Well I just got off the phone with my interviewer who informed me that "due to the web interview information gathered, that at this time I can not be considered as a candidate for the Disney College Program" and that is pretty much all she could say.

I guess the answers that I put on the web interview were not up Disney standards or something. I felt like I answered positively to almost all of them, but at the same time I didn't want to lie so I don't know...

She said I would be more than welcome to reapply in 6 months but I am not sure I even want to now. What really hurts is that I got so jazzed up over it that the letdown is even greater than it would have been had I not been so excited about it.

I guess this will sorta be a goodbye for now as well. Thanks for everything and maybe I will see some of you in around in 5-6 months if I decide to re-apply. I feel like I have gotten to know some of you pretty well in just the past few months so its a little sad to say goodbye but I guess its what I have to do. I will probably lurk a bit and may post every now and then.

Good luck with all of your applications and acceptance letters and maybe we will meet up again in the future.

Until then,
-Dean

What in the world could you have possible done for them to say that? From what I've noticed pretty much everyone who applies this early gets in unless they killed someone.

So sorry to hear that! I too am puzzled as to what went wrong.

Well...hopefully see you there for Fall '09!

When you apply for the CP at the DLR part of the application process involves taking an online "interview" as they call it which is conducted by the Gallup Group. It is basically a way for them to profile you without actually calling it that, then based on the results of the interview they are able to tell whether you would be a good match. I only learned about this a few hours ago after what she told me in the phone interview I looked it up online. Apparently the company is able to set what their "desired employee" is based on factors that they choose, so I could see how somebody could be turned down simply because they do not meet the stereotype that Disney is after. I figured answering the questions in a positive, but truthful manner would be my best bet - I guess I am not what they are looking for.

Then again, maybe the system is accurate and I just saved myself a lot of pain, trouble and unhappiness in the long run. Not sure I will ever know the answer to that question, but one thing I do find odd is that WDW does not conduct this portion of the application process.

Anyways, thought I would give a little more info as it might have been confusing.

I hate to be kind of a downer but I figured I'd give a little insight as to how these "online" interviews work. They ask statements and you have a number based rating with 1 usually being strongly disagree and 5 being strongly agree, alot of the questions are rephrased with double negatives or just reworded so they either become true statements or they are trying to gauge whether you answer the same statement with the same consistent answer. A lot of people feel these types of interviews are unfair but a lot of companies use them to pre screen employees unfortunately. I wish you luck in all your future endeavors Dean, and if you decide to reapply I hope everything falls into place for you next time.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. During bad times, I always tell myself that everything happens for a reason. When I look back months or years later, it is always true. There will be other opportunities that do pan out for you and you will realize that those things would never have had happened if things turned out opposite.

I'm really sorry to hear that. When they called you for your phone interview, they didn't even conduct it? WOW, that sucks after all that stuff you went throught to even submit your application (I read it on the other board). I feel really bad for you. I'm sorry. :(

but one thing I do find odd is that WDW does not conduct this portion of the application process.

as much as they try to make the programs at each location (DLR and WDW) look like they are exactly the same, they aren't. when you look at the details, there are a ton of differences and frankly, I think that this is totally misleading.

this is a total guess, but Disneyland may as a whole just have a different set of things that they are looking for in their cast members. I'm not just talking what they look for in their CPs, it could be just what they look for in everyone.

you could look at your situation this way, though. you may not be Disneyland is looking for based on their little impersonal profile thingy, but you may be what Disney World is.

Could you give some insight into the types of questions that they ask.....my daughter is only 13 but is very interested in working at Disney. I figure the College Program is a great place for her to start so I'm trying to learn all I can about the program, how to get in, etc, so that when her time comes in a few years we'll have some idea of what we're doing. I know it will likely change over the course of the next 4 or 5 years, but if we were to start learning about it now and watch it progress, I think that could be beneficial in many ways too. The old "knowledge is power" philosophy, lol.

The questions asked range from personal questions (why do you want to do the CP?) to questions about the roles you picked. Examples are: attractions (What would you do if a kid wanted to ride Space Mountain, but was too short?), merchandise (What would you do if a guest wanted an item, but the shop was out?), and so on.

We just spoke w/ a CM on friday and he said that Disney is on a hiring freeze. I'm not sure if the CP is linked to that freeze or not...but if it is, then it's not you.

Cps are not linked to the hiring freeze. It is only for full time cast members.

The app for DLR and WDW are quite diff. I applied online to DLR under a fake name, just in case it booted me at the beginning. I then got an e-mail saying that I wasn't what they were looking for. I'm glad I used a fake name because if not, I wouldn't have been able to apply for WDW this season.

But I applied for WDW for spring. Granted, I haven't heard back yet, but I at least got to be interviewed, and I think it went well. Hopefully I got accepted!

What was the DL application like?

What was the DL application like?

I just took it for fun and wow was it different.
The first section you have 50 seconds to answer a question on how you would react to certain situations. There are probably about 15 of these questions. The second section is just a TON of "how strongly do you agree" statements. A lot of them are really the same question just worded differently.
