I hate FastPass+

Maybe the OP didn't get any info. He says he has been to WDW before, but didn't know anything about fp+.

I wasn't talking about the OP, in terms of reading the info. I was talking about newbies... I guess there might be some who rock up at the gates and buy tickets on their first visit, but I would guess more first timers would pick them up in advance, in which case linking your tickets prompts info on FP+... Or at least it does when accessing MDE from the UK. :confused3

Many people loved the flexibility that FP- afforded them and don't like the idea of using a touring plan.

Yes, I know. In some threads they extoll the virtue of education and planning and in others they lament the need for education and planning.

You didn't pre-plan with FP-?

I subscribed to TP and optimized one of their plans to fit our goals. Worked great. What I didn't like about it (other than the obvious TSMM-like stuff) was walking ahead/away to pull FPs to stay on the schedule.

No I didn't. I have never used any optimized to plans or TGM or anything....we had a basic "let's head.to TL or frontierland first' (varied depending on trip), and went with the flow from there. We didn't do fp running, we didn't cross cross the park...I really don't get why that is so difficult to believe.

Not too hard to believe. I just haven't been there enough to know how to do it without plan.

It's not like I'm there multiple times a year every year...(yes, I realize I was last year, but as you can see in my signature, that was an anomaly). Prior to 2013, I hadn't been to WDW since 2007. :confused3. We picked a starting point each morning and just branched out from there...very organic, not very planned...just general knowledge that is easy to.find here

We go every year multiple times/year and this is how we tour. When the kids were smaller I did some FP "running" because they were all about the rides and I am a runner so the extra walking wasn't even remotely a problem for me. Now we just meander about the parks enjoying the rides, attractions and scenery (and people ::yes::).

Given the dates of your trips:

DLR: July '84 (first trip! :earsboy:), July '86 (family), April '88 (Easter), August 2004 (DCA for the first time!), March 2009,
April 2010 (F&W Festival!), April 2011

WDW: July '87 (first trip to WDW!), April '93 (Easter), April '95 (Contemporary), July 2006 (Honeymoon - GF!), December 2007 (SoG),
March 2013 (SoG, our princess' first trip! princess: ), October 2013 (SoG, F&W festival!), November 2014 (F&W adults only trip!)

I would believe it. Most of them appear to be off season when pre-planning and optimization wasn't necessary.

Some were, yes...march 2013 was during spring breaks (easter was much earlier last year), and our honeymoon in 2006 was the height of summer months. Both were definitely crowded vacations. One was just dh and I, for the other we had my entire family, so a party of 9 that we were with. So out of 4 wdw vacations I've taken since getting married, 2 were during busy seasons, 2 were off season. The 3 trips I took to wdw as a child were all spring break or summer, as my parents refused to take us out of school for vacations, so no low season there.

Our upcoming trip is off season, but like October 2013, crowds will be increased a bit for a rundisney event while we are there. December 2007 was by far the least crowded trip we have taken. My husband had just returned from deployment and wdw was a belated anniversary trip for ourselves.

In Magic Kingdom today, trying to get 4th fastpass. Line to get it at kiosk is > 30 Minutes long...largely defeating purpose. Disaster, and on a moderate crowd day no less. I will not be returning to see on a high crowd day. From now on, We'll take the kids to Universal and stay on property!

Strange as most other threads have reported a less than 5 minute wait at the kiosks. I'd try a different one or flag down a cm with an ipdad.

Was indeed < 5 mins this morning....I had tech probs with ap and had to stop in at 10a. BUT this afternoon a diff story. Once everyone burned thru all 3 fp+, they all got in line. I was in frontierland, having initially bypassed the fantasyland kiosk b/c line was ridiculous. And line was even more hideous for kiosk outside jungle cruise (a fellow line-stander went to ck while her companion saved her spot). Wasn't just me.....

MK sounds nuts today. Maybe everyone who got rained out yesterday is there today. Good luck.

And this is why I'm sticking with the following strategy for later this week (W-Sa in parks):

Rope drop in the morning with no fastpasses. Go back to hotel pool after lunch. Late afternoon/early evening fastpasses except on days when I know I'll be at World Showcase in the evening. Then, I'll do morning fastpasses...:thumbsup2

No reason to deal with the uncertainty of the whole kiosk situation and 4th/5th/6th fastpasses...

Another reason I loathe the new FP-

My DW and I were in the MK the other night and had 3 sets of FPs. We wanted to change one from HM to JC. Fine...pull up the app on the phone as we're walking about (takes a few min to load and get to the point you need to be...what fun!). I make the selection to change and get an error that it could not be completed. Went back a page and tried the process again. Same error. Ugh...fine...so be it, we'll keep HM.

Go to HM and touch our "Magic" Bands to the readers and they turn blue, not green. CM says our FPs are for JC (and the timeframe for which I had been trying to get them had already passed). I told her I tried to change it on the app but it didn't complete and the app still showed HM as a FP option in my list. No go...told us to go to a FP- kiosk. Yeah...I'm gonna waste 10-15min in a line to straighten that out?

Ugh...worst ROI $ Disney's ever spent, imo.

Come back with a report on their express pass system. I've got a feeling that unlimited front-of-line, no reservations, no kiosks to line up at, no planning necessary, last minute schedule changes don't matter.....and it is included in your Universal resort room stay...just might, might be hugely better than the FP+ system which requires you to wear a tracking device, plan way ahead, use a phone app, limit you on how many, require you to wait at least an hour for the next one, and somehow increased the wait time for previous walk-on rides.

Just saying...
