This all started back in January. I had been having some chest discomfort (like twinges), and a couple episodes of extreme and sudden fatigue/weakness. (Like you just have to sit, or you will fall down!) Well, I had an EKG and thallium stress test done then. They were normal, except for my blood pressure not going back down like it should after the stress test. Then in March, I STILL just didn't feel right. No more twinges, or fatigue/weakness attacks. I just felt like there was a rock in my chest and just didn't feel "right". So, I had an echocardiogram done then to look for mitral valve prolapse. I was told I didn't have prolapse, just some mild regurgitation and mild redundancy (whatever that means!). But, my blood pressure was still high, so I was put on medicine. Eventually, I started feeling okay, and being the good nurse/patient I am
, took myself off of the blood pressure medicine. Well then in October, I started working for a new doctor. One day he was checking me for a sore throat and was listening to my heart/lungs, also. He said he heard a "click" in my chest, and asked if I had ever been told I had mitral valve prolapse!! He looked at the results of my last echo and decided I should have it repeated. He also put me back on blood pressure medicine. YUCK So, today I had the echo done, and the guy doing it told me (and showed me on the screen) that I do have mitral regurgitation, as well as mitral prolapse, and tricuspid regurgitation. He said the tricuspid regurgitation gets worse if your blood pressure goes up, or if you get stressed, and then you can get short of breath. Well, here I always thought I got short of breath easy because of being overweight!! He also asked if I have asthma? I don't, but he said something about the way my liver showed through my lungs, or something? Anybody know what that means? I don't go back to work until Wednesday, so my doctor will tell me then what to do. My mother was just recently diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse and regurgitation, and the technician told me it can be hereditary. He also told me that I should start taking an aspirin every day. That's another thing I WAS doing after being told to in March by the other doctor, but had stopped! I guess I should start listening to the doctors, and stop trying to treat myself!
Thanks for listening, if anyone has read this far!! It's just hard with Kevin away, there's nobody to come home and tell my results to!!
