I got my new camera!

My new Nikon Coolpix P4 arrived last night! I have a feeling it's going to take me awhile to learn all the bells and whistles, but I'm already loving the big LCD screen and rechargable battery. The sports setting should come in handy this weekend for the big skating event we're having here. I just have to get a new memory card. The ones I have don't work on this type of camera.

Welcome to P4ville. I bought one a few weeks ago as my backup camera and am having a great time with it. I especially love the panoramic function in Scenes mode.

I noticed that one when I was clicking through all the options last night. How do you like the vibration reduction? Do you find it works well? My hands shake a bit, so that feature was one of the main reasons I bought the P4.

I've not been all that impressed with the VR, but then again I'm used to using an SLR, so I can dial out the vibration issues I would normally have.

Then again, if it's taking out the vibration I might normally see, then it's doing a great job, because I'm not seeing much except in extreme circumstances.

AFAIAC, you can't go wrong with a Coolpix for a P&S. I love my 990, and the P4 has only cemented that preference for Nikons when buying a P&S.

I think the only thing I dislike about the camera is the lack of a viewfinder. I find myself wanting to put the camera up to my face 90% of the time.
