You will work the Jewish holiday..and him the Christian ones. Then he won't have to close!! :rotfl2:

I'd like to see a staff member keep me from going into the examining room with my children. What kind of office is this? I've never heard of anything like this in my life.

We actually had a pediatric dentist that discouraged parents from going back with the kids. Needless to say..he is our former dentist. :confused3

If she is a physician, most likely she cannot do this - she would be in violation of standard language in physicians' contracts - generally they carry hefty civil penalties for violating.

We had a practice we went to...First one doc died..then one retired...all the others coming in..well...I didn't like them. So we stuck to one doctor in the practice. When he left, we got a postcard saying that he was at such and such. We changed docs at that time..since there was no one at the practice I was willing to see.

that would be the day when they told me i couldn't go back with my child. nope, would walk out. he will be losing business for sure over this. In fact I know for a fact that they cannot prevent a parent from going in with a child for anything. They would open themselves up to potential liability if they took a child in for an exam and made the parent stay in the waiting room.
nope, that would not ever happen.

what medical office is open christmas day:confused3 never heard of it unless it has urgent care component. Doesn't happen.

can i ask what state you are in?

Plenty of doctors open on Christmas day...They are Jewish doctors in religious neighborhoods...with mainly Jewish Clients...yes...they are open on Christmas Day. Just go to Boro Park Brooklyn, Lakewood NJ, and many others. Yeshivas are open on Christmas Day..unless it coincides with their Chanukah break.

YOu are KIDDING right? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

You do realize that Doctors are HUMAN.... right?:confused3
I was thinking the same thing. My Dr is a very well respected Perinatologist (just kept him as my ob after I had my kids). When I was complaining about what a jerk my ex is he called him a pr**k.

I understand that it would be a pain in many ways to own your own office, but it sounds like it would be better to be your own boss and have absolute control than worry about getting into another bad associate position. If you opened a office and ran a few newspaper ads with your photograph, I bet you would get a lot of former patients who are unhappy with the new guy. I would think that some of the front office people and nurses might not like him either and would want to come with you too.

The pain in her opening her own office is MONEY. Do you have any idea how much that would cost...plus the cost of mal practice insurance for the practice!! I understand why she doesn't want the added burden and stays being an associate.

I have happily practiced medicine in a family business for many years. I pay rent, but don't own, and don't have to worry about hiring a CPA because someone else pays my salary (I'm an associate and can do my taxes with Turbo Tax...woo hoo, lol) and life has been good.

The head doctor sold the practice to another doctor. I met him a few weeks ago and he expressed a genuine distress that I was not Jewish :confused3 (he is).

I have since been given a list of places I should frequent for lunch, dentistry, obgyn, allergist, dermatologist, nails, waxing, message....you get the picture.:confused3

Crap, I think I may have to look for another job, or venture out on my own. I feel this is so discriminatory....but I don't think I can do anything. If anyone could share stories or keep me in their good thoughts, I would be appreciative.

WHAT! ARe you kidding me? Talk about discrimination. What if the shoe was on the other foot. ACLU would be banging on YOUR door.

If I were the doctor I would NOT care what your religion was unless it practiced human sacrifice. Furthermore he should be glad you are not of the same faith b/c then you can each take off your holidays and there will be coverage for those who get sick year round no matter what their faith.

I'm sure it's done, but recruiting patients from a practice you leave is very frowned upon and bad form. It's been in every contract DW has ever had.

My oldest is almost 14 and never in that time have I run across a pediatric dentist who DID allow parents to go back.
We've been through a few in the past 12 years, and they/I really like the one we have now, but she doesn't allow parents in either.
