I HATE Walmart! But what can I do??

I get home.... my son says "Mom did you get the pickles?" NO that was the thing on the receipt I could not figure out what it was..it was coded weird and didn't say PICKLES. He loves pickles and wanted them. SO other than getting my sons glasses next week..... this GIRL will not be shopping in WALMART AGAIN. EVER!!!

As soon as I started reading your post I thought, "UGHHHH Denise....why did you go there?" No more girlie!!!:rotfl:

Until you have to return something, then Target is much sadder! Target has one of the worst return policies out there! They won't even do an exchange without a receipt, and if you are outside of their 90 day return window, forget it. They won't do anything for you.

Why should they not have a return policy? Whats wrong with keeping a receipt? :confused3

It amazes me how mad some people can get. I am not trying to sell Walmart as the place to shop, but I don't think people realize certain things about Walmart or any large corporation. Items will be left behind...it is a fact of life. Whether it be the associates fault or the customers. I have checked out individuals that only have one bag and they have left it behind. Sure some blame can be on the associate but not entirely, they sometimes have to multi task. Walmart keeps a log book(at customer service) so if any merchandise is left behind it will state: the UPC number, how many of that item, and weight if required, the register number, and the date. You would be surprised at how accomodating Walmart is about this kind of stuff. Now if it is a big ticket item or electronic item-they could always refer to the video of that transaction. So I am pretty sure the person who left the pickles behind could call and explain hte situation and they would be able to get waht they needed. The fact they keep a log book means you could go by when you have a chance not immediately.

I spend more to shop better stores and won't set foot in a Walmart at all, so you can guess which option I'd suggest. I think it is worth spending more for 1) better service and 2) to support companies I like to have around over ones that I hope I'm never stuck with as my only option.

I have to be desperate before I go to Walmart. The one near me is in a part of town that, well, let's say it's overrun with unscrupulous people (there are constantly city police camped outside because of the amount of crime in the area). The employees in there constantly treat the customers badly, and I'm sure a lot of it stems from how the employees are treated. Every time I am in there the employees are complaining about how the managers treat them.

Could it simply be that Walmart? Sure. But has it turned me off from going into any Walmart? Yes. Is it unfair of me to apply this blanket to every Walmart? Yes. But, like most shoppers, I shop what's familiar to me. If I'm out of town, and I have a choice between a Walmart and a Target, I go to Target.

Could the same scenario I've described be applied to any business? Yes. So, while I won't say that I hate Walmart, I will say I hate my Walmart and that has caused me to distrust all Walmarts.

It was NOT just pickles missing ...it was several things including produce. They had NOTHING logged in apparently. The first CS rep said my stuff was there. The checker had already turned it in. It was NOT logged at all because the guy couldn't find it and the lady that actually helped me..said it was PUT BACK OUT into inventory. :confused3 Obviously it was bagged and SOMEONE's.

I never said they shouldn't have any return policy. What I don't like is them having such a strict return policy, that even if you have an item that has a Target ticket on it, they will not exchange it without a receipt. No wiggle room at all for a customer who losses a receipt. Even if they still have the same item on the shelf! While everyone is hating on Walmart and singing the praises of Target, keep in mind that Walmart has a much more lenient return policy. That is all I was pointing out. Target is far from perfect.

Ive never had an issue with Target and no receipts . I always pay by credit card. Easy peasy, apparently they can find it that way. I returned pants last week without a receipt .

After reading alot of your stories, I've decided I must be lucky. I have 2 Walmarts near me.
They are 5 miles away from my house in opposite directions. One was built as a SuperWalmart and the other is a remodeled one.

I've never encountered any problems at either. I only buy nonperishable and frozen goods from them as far as food goes plus non prescription stuff, cat food, dog food, and stuff like that.

I no longer buy electronic or video game stuff from them though. I got my son a supposedly new Xbox 360 for Christmas and it had someones login info on it! And I don't like waiting forever for help when are going to buy a video game from them. With a Gamestop right across the street, I don't need to get that kind of stuff at Walmart.

