I got yelled at!

I have taken photos on many rides with my camera in the "no flash" mode and they generally turn out just fine. My camera has a setting that helps it to stay in focus if you are shaking a little - that´s what I use on my camera with the no flash setting.
It is very annoying (even on rides like Peter Pan) to have a flash go ahead or behind you every time you get to a new scene. And the flash doesn´t really work that far out anyway, so using it doesn´t hlep the picture turn out all that much.

We were on Dinosaur once with someone who was using a light for her pictures. Each time she turned to something, we got to see the framework of the dinosaur that is usually hidden by the darkness.

As long as you had a great time; I wouldnt worry about it!!:goodvibes

Thanks, I really did feel bad... and I was startled that she didn't soften even after I said I was sorry.

It is written in quite a few places around DW and also announced on some rides, but you are not supposed to take flash photography anywhere in rides or shows. It is irritating and annoying to everyone else there to enjoy the ride. Even when it is not specifically announced, a little common sense should let everyone know it would irritate and be distracting to others trying to enjoy the ride/show.

Afterwards, i checked on the little guide map they give you, and around the ride area..but I didn't find anything. I guess I'm hoping to understand why it's specifically announced on some rides and not others??? Anyone know?

I think it depends on when a recording for a ride was made and also if the CM remembers to announce it.
Don't stress, anyone can make a mistake - don't let it ruin a great trip. There are others though who continually run their flashes all thorugh rides where it was specifically announced - especially POTC. They are just being rude. My favorites are the ones that turn around to take the picture and let the flash go off directly in your face.

It's funny because most of the photos I took were of my DD, close up...she could have been anywhere!:lmao: Anyhow, I'm pretty confident that my picture taking didn'y disturb anyone else.

Thanks everyone:thumbsup2

I can't tell you how many people I saw taking photos in IASWA and POTC on my last trip. Flash after flash after flash. No one said a thing to them.

It's not so annoying in IASWA because it's not dark in there -- as long as they aren't flashing in your face.

WOW, I always take pics on Peter Pan, its my DS favorite ride! Of course, they never come...:confused3

How do you all feel about flash photos when the ride is broken down or stalled for a few minutes?

I know we took photos when we were evacuated from Splash Mountain last year.
I also took one in HM one time when we were broken down for about 10 minutes.

Would you all have been screaming Hey No flash at me?:confused3 :wave2:

I would not assume that for one second. There is no flash photography allowed on ANY indoor ride at Disney or any Show.
and it annoys me if someone three cars away does it.
As for the woman not softening when you said you were sorry, well most people when confronted say they are sorry, doesn't usually mean much except that they are sorry they were caught or taken to task for it. I am not saying that was your case but I see her point. It is not like an accident where you appologise you didn't accidently fire off the camera.

As to your question about has anyone else been yelled at, Yes people yell at others both guests and CMs every day somewhere in DW.

The pictures of DD were outside and around Disney...so unless that's forbidden too, I think I was ok. :thumbsup2

I'm sorry if I seem dumb, but why no pictures. We snapped loads of flash photographs, I didn't know we weren't supposed to, never heard anyone say not to and never got told off either. We took loads in Small World and the Donald ride in Epcot as our special needs son loved those rides and we wanted him to have something to remember them by.

Flash photographs on any ride would diminish the experience for the other riders (it's so distracting!), so please don't take them! [Remember, you can probably buy postcards that have much better quality photos of the rides than you'd be able to take, anyways.] Thank you for letting us offer our feedback.

(I've been on dark rides like Haunted Mansion when people have taken flash photos all the way through! Talk about ruining other people's experience - plus, how good would their photos have been, anyways, on such a dark ride? Even on well-lit rides, it's pretty distracting.)

It used to be accepted (and even encouraged) to take flash pics at FOLK in AK. Is that not the case anymore? And I've never seen or heard that you can't take them on ANY ride--what about something like the TTA in MK? I'm in the same camp with the OP--if they SAY no flash photos, I don't take them. If they don't say, I assume it's okay. That doesn't mean I take them on every ride, I just don't get bent out of shape if others do.

:scared1:

I just returned from Disney, and I guess I had a brain fart.
Scenerio: last ride of the night, Halloween MNSSHP, Peter Pan after a 5 minute wait.
I snapped some pictures.
Now, when riding, HM, POTC and several other rides, I heard the announcement: No flash photography please....and so I never took pictures on those rides. But since there was no such announcement here I thought it was ok.
Stepping off the ride, a woman proceeded to tell me pictures aren't allowed, and even when I explained my confusion..she was still really nasty.
It was an awful way to end the evening, especially since I was genuine in my apology.
No flames please...of course I read the boards and I should have known better..but I guess I just wasn't thinking.
Anyone else ever get yelled at?

She probably wasn't having a good time and was tired. Shrug it off you will never see the lady again and next time just remember to turn off the flash. Hope you had a great trip otherwise.

I definitely agree that postcards, if you can find them, are much better quality photos than you can take youself on a ride (with or without a flash). In my experience, my pictures came out better without a flash. I know this because I inadvertently forgot to turn off my flash on my first shot I think what a lot of people don't understand is just how limited the range of the flash is on most cameras. Bottom line, the flash doesn't help, it just diminishes the experience for other riders, plus the person taking the photo is missing something.

I'm wondering if the OP of this thread wasn't who yelled at you.. :)

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1622043

Just kidding of course.. but ironic that thread started just last week.

I saw that thread... it was closed before I could post to it. Honestly, didn't read it all because it looked heated and I still felt bad for blundering.

That said...How are you supposed to know? I understand it interferes with others enjoyment and I won't do it again..but if you've never been to WDW before..how would you know it's frowned upon? Disney rides aren't like other amusement park rides..so the idea that your taking a flash picture is rude may not occur to you. Announcements on some rides and not others suggest (by default) that it's ok on rides without announcement. Except for this board, I couldn't find Disney stating it's not allowed anywhere..I looked, too!
After the lady yelled at me, I looked to see if it was policy or just politeness...it wasn't posted by the ride and it wasn't in the guide map! So what is it? Policy or Consideration for Others?

I agree with you. Unless it is posted or announced I don't know how the average visitor would know not to take a flash photograph. Let's face it, not everyone reads on Disboards and goes to Disney. I think, she was a bit rude. It's not like she could tell you during the ride to stop taking pictures. If it bother me so much I would have told Disney and had them deal with it.

But as everyone says above Flash photography doesn't work on dark rides. Basically, a flash will eluminate up to 2 to 3 feet in front of of you. If you really want a better picture you should turn the flash off. It's like when you take a flash picture in a theater. You'll just light up the heads sitting in the seats in front of you instead of the stage. For dark pictures you want to capture the stage while the surrounding area is dark.

I never knew that you weren't supposed to take pics on some of the rides until I started reading it here. :confused3 I just assumed that where it didn't have an announcment, it was OK. :scared: I've pretty much stopped flash photos on rides except the ones where it clearly isn't going to be creating a problem for anyone. I've never seen where it prohibits it on some rides, but then again, I've never really gone out of my way to ask either. To say it isn't allowed on ANY rides is not only inaccurate, but really pushing the boundary of just trying to find something to complain about.
