This all started back in January. I had been having some chest discomfort (like twinges), and a couple episodes of extreme and sudden fatigue/weakness. (Like you just have to sit, or you will fall down!) Well, I had an EKG and thallium stress test done then. They were normal, except for my blood pressure not going back down like it should after the stress test. Then in March, I STILL just didn't feel right. No more twinges, or fatigue/weakness attacks. I just felt like there was a rock in my chest and just didn't feel "right". So, I had an echocardiogram done then to look for mitral valve prolapse. I was told I didn't have prolapse, just some mild regurgitation and mild redundancy (whatever that means!). But, my blood pressure was still high, so I was put on medicine. Eventually, I started feeling okay, and being the good nurse/patient I am:p , took myself off of the blood pressure medicine. Well then in October, I started working for a new doctor. One day he was checking me for a sore throat and was listening to my heart/lungs, also. He said he heard a "click" in my chest, and asked if I had ever been told I had mitral valve prolapse!! He looked at the results of my last echo and decided I should have it repeated. He also put me back on blood pressure medicine. YUCK So, today I had the echo done, and the guy doing it told me (and showed me on the screen) that I do have mitral regurgitation, as well as mitral prolapse, and tricuspid regurgitation. He said the tricuspid regurgitation gets worse if your blood pressure goes up, or if you get stressed, and then you can get short of breath. Well, here I always thought I got short of breath easy because of being overweight!! He also asked if I have asthma? I don't, but he said something about the way my liver showed through my lungs, or something? Anybody know what that means? I don't go back to work until Wednesday, so my doctor will tell me then what to do. My mother was just recently diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse and regurgitation, and the technician told me it can be hereditary. He also told me that I should start taking an aspirin every day. That's another thing I WAS doing after being told to in March by the other doctor, but had stopped! I guess I should start listening to the doctors, and stop trying to treat myself!

Thanks for listening, if anyone has read this far!! It's just hard with Kevin away, there's nobody to come home and tell my results to!!:)

Hugs for you. At least now you know what it is. Remember to take antibiotics before any dental work, etc. And obey your doctor! ;)

Oh CDoobee, My mom has that too but I never knew it was hereditary. I will keep that in mind. Hers is so bad I can hear it gurgling when I listen to her heart but her doctor has never done anything about it. She is always having chest pains too. You would think she would listen to me since I am a nurse and get another opinion but she won't.

Please listen to your doctor and take care of yourself. I intend to see you at a lot more Dis-cons in the future.

:( Debbie, I'm so, so sorry. :( I've never heard of these things, but then I don't remember these medical terms very well either, so if I had, I probably don't remember. :rolleyes:

I'm glad you know what it is and that you can spend more effort and time on 'treating' it. {{{hugs}}} to you Debbie. You can e-mail me any ole time you know? ;)

Yikes take care of yourself.....listen to your doctor and do the right things...Hope things get better!

Sounds very scary to me..... But maybe that's because I don't understand all these medical terms. As soon as I get back to work (not until Thursday!) I will have to check the medical dictionary for the Dutch translation.

At least you know what it is now.
Please listen to the doctors and take care of yourself!!

<font face="comic sans ms"> Debbie, I think that's a very important statement you made there. I just wanted to isolate it so you could see it and remember it. I want you to be healthy. I hope that you feel better soon. :D

We're here for you right now. Feel free to PM or e-mail me if you want, Sweetie.

Hugs,
Dayna

Hugs to you Debbie, I am so glad you found out what it was.. Good for you.... you know what though, what you wrote sounded very familiar.. omg.. you described basically what I have been having..but my echo showed nothing.. at least at the Mickey Mouse Hospital in Celebration, it did not.. but shortness of breath, heavy block sitting in the middle of my chest and twinges(except for the Polynesian morning at Mass), and generally tired, I just said to Tom last week, do you think I have asthma, .. and I have to wait until January 30 for this appointment with this special cardiologist at Mass General Hospital..but at least I will have this in the back of my mind and I will not stop till I have some answers.. I have low to normal blood pressure though.

Please take care of yourself.. I am taking an aspirin a day myself.. and have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.. I am thinking of you..

Debbie, My home has a mitral valve prolapse. She always has to take antibiotics before she sees the dentist, but she has no other major problems. I was tested when I was 10 or 12. I have a VERY slight prolapse, but i do not need meds. Every so often the doctor can hear it if I am laying the right way.

Good luck and take care of yourself. I know we sometimes get busy and think of everyone BUT ourselves. Please take good care of yourself. IF you don', no one else can.

Happy Holidays!

I'm not good with medical terms but want to join everyone and tell you to listen to the doctors. Hopefully they've found the problems and it will get better from now on.

I'm glad that you found a doctor who figured it out. You take care of yourself and do what the doctor tells you to do. {{{HUGS}}}

CDoobee... I have MVP too. About a year ago I went through the same symptoms and MANY tests to figure out what was going on. It is pretty scarey when you don't know what is wrong. The good news is... once diagnosed there are some "maintenance" meds that can help relieve the occassional discomfort.

Hugs to you. {{{{{CDoobee}}}}}

Debbie, {{{HUGS}}} to you and lots of pixie dust your way! Take care of yourself, girl!

Debbie, please keep taking the meds your doctor tells you to take. I know, I hate to take any meds, too, but what's even worse than taking them is what might happen to you if you don't keep taking them!

I know it must be hard for you with Kevin away right now, but we're here for you. Please feel free to email or PM me if you ever need to talk.

{{{{HUGS}}}} to you & your family.

Another mild MVP here (I thought Barry Bonds won that this year :rolleyes: ) I take an aspirin a day, along with the antib's before dental. A {hug} for you Debbie, stick with the meds, you'll do fine.