I shop early afternoon and the only time I've encountered long lines during the week is Friday afternoons so I avoid it then.

I've actually had more issues with the Target near me. Expired goods, rude cashiers, merchandise not in stock and the one time I tried to return a shirt with no receipt, the girl at CS acted like I'd stolen it even when I had her look it up in their system. (I'd paid with a Target card). Blech.

couple men walked in looking like they had just dug a ditch. They were wearing FILTHY, covered with mud overalls and you could see the sweat pouring off these guys--and it was February!
And that makes them bad people? You describe what could be my husband. A very hard working man who occasionally has to shop in his work clothes. I can't believe this would actually bother anyone. :confused3 I used to work at a local grcoery store. This older gentleman, who obviously was a farmer, would shop there once a week. You could smell him coming from 2 aisles over. He smelled like cow manure. But he was the nicest, sweetest man. As they say, you can't judge a book by it's cover.

:headache: Okay so today.... my son had his eyes checked and has to get glasses for reading at a distance at school. SO I decided since my dd and I get our contacts from Walmart that we would get his glasses from there. NOW I don't like Walmart...... said that in an earlier post on here. Have I shopped there, YES, off and on for years but RARELY.

HOWEVER...we went to one NOT near my house TODAY (HATE THAT ONE) but close to the eye doctor. We go, not crowded, pleasant experience picking out the glasses, ordering them and since it was NOT crowded and the store looked NEW and CLEAN I decided to pick up a few things from the grocery side. The funny thing...the whole time I was in there..I kept thinking of the WALMART thread on the Dis boards that I had commented on.....and I was kind of laughing at myself shopping in there but it was really a nice experience. At least I thought it was.

We get in line to check out..not too long a wait. There was a shift change and we got the new checker. She was nice, we chatted, she was handing bags to me and my son to put into the cart. I swiped my card, paid, exchanged a few more words with her. All was good. I DIDN'T check the spinning bag thingie to make sure all my stuff was off, but she was the one handing them off to me and my son so I guess it didn't occur to me to check. We load the stuff into my van..there were several bags and my son was putting some in and so was I. I didn't pay attention to what was there or NOT THERE.

I get home... my bananas, oranges, tangelos, and some of the Easter candy was not there. I kind of knew what was missing but figured it would be in bags at Walmart. I was leaving pretty much as soon as I got home to drive to pick our dd up from college, but I did call Walmart and ask about my stuff that was missing. I new my fruit was not there and I knew some of the Easter candy was not there. The customer service girl asked me for some information on my receipt and I gave it to her.... THEN she asked "Is it some oranges, bananas and Easter candy?" I said YES. She said okay it is here and will be in CS and bring my receipt. I was annoyed to know I had to make another trip, but at least they had it and it didn't go home with the customer behind me. OKAY since I was trying to get on the road soon I decided I better just call back and let them know that I would NOT be back for about 3 hours and I was NOT coming right away to pick the items up. I got a man this time... he asked if I had already spoken to someone about this "Yes I did". He said to bring in my receipt when I came in.

Exactly 3 hours later I have my dd drop me at the door...I run in with JUST MY RECEIPT and go to CS. The guy remembered talking to me, but he said IT WAS NOT THERE. I explained that the lady actually named the stuff in the bag.... NOPE not there. :confused3 Of course I ask WHY???? Blah blah blah. SO he tells ME TO GO AND RESHOP THE ITEMS AND BRING THEM BACK UP. SERIOUSLY????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I was NOT HAPPY at all. So I go and get the stuff, but of course my receipt is not specific for some stuff and because I didn't unload all of my items when I got home... I wasn't COMPLETELY SURE what was missing as far as the EASTER CANDY WENT. I had a good idea, but could not find a couple of items when I was looking. I go back.. and the GUYS IS GONEEEEEEE. SO another lady does it. IT TOOK FOREVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. My dd is outside in our van and my cell is in the van too so I couldn't call her to tell her what was taking so long. UGH I was in there FOREVER it seemed. I told CS lady that obviously MY STUFF was there earlier and how it got put back out in the store is BEYOND ME. I left some bottled water ONCE at Target and called when I realized it, it was in CS with my name written on the bag. I didn't rush back out to get it either. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

