I have a 1BR. Can I pay cash to get to a 2BR since I am out of points?

I don't know if any of you have had to do this and on short notice as well. I had my reservation for a 1BR at OKW for about 4 months. Now my sister wants to go to WDW at the same time we do. She didn't know that we were going. It was just coincidence, because my kids and her kids have off the same time in different schools. I offered to let her come and stay with us instead of putting out $800 plus for a room at Pop Century and be jammed in there. We can fit her group just fine, but she said that if we can get a 2BR that would obviously make life easier. My problem is that I have no points available to move up and I can't call MS until Monday and we have to work fast to get her on the same flights as we are on. So ultimately, can I pay the difference for the upgrade to a 2BR if they have it available and if it is available, how much am I looking at?

We will be over the occupancy limit by one child if we can't get a 2BR but she is only 4 and can squeeze in somewhere to sleep, so please no posts on pointing that out to me. I doubt I am the first one that has done this.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, this can be done. You will have to change your reservation, and book as many nights with your points in the 2br and pay cash for the nights you can't cover. You can't just pay the difference, each night needs to be booked on either points OR cash. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure when you are going....prior to April 16 the per night rate for a 2-bedroom is $700 (plus 11% tax). After April 17 it drops to $575 per night (plus tax).

If available, the member discount is 25% off those prices. You will receive the same housekeeping as you do when staying on points.

I'm not sure whether there are other discounts available but you might want to look into those as well if you go the cash route.

As mentioned, it's either/or -- you can't combine cash and points for the same nights.

Just be careful. If there is a waiting list for the two bedroom, when you cancel your one bedroom, you will go to the bottom of the list.

You could also borrow points from your next year if you have them, or rent them and see if someone can transfer them into your account.

I think she said she doesn't have any points she can move up right now....So...

If you already have a 1 bdrm booked, can you pay cash for a studio and ask for them to be close? Would that work?

...OR....What about having someone transfer you some points? There are a lot of point available on the rent/trade board, and I have to think that it's going to be a lot cheaper than paying cash.

Without getting into the occupancy debate, it sounds like you would have at least 6 people in a 1 BR. That would likely not be a workable situation if that's the case. If you have any weekend days, pay cash for the weekends and save the points and that should give you more than enough to get the points days in a 2 BR and have points left over.
