My family lives 2 hours away . I have them down as emergency contacts but they arent local . They want emergency contacts who atleast lives in the same state. Im really bothered by the fact that besides thier father I have no other support . He isn't even around. We havent seen him in a year. My family wants me to move back to our hometown so ill have support and help raising the kids but for right now Im staying put where I am. If I lived back in my hometown there is no way my kids would've gone to a police station . I'd have atleast 10 local contacts.

Your poor kids.

So today was a day off from work for you?

I think your family would be a great help if you can move. It sounds like you would have a lot more support.

Could you have carbon monoxide poisoning? Yes or no, I think you need to move home.

I was wondering about that as well. If you don't have a monitor it might be worth checking into just in case. If you are becoming ill you might have been extra tired as well..but something I would go to my Dr about to be sure (you could even have sleep apnea unknown to you and you are not getting healthy restful sleep and it caught up with you..either way a check up is in order).

I wouldn't be upset or mad at anyone..sounds like they did what you knew they would do as you stated if a parent is not present the child is taken to the police precinct and it makes complete sense they would go to one at the end of the route (and 2 kids in 2 different schools would likely result in 2 different routes and thus 2 different precincts).

There is apparently a procedure they are required to follow thus they aren't getting out and knocking on doors because they are obligated to do something else and we don't know that it might be a job loss for them if they don't follow known protocol. It doesn't matter how it works for anyone else..you know/knew that is what they did so it is know procedure where you live.

The police also have no way of knowing you personally or knowing how completely unusual this is for you so it isn't bad that they were questioning you intensely..I would be disappointed if they didn't make some inquiries and document it..for all they know you just moved to the area and this is a regular thing.

I know you are scared and upset by what happened but pointing fingers and being mad at those that were involved (bus drivers/police) doesn't help things at all..they were all just doing their jobs, following procedure and trying to do right for your kids.

Hope all is well with you and you get into your Dr ASAP to talk things over.

I took a taxi and picked my kids up..

Just noticed this
You are a single Mom with no people to list as contacts in a city of strangers, and you dont have a car? (or job it seems?)
:confused3

I once rode the wrong bus as a first grader-my bus driver was taking another bus driver's route. I didnt even know my adress-at the end of the run he asked me where i lived and i described the little store at the corner where the bus stop was. He parked the bus, got me in his car and drove me to my bus stop-and i walked the 3 houses down to my house. I am havinh a hard time believing the police didnt try to bring your kids to your house.

No comment on the job, but she has said that she lives in NYC. None of my family or friends who live in NYC (Manhattan) have cars.

Wow....

Don't know what to say that won't sound harsh... My first thought it perhaps drugs, illegal or semi-legal might be involved.

I did happen to read the OP's prior posts because I was truly puzzled by this one.

I am hoping and praying the OP is just a troll and not serious. And if she is serious, it was probably fortunate that this happened so now there is a record in the system and the CPS will hopefully be keeping close tabs on this family.

:sad2:

Never mind- I thought she was off for Veteran's Day, but then I realized that this happened on Thursday.

My DH's grandparents were NYC natives and neither even knew how to drive a car when they passed in their 80s. I dont' believe my ILs learned until they moved to NJ after they got married in their 20s. With things being within walking distance, public transit and cabs many don't own a car or drive at all.

Can't speak to the job thing though..she didn't say she didn't work at all simply that she napped that day..people do get days off ;)

It also sounds to me like there is an established procedure where she lives for this to happen if kids are not picked up and there were 20 messages for her regarding her kids that she didn't get until she woke up.

She also said that she normally picks one child up at 1:45pm and the other at 4:00pm (after getting them on the bus that morning). And that she normally naps two hours at most - most people working do not nap at all during the day.

this sounds like me when I had mono. And I know it's already going around. I'd have a quick test for mono....

Hershey, I just wanted to say this is my biggest nightmare. I know you must be so upset. It sounds like everything was done properly--the kids were safe, at least. I hope you can get to the bottom of it soon.

I worked night shift for about 25 years and my greatest fear was that I woudln't hear the phone or get up in time to get the Christian off the bus. But even with all that, i don't think I ever just lay down and slept an entire day away. Something's not right! I hope you can get it all figured out when you see your doctor. :flower3:

Honestly, this sounds fishy to me but I'll bite.

You were suppose to pick your youngest up at 1:45 but didn't wake up until 7:15pm. By the time you figured out what was going on, called all the police stations to find your children, hailed a cab, and arrived at the police station (two different ones) I am assuming it was at least 8pm and likely later. I honestly find it hard to believe that the NYC police would keep a kid sitting there for over 6 hours without calling social services. We aren't talking about Mayberry where Barney has all day to entertain a child.

If this truly happened to you, you need to get to a doctor. Between the "napping" for 9 hours and comparing it to death and a coma, you need to seek some help.

No matter how sick I've been I've never napped more than a couple of hours. my kids are my life. OP, please see a doctor. You might have a serious condition that could be treated.

OP, I'm very sorry about what happened & I'm glad your kids are ok.

I think you should reconsider your emergencies contacts, maybe ask a mom of your DSs classmates or neighbor if you could put their names down at school in the event of something happening.

OP, this sounds like a horrifying experience! I have had dreams of something like that happening. I really think you need to contact your Dr. I hope your kids are okay and not too traumatized.

I find it a little fishy too. I think the OP said that it's the rule that they take the kids to the police, but I've lived in NY all my life, and I've never heard that.

OP, if this is true, I'll add my "go to the doctor ASAP" to the list. A long nap like that isn't normal.

 How terrifying! OP, I actually have tears in my eyes after reading your post. I'm sorry that some posters are being harsh. Accidents happen, people oversleep. I just hope you're not too hard on yourself. I have nightmares about oversleeping for important things, I can't imagine how scary that must have been.
