It’s been one month since we were at Walt Disney World. That means it’s time for two things to happen:
  1. Start my Trip Report and StoryBook (they are related, you know!)
  2. Start planning our next trip. That’ll be in 3-4 years, but you can never start too early!
In case you didn’t read any of my pre-trip report, you may want to start with that so you’ll have somewhat of an idea of what I’m talking about from time to time. It's a shameless plug, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. ;)

Okay – here we go! It’s …
  • Me, QuiltyMom – Disney fanatic since I was four
  • Handsome (yes – that’s my actual nickname for him!) – Not a Disney fanatic by any means, but he’s getting there, very s-l-o-w-l-y.
  • Buddy Boy – DS9. Because he didn’t want to be called sweetie anymore.
  • Sweetie Girl – DD7. Because well, she is.

Day 1. It’s finally here! The Trip there.

Something happens when you grow older. Time seems to go faster all the time. For example:

THEN: I remember waiting on our front lawn with my sisters on Halloween night, wishing the sun to go down faster so we could get on with the job of trick-or-treating. It just wouldn’t move. You see, we needed that candy.

NOW: We’re eating dinner and the kids are coming around for their treats, which makes my kids not want to eat dinner because there’s candy out there with their names on it and they gotta go and get it. NOW. And I still need to get my costume on. We won’t even go into the problems DH is having with his costume. What a fiasco.

I figure that starting to pack in April (yes, April!) really paid off this time around. That and the fact that I was working from the most fine-tuned and detailed packing list of all time. I've been working on getting it just right since our 2005 trip to the World.

5:00 am, Saturday, October 13. The alarms go off & I literally jump out of bed and hit the shower. This day came faster than I had ever anticipated. After 9 months of almost continual planning, wishing & dreaming, D-Day was actually here! Handsome and I were able to complete our packing by 11:00 the night before, so I did get into bed before midnight, a complete miracle. The only problem was that I was so hyped up that I couldn’t even begin to relax to sleep. I did manage to fall asleep, somehow.

We got ready, roused the kids, fed them breakfast and amazingly enough, we’re all set to go when the cab arrives at 6:15. Handsome was already waiting outside with the luggage. Miracles never cease to amaze me.

We get to Washington’s Reagan National Airport around 6:40 and drag our luggage around to the US Airways counter for check-in. We're to the security line about 10 minutes later. It’s funny, the TSA agents freaked out that we did not take the portable DVD player out of its bag and in its own bin, but they said nothing about the three 3-1-1 bags of liquids stashed in my carry-on that I forgot to place separately in a bin. Go figure.

After we get through security, its 1-1/2 hours of waiting before our plane takes off. I thought that I'd grab a few shots around the terminal while I waited.

Here's the Washington National Cathedral:

The Washington Monument (you can barely see the Jefferson Memorial peeking above the trees on the right):

Did ya'll know that Washington Reagan National Airport is actually in Virginia?

Handsome gets us snacks, and we wait. The plane just sits there, waiting for us to get on!

221804970-M.jpg

My Pal Mickey - "Mick" - and Sweetie Girl's puppy, Lisa, get acquainted. You see, they just met.

221805164-M.jpg

Then amazingly enough, it’s time to board the plane! :cheer2:

221805275-M-1.jpg

The flight leaves on time – wow - and I spend the whole flight time trying to figure out just how my new camera works. I had taken it to Williamsburg and Jamestown just the week before when I chaperoned Buddy Boy’s day-long field trip, but that just began to scratch the surface. By the time we arrived EARLY at MCO – another wow - I at least had a grip on how to work on the thing.

We deplane; make the necessary pit stops, then try to find our way to the Disney Magical Express line. I’m very directionally challenged, so we had to stumble around a bit. We eventually find the place and wait in what I think is a huge line to check in. It’s now 11:10 am.

Exactly 10 minutes later (that line really moved fast) I am gathering the family from the DME waiting area and we are heading to the Red Carpet. (Or as ZUBB puts it, the doormat.) You can barely see it in the bottom right hand corner of the photo.

221804773-L-1.jpg

But all the same, we go to our designated line for PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE & FRENCH QUARTER and wait ... and wait ... and wait … for what seems like an eternity, yet was only ½ hour. The bus came and we got on. Thrilling, but true.

221804542-M.jpg

I’m so excited that I was shaking. I felt like I was about to get up in front of a crowd to speak – without notes. Dry mouth, the boatload of butterflies in my stomach, the whole bit.

221804808-M.jpg

I know that really wasn't an exciting pic, but I was on the DME!!

The bus takes off - not soon enough in my opinion. And before long - this is what I see:

Next - The Resort.

Oh, POR, lovely POR.

Can't wait to read, we loved POR and are going again in August :yay:

This is really cool cant wait for the rest. Its getting me pumped for my trip in 20 days.

LOVE POR! Can't wait for the pics so I can reminisce. We are staying off property this time around, I can't wait for the day I can see POR again.

Did ya'll know that Washington Reagan National Airport is actually in Virginia?

I did, I did. I just can't believe the airport is so close to all the monuments. We were sitting peacefully at the Lincoln memorial and they must have switched the incoming planes, we couldn't believe how many were zooming over our heads.

