I think that an Esplanade is a gateway to parks, but I am not quite sure.

An Esplanade is an open walkway area, often an area along the water is an esplanade. The area in front of Disneyland would be considered an Esplanade, as in vmk.

The esplanade in vmk is the entrance in to the park of VMK.Now when you make a new character you start out in the esplanade as if you were about to enter the park.
