I had to laugh at Kara's camping story she wrote for school

I just finished proofing it for her - I am sure hoping she isn't planning on doing this for real during our next GS camping trip

LOST AND FOUND
by
Kara Jo Hellwig

One day our Girl Scout troop decided to go camping at Camp Whippoorwill. Everybody got into the cars or vans, we had four cars, and we drove off. Arrived at Camp Whippoorwill about an hour later. When we arrived, Mrs. Vonderbrink went in The Camp Leader Building and found out where our campsite was. We got to our camp site (Evergreen) and picked out our tents. Courtney, Loren and I got a tent together and made up our cots with sleeping bags. The cots had real comfy springs so we decided we didn’t need the mattresses and stacked them neatly in the corner. We then helped the others set up and got the cars unloaded and the food safely stored away. Then Mrs. Vonderbrink called us to the cook hut. Mrs. Vonderbrink said, “We are going on a hike in the woods”.

“O K”, everybody said together, and we set off down the trail. One the way, we saw a challenge course and completed that. Continuing the hike, Courtney, Loren and I
spotted a family of deer. All three of us trailed after the deer, but soon we lost them in the woods. Oh no, it is now dark and we didn’t know where we were! We decided that we were lost. So following the rule when you are lost, you sit down and stay put.

We first made ourselves comfortable on the ground with leaves to sit on. I had an emergency tent in my backpack, so we put that up. Then collected rocks to make a fire ring. Next, we gathered wood for a fire, and Courtney was able to start a fire by rubbing two sticks together. Loren got out her flashlight and food. She had ham and water. It is really dark now and we still haven’t been found. Decided to crawl into the tent after
putting the fire out.

Then it was morning, and had some pop tarts and water for breakfast. We were waiting and waiting for somebody to find us. We almost gave up hope when we heard some voices. We shouted and we were found! As we packed up the emergency tent, we told about our adventure. Then walked back to camp and everybody was glad to see us. We all had a big lunch. Sunday, we packed up and headed home. After we got home we all unpacked and took a nap in our own beds. Courtney, Loren and I learned a good lesson; don’t wander off by yourselves, even to follow a family of deer.

<font color=navy>What a talent for storytelling!!!

I think Kara 'learned her lesson' and won't be following any family of deer. :) But, if she does, at least you know she & her friends will be well prepared. :p ;)

LOL! Mary Jo, I was just going to same the same exact thing! :p

Great story, great stash of stuff! :p

<font color=navy>I just realized...

Seems like creative exploring must run in the family. ;) :teeth:

That's a great story. Kara did a wonderful job.

Creative exploring does seem to run in the family doesn't it;)

Great job on the story - sounds like you've taught the Girl Scouts to really "be prepared". Next time we get together, I'll teach her a couple of other ways to start a fire - they're more reliable than the "two sticks".
