State of CT schools are shutting down in pretty rapid succession today... expect all will be within days... sorry for all with Disney trips being impacted... hope that the abundance of caution helps out for the greater good...

My state, Georgia, just shut down all the state universities and colleges. And some public school systems here are already closed due to employees with the virus.

I was a little surprised to see WDW follow DL/DCA so quickly, but the PR nightmare of someone getting COVID-19 "from" DisneyWorld was probably too much.

It says "until the end of March". We'll have to see. I don't think 2 weeks is going to do much to curtail this continuing to spread.

I have reservations for April 17-21... That's 5 weeks from tomorrow. Probably still not enough time to see this start to wane, but I'm not cancelling until Disney extends the closure.

Sadly my reservation is from 3/15 to 3/26. I’ve been planning this trip since last March. I don’t like the idea of spreading the virus, but this better be real. Having the stock market crashing on top of everything else is crazy too. Has the whole world gone mad??

We are schedules from March 29 - April 4th ...... so I guess I have to call to see how I to handle it since our entire trip is not during the park closing dates.

Hate it for those affected by this.

Its affecting everyone. Gulf State Park had no openings all summer. I checked today and there are openings all over. I grabbed a week in July in site 62.

I'm booked for Disney in June, hopefully this will be settled back down by then.

The release said Disney Springs and resorts at WDW and DLP are staying open. I suspect that is temporary. Without the parks, I doubt the resorts will have much business.

What I'm hearing is that the Parks are closing, but the hotels (and I assume FW) will remain open. I wonder for how long, at least for the hotels.

Maybe they'll keep the Fort open, after all (most) campers are 'self-contained' and it would be pretty easy to practice 'social distancing' since the number 1 cardinal rule of camping is "Thou shalt not enter another camper's campsite".

Welp, our reservation is for May 4 and I'm adopting a "wait and see" attitude, so won't cancel until the last moment possible. For us, our vacation time is non-reschedulable. It's then or never until 2021--so if the Fort stays open, at least we could have some down time just relaxing. Otherwise, it'll be a staycation for us :(

yes. yes they have.

I have a trip to Norway starting May 14th for their Independence Day and my cousin's 80th Birthday, so I hope it settles by then so we don't have to cancel.
no one in our county has gotten it so our schools are not closed, but that could change rapidly.

I just grabbed a GSP for Easter week. Good site close to pavilion and tennis courts

"for the greater good"

Ok. it is what it is and I am not a physician. But I believe we have overblown this just a smidgen. I have not seen this much panic since 9/11 when I was an Emergency Management Coordinator. It is not the only contagion out there and stopping life for all of them, some of which are more serious, and easier to contract is not realistic.

Ok off my soapbox. Sorry to all who have had vacations affected, we know what that is like, with the hurricane in 2017 affecting ours. So I know first hand about the uncertainty that goes with this. As a member of the 501st, we have had numerous engagements cancelled and rescheduled.
We will see what next week brings, one day at a time. In the mean time, I am going to 3D print a big Star Wars blaster.

DW just went to a grocery store, and shelves were bare, no veggies, not even a salt and pepper set. The media has created a total and ridiculous PANIC. This is even worse than when they are predicting a blizzard for us.
And now drive thru testing....I mean I can not believe all the healthcare professionals think people should be diagnosing themselves. People should still be seeing a doctor. And for the love of man, quit with all this presumed positive stuff to inflate numbers. UGH.
Ok, I am done venting....

It's alright Chris.

I agree about overblown and panic.

As an emergency department provider for 20 years the last time I saw something this bad in my area is when Hurricane Katrina hit here. However, it was local. Not global.

The part about diagnosing themselves. There is no way for health care team to treat the mass panic masses. NO WAY. This is where the closings of large gatherings will help. It wont stop the spread, but will slow it down. This will allow more time for health care to try and gather resources.

The vast majority of folks will have cold symptoms, low grade fever, and that's it. Essentially cold symptoms. They don't go to doctor for that usually. Why go for this? Now, there are distinct individuals with underlying health conditions that put them at greater risk. They are the ones the healthcare team needs to be able to focus on. They cant if everyone goes to the doctor.

My gut instinct is seasonal flu will still beat it when all is said and done. However, we'll have to wait and see.

At least social isolation equals potential more family time.

Well, let's keep it on subject.

I'll reinforce what Michael said above. There is a greater than 99% chance you will survive COVID-19.

I have been getting daily messages from my doctors office about COVID-19. Below is the message from yesterday encouraging people, even if sick, to STAY HOME. In case you miss it, I highlighted the key message(s). Underlined in red is the only time it says go to the hospital.

People STOP PANICING if there was a reason to Panic I would have told you. As I haven't told you to it is time you all stop. No one needs 5 tractor trailers of TP for each person in the household.
Old Tiggerdad is 100 pct. correct the vast majority of people exposed to and that contract this virus will experience symptoms akin to the common cold or a minor case of the flu. Dr Fauscie one of the experts on the TASK FORCE has said a number of times that 80% of those who become infected will spontaneously get better without intervention.
So from this point forward. Unless and until you know at least 25 people that have contracted and died from this disease stop worrying. There is to be no panicing until such time as people start to spontaneously die on the street the spontaneously reanimate and begin to randomly attack others and eat their brains There is to be NO MORE PANIC

So let me see if I have this right, I should stay home ???

If sick stay home to avoid passing on to others no matter what the cause is , common cold, Flu, Corona Virus, Plague, whatever. Seek appropriate medical treatment and follow your Dr. orders

I hope this is the ONE LESSON we all take away from this experience and continue to accomplish...improved personal hygiene practices. When this is finally over, let's continue frequent hand washing, covering nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, sanitizing things you touch. If you or family member are sick...STAY HOME. Do not go to work. Do not send sick kids to school. I know I can improve on that.

Well DW is working from home for the next two weeks, and I was told late today that I am off for the next two weeks. Hard to remotely operate a backhoe. So we will settle in, drive the dog and each other insane and at the end of this be ready to go back to work.
