I got my son's ear pierced yesterday!

A former co-worker of mine asked us at work whether she should allow her 12 year old daughter to get her belly button pierced, her daughter was giving her a hard time because "all the kids were doing it." We all told her no way would we allow such a thing - too young - ....and she went ahead and let her do it anyway. Those same words came to mind then too.

 I am rendered speechless.

I think piercings on any age males are in poor taste; And the only acceptable piercings on a female are earrings (and not on little ones...preteen or older)

Your son can always take it out & let it close, your OP made it seem like he was hesitant to do it anyway....

If he were my son I would have told him the same thing that I told DD's about belly button piercings, " When you are old enough to sign for it yourself, you are welcome to do it. But I will not sign for it". End of story.
I'm still reading through this thread...FUN! :teeth:...but this pretty much says it for me.

AND...I hate the look on boys. Unless it's on those cuties in the posters at Abercrombie & Fitch. But come to think of it...I never noticed their ears. ;) I'll look tomorrow. :teeth:

I never went ga-ga over Harrison Ford anyway, but when he got his ear(s) pierced, I thought he looked ridiculous.

I got my ears pierced for the 2nd time many years ago, and hated putting all those earrings in, so I let them closed. I ended up getting them re-pierced because then I hated the LOOK of holes (scars) without being able to use them.

As someone else said along the way...I pick my battles too (very few so far, thankfully, and my kids are 17, 15, and 13)...but this would be one of them. It took me a while to cave in to DS(13) having "long" hair, but it's so incredibly curly, it's not like it's falling down his back. And this weekend...haircut!...at his father's and my insistence. He'll get over. And he can wear it down to his waist when he's on his own if he wants.

One thing I can't help noticing from this thread: It seems that the majority of the posters dislike earings on boys and men. Some have cited sports and the possibility of injury, others have just cited the yuck factor. Regardless, this is evidence that a good number of people in society will react negatively to earings on males. Some of these people will be his teachers, his employers, girls he wants to date, parents of girls he wants to date . . . and they'll all be making a first-impression judgement call based upon the earing (as one part of his overall appearance). Sometimes we don't get the opportunity to try for a second impression. He will start out with one strike against him because of the earing. Life's tough enough without handicapping yourself with things that make people question you. Isn't that a good reason to avoid it altogether?
Ooooo...this is good too. ::yes:: :thumbsup2

Have you got to my post yet? Harrison Ford is a man over 40 so it is ick, ick, ick for me!!! He wasn't too bad until he pierced his ear. Harrison, quit trying so dang hard!! thank God the handsome Paul Newman never put a hole in his ear!! :teeth:

I am less bothered by the earing than I am about the comparing him to the baby(who had no choice to get it done) and asking him if he wanted to look handsom for his First Communion... Both are doing a lot of harm to his self-esteem I would thing.

Hope you didn't give yourself too much credit for trying so hard on your post though.
Wow, that was just mean.

So unless you know it's there you would never give it a second thought. I wear these to funerals/weddings, etc...
If you are so adamant about not changing to please other people then why do you take them out for funerals, weddings, etc.? In those situations that's exactly what you're doing.
