He is 8 and has been wanting one for 2 years now but kept chickening out. We were in the mall and passed by a jewelery counter where a woman was piercing a baby's ears. I loked at hin and said "Hey look that baby got it done.Do you want one so you look handsome for your communion next month?" He said ok and I put him on the chair so he couldn't change his mind. He was scared at first but he picked out a small square diamond and after it was done, he couldn't stop looking at himself. He kept saying he loved it. It looks sooooo cute on him! I have to figure out how to download a picture so you guys can see it! If my mom was alive she would have killed me!! What do you guys on the DIS think about it?

Personally I am not a fan of earrings on boys. JMHO. When my son was 10 he wanted one... I told him he can have an earring AND a tattoo... when he is on his own.

yeah...why not.....why are u asking? Gonna flame me? Go ahead...my flame-retardent suit is now ON!

his father has 2 in one ear...his uncle has 1 in each ear......his cousin has 1..we are used to them in my family

I personally am not a fan of earrings in young boys---always makes me think of the 80's and mullets(sp?)
I do like when both ears are pierced in guys in late teens or early 20's though

true...it does remind me of the 80's too! Actually ( this was not my idea) but my son had a *gasp* mullet until kindergarden. I was finally able to cut it once he started school because he said that everyone else had short hair. He got it cut at WDW, that was great

Cool you can get him a tatoo for comfirmation and a mohawk for prom. :rolleyes1

Ok, the earring thing isn't so bad...but a mullet until just a few years ago? Come on mom, haven't you seen Joe Dirt? :confused3 ;)

Not quite the first communion gift my son would every want or that I would every give him. I personally think earings on guys (not to mention little boys) is insane. I would never let my son get one even if he asked until he was 18 and not my responsibility anymore. But this is your son so if it makes you and him happy......

I personally am a very symmetrical person and like it when guys have either both pierced or nothing at all.

With that said I am not one to offer up piercings. When my daughter wants it done sure, but I wouldn't push them to it.

I would be displaying a double standard if I had children of each sex and said one could have their ears pierced while the other couldn't.

ETA: If you are both happy with his ear pierced, then thats great, have fun with it. I look forward to his communion photo and a bit of bling in his ear!

:rolleyes1 You don't really want to know what I think. It's your kid. The deed is done.

No disrespect meant here , but OMG :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: that's hilarious!!

Ummm, okay, your kid, your choice.

But seriously, don't ASK what the people think here unless you're ready for some strong opinions, because I honestly think the majority are not going to be so hot on young boys getting an ear pierced. If you're ready for pages and pages of people spouting their opinions, then you're a stronger person than I am.

When my sister told me she was going to pierce my 5-year-old nephew's ear, her explanation was, "Well, he wants it." I replied, "He's 5. He probably wants to pick his boogers and eat 'em, too, but that doesn't mean you should let him."

Enough said.

Our 7 year old came home from school last week stating his friend Kyle now looked like a girl--when asked why he stated that Kyle got 1 ear pierced. Oh the mouths of first graders.

I am against it--but I noticed the OP is from the NYC area-much different lifestyle than the south.

Hi all,
yes i have to agree this is common in nyc. Many kids same age and i seen younger than this with a piercing.Even i at age 11 got my first ear done and by 18 had 3 in my left ear and 2 to the right.Remember this can be removed and the hole will close up,so if you don't like it or the kid changes his mind it can be undone.I had no choice but to do just that when i started at the FDNY academy. That was the last time i had a earing, close to 7 years ago.I have no scars and if you look at my ears you would have no idea i have them. All the holes closed up.Many kids in nyc have this is very popular.

I love the look of little boys with an earring..my daughter is in first grade and there are many boys that have an earring already in her grade...its the norm here! My godson got his first in kindergarten.