This lady..... had to scan the price, log each item in a book, then when I told her I could not find two things on the receipt, she basically told me to GO FIND THEM or there was nothing she could do. What amazed me was "I could have brought back STUFF to CS that I had at home already and gotten them again and they would have given them to me without paying. I even brought that to her attention. They had NO PROOF that I had NOT gotten my items when I was there in the first place. :rolleyes1 I told her their system is seriously FLAWED. I GAVE UP. I left there COMPLETELY ANNOYED vowing TO NEVER GO AGAIN.

EVER!!!
Personally, I think most of the issues you had are your own fault and not Walmart's.

Kycha:
Please point them out to me?!! :confused3 The only thing that was part my fault was not checking the bagging thing.... but I don't always do that ...the checkers at most stores do this for you. I also called them not once but twice and was ASSURED my bags were there.

Well....I have to say that I agree. You walked out with out the stuff....When did it become the cashier's responsibility to keep track of your stuff???

I will also agree that WM dropped the ball after you phoned them. Your purchases should have been held at CS and anything cold should have been listed and returned to the shelf. They could have grabbed those items for you when you came back.

I cashiered during high school, college and for about a year again two years ago. Cashiers are under enough pressure from store management without having to do everything for the customer as well. You got distracted.....well so can cashiers.

I firmly believe everyone should wait tables and cashier during their life. They might gain a little perspective..........

First of all I did wait tables in high school and I also worked retail in college. I was always taught that the customer is always right...OH WAIT...that was in the early and mid 80's when people CARED ABOUT THEIR JOB and how they treated customers.

The ball got dropped BY WALMART as far as I am concerned. I called, they said they had my stuff and even asked for my receipt information and assured me it was at CS. I even called back to let them know I could not come right away, once again, was told it would be there whenever I did show up. If I were a cashier I would try my best to make sure NO ONE's stuff was left behind. Yes I left without some stuff and that part I will take some of the blame for. However, she was handing stuff to me and my son and I didn't think to check the baggie thing. Then my son was helping me put the stuff in the van. SO NO I didn't go through every bag.... I was grabbing cases of water off the bottom of the cart. I knew we had not left any bags in the cart after placing them in our van.

Change what you can; accept what you can't. Personally, I love WalMart and absolutely CAN NOT STAND Target. I accept that Target isn't for me, and I just don't go there. In some areas, you don't have a choice, though, so you just have to decide if you can do anything about it - if not, accept it for what it is and don't stress it.

:thumbsup2 I HATE Target's prices!! Wal Mart is so much cheaper!!!

I left some bottled water ONCE at Target and called when I realized it, it was in CS with my name written on the bag. I didn't rush back out to get it either.

And there was a reason for that -- most Target stores have about 1/4 the foot traffic that Walmart has at any given time.

The reason? WM sells a lot of different things -- and Target? Well, you may be able to find a quilt, there (which is something Target is trying to overcome by expanding their own grocery offerings and selling less designer quilts).

As for your water, Target could afford to connect with you on a personal level where WM simply can't because of their mammoth store size.

My biggest annoyance with them are their security alarms at the front door. After hiking all over that football stadium finding something, then standing in the never ending line to pay for my stuff, you're seriously going to stop me and paw through my bags because your employee didn't do their job and correctly pass merchandise through their scanner so that it doesn't set off the alarm?

This happens to people pretty frequently at the WM I shop at. But it ticks me off.And I don't stop anymore when it goes off. I just keep walking. I don't run out, but I don't slow down either. I figure if they want to come out in the parking lot and frisk an old lady, over merchandise I bought and paid for, be my guest. Funny thing though, they never come after me. :thumbsup2
