I have a friend..........

that recently had a son share with her that he is gay. She is looking for message boards for parents of adult gay children. Does anyone know of anyplace I could direct her to? A supportive positive kind of place.
I guess she has some issues that she needs to share with others in her shoes. And as I want her to be as supportive as possibe to her son I was hoping to help.

I'd say the best bet is to direct her to the PFLAG website. PFLAG stands for Parents and Friends of Lesbians And Gays. A quick search online shows that several local PFLAG chapters have online discussion forums. So send her over to the main PFLAG site at http://community.pflag.org/NETCOMMUNITY/Page.aspx?pid=194
and have her find the closest PFLAG organization to where she lives. They'll be able to give her more information.

I got that tag on a Grand Theft auto thread when I said I wouldn't let dh get it then I was SHAMED by my tag and fell to tag pressure and bought it for him!

It's hard for me to deal with her insecurities as I have been blessed to know some of the nicest and friendliest gay people. We have the "I won't judge you by who you sleep with if you don't judge me by who I do" attitude. And really we're all just people. What's not to love?

My daughter told us she was a gay a few years ago. I have never had a problem with the the gay community and grew up around many gay couples. I even had my 6th birthday at Oil Can Harry's, which was gay bar (closed during the day when I had the party) because the owner was one of my parents best friends.

But never the less it was difficult for the first couple of weeks as I came to terms with worrying about my daughter having more hardships in her life because of her sexual orientation. But she has a wonderful partner and is very happy and thats what I want so its been good.
