I got our home loan modified!!

Last year, we were not behind, but I totally forgot to make a payment and they modified our loan, no questions asked, took 4 months, 3 without needing to make a payment and we were done and on our way.

As far as buying Christmas Gifts, I have been in the position where I really couldn't afford much for my kids, but I have always bought them something little. How do you tell kids there isn't going to be a Christmas, really people, think before you speak. You really have no idea of the finanical position the OP was in. As stated it wasn't that they couldn't afford the home, but their payment went up. With loan modifications, not always but for the most part, you are not to make a payment until the modication is complete as it messes up the paperwork. And just because they had a modification done, doesn't mean they make poor finanical choices, it means they are smart to find a way to fix things before they lose their home and the kids you all don't think deserve Christmas gifts are living on the street.

I for one OP think you made the best choices for your family and I am sorry if others don't see it. Congrats on the great rate!

You do not need to spend $400 to give kids a christmas. Mods are a joke. They are a reward for people(not including people who lost jobs/income) for making bad choices.

You have noooooooooo idea how we ended up in the situation we found ourselves in & frankly that isn't something I want to share either but lets just say I hope you never find yourself there. We were told by our mortgage company that these programs were designed to help people in our situation.

I did not post this to be preached at or told what poor choices I made, I posted it because I am sure there are plenty of people in my position & I want them to know they don't have to give up, there are options out there.

As far as Christmas my kids come first, period.

Thank you & congratulations on your mod. Ours took so long because they made several mistakes on their end that took a while to clear up. Usually from what I've read they normally take 3-4 months from start to finish.

Okay maybe I am reading this wrong or I just don't understand?

Isn't a mod just renegotiating the terms of your loan? Why the flames? Basically the OP just asked the bank to give her better terms on her loan. Why wouldn't you do that if you could?

Don't you call your Credit card company to lower your interest rates or your dish/cable/phone company to lower the rates? Isn't this the same thing?

Good luck to you & your family and thanks for the info.

:thumbsup2 ~ I agree!

One thing that I find odd is in your signature you have two times that you went to DW in the last 6 months. I'm assuming the dates are 2009 and 2010. If you were behind on your mortgage how could you afford to go to DW?

Wow, some of the mean spirited posts here are astounding.

Don't you know that everyone is entitled to a vacation even if it means not paying your mortgage? The OP's dates might be older so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt right now.

Edited I take my benefit of the doubt back since OP has posted about buying season passes to an amusement park for christmas and has posted about going to Myrtle Beach last Aug. Just another person who bought more than they can afford and doesn't want to take responsiblity for it.

How do you know that?? OMG did you do a search and find other OPs posts? Wow, now that is just creepy.

Seriously if you're behind on your mortgage then no you shouldn't be buying christmas gifts IMO. Sometimes you just have to suck it up & explain the situation to the kids and go much smaller. Spending money when you can't pay to keep a roof over your head is a poor financial decision and then you stick it to the banks nice.

Again, do you know this poster? Do you know anything about their circumstances?

Since you have all the answers, you must be a politician? :lmao:

Yes, its the same thing IMO too. This thread reminds me of other threads where someone decides someone else is cheating the system. Doesn't matter that they too, may do something similar (can you say sharing coupons, codes, ect etc?) but not recognize themselves in their own finger pointing!

i knew it wouldn't take long for the flames to start, amazing. OP congrats on the modification!

Yeah and isn't it a shame? WHY then would anyone want to post helpful information knowing they'll get slammed? Very sad :(

No kidding. Guess too many have too much time on their hands.

I agree too. Congrats OP and glad you got some help. :thumbsup2

OMG I can't believe I'm dignifying some of these responses with a reply! But some of these just make my blood boil!
We don't know the OP or the full story, so who are we to judge? People, the country's in a world of hurt. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything!!!

But yeah, Karma baby!!

:rolleyes1

The OP stated that they bought a house on an interest-only mortgage. That equals a house they couldn't have afforded under normal circumstances. I'm fairly certain that's what's rubbing people the wrong way -- so many people and companies choosing to make bad decisions and then getting bailed out at what will be the public's expense. That's exactly WHY this country's in a "world of hurt". And yeah ... karma, baby! ;)