Looking good quiltymom! So far, I am enthralled and enraptured!!

There's a great park, Gravelly Point, that's right next to the airport, where you can lie on your back and watch the planes either take off or land right above you. It's pretty amazing. Loud, but amazing.

A fun thing to remember for anyone who loves airplanes and who will be in DC.

:yay: u started your tr. Oh POR I have 64 or 63 days. Great start and love all the pics.

I have only flown into Dulles in Washington so I did not know that.

Sign me up! Can't wait to hear more about your trip. You have done such a great job with your other reports!

Wow quiltymom! You're good~

I love how you think,

your writing is fab!

When do we get to read more?

:duck:

WE'RE HERE!!!!!

Oh, who cares if it's not an exciting picture!! We're going in December and taking the Magical Express and I'm so excited for it! LOL. I will probably be doing the same thing when we go.

Love the one of the sign!! Don't you just love the feeling when you pass through that?!?!?

My goodness! Wow. Y'all are great for a person's ego, did you know that?

I'm glad that you are enjoying the report so far. I guess I gotta get working on the next part. I'm having fun with it. But first Handsome & I gotta get our kid's bathroom put back together, which means before that can actually happen I gotta stop playing on the DIS and get back upstairs and paint!

Hopefully I'll have another installment in a day or two... I'd rather be here than painting a bathroom, that's for sure!

Until then... :wave2:

We’re here. YES! :woohoo:

I told Handsome to take care of the kids and grab our carry-on stuff from the DME so I could run ahead and get into the check-in line ahead of everyone else.

I headed into the registration area and got myself into line.

By now I’m a happy nervous wreck. I’m desperately waiting to hear those wonderful words – “Welcome Home!” as I walk up to the desk to check in. I’m also imagining how I will ask the clerk to say them again for me. I’m HOME! I can’t wait to hear it. About 10 minutes later I get to the check in window and my CM says to me …

“Hi. How can I help you?”

WHAT? No “Welcome Home?” I was too shocked to make him say it. But I KNEW that I was home, so I just said it to myself. Nanna nanna boo boo.

Sorry – I had to get that out of my system.

The check in process goes rather smoothly. They were going to put is in Magnolia Terrace, but even though I love the way that place looks I wanted Parterre Place. Why? Two reasons. First, because it was closest to POFQ, where I really really really really wanted to stay. See, I’ve never been to New Orleans, and I thought that staying at POFQ would be the closest thing I’d be getting to stay there. But when one receives a $520.00 Disney Visa discount to change resorts over to POR, you really can’t complain about it, ya know? That, and the fact that Parterre Place was an original non-smoking building and I needed to stay there due to my asthma. Okay, boring reason but true.

The CM was able to find a room that was ready at Parterre Place. Yay! He shows me on the map where it is, I gather the family together (Handsome was catching some shut-eye on a chair and the kids were watching cartoons), and we’re off.

222775477-M-1.jpg

We did find that we’re only a few minutes walk from the Main Building, which is just fine with us.

222775423-M.jpg

220162315-M.jpg

Have I mentioned yet that I’m directionally challenged? Well, let’s just say that we did have a nice tour of Parterre Place since the CM showed me where our room was on the map UPSIDE DOWN. Sooo, we got to explore a bit, finally making it to room 9526.

222773523-M.jpg

I make them wait outside while I went inside to take photos of the room before the explosion happened. Y’all know what I mean, don’t you. The explosion that happens immediately once kids enter a room? So, I got my pics and then the invasion began. I never took photos of the room afterwards- it was too sad. The room never looked the same again.

Here are shots from the doorway:

The kids got a kick out of the towel animals (the only ones we’d see all week):

222774423-M.jpg

We dropped off our carry-ons, then headed on over to the Riverside Mill for lunch, taking the long way around so we could see the resort. What a beautiful place we have landed in!

222774685-M.jpg

On our way, we passed a family of 4 riding around in a surrey bike. You can see them in the photo above. It wouldn’t have been funny, except the dad was singing the bit of song from the Wizard of Oz whenever the Wicked Witch appears. You know what I mean! (Everybody sing along ... "da da da da da da da..."). It was too funny. I just wonder … was he making a statement about his family?

We eventually get to the Riverside Mill by way of Old Man’s Island.

(Later on in the report I'll post direct links to my dining reviews as they are written. I haven't gotten to this one yet. But you can read all about our food there by hitting the link to my dining report in my signature.)

The food court is a great place. For me, getting thrown into one when the natives (family) are hungry, it’s the first time we’ve used the dining plan for a meal, and it’s busy with people, well, it makes for very hard food related decision making. But I finally choose something to eat, and the rest is history.

After lunch we gave the kids the option of going swimming or heading on over to the MK to get started in on the fun. I was out ruled three-to-one  (Handsome counted as a kid there), so we changed into our swimsuits, which I had smartly packed into our carry-on bags, and headed over to Old Man’s Island for a dip in the cement pond.

222773558-M.jpg

The pool was busy, but not so much that you couldn’t move around. The kids had a blast on the slide. Sweetie Girl even got herself a prize from the kiddie pool area – a little squirting rubber ducky with a jester hat. (Sweetie Girl LOVES rubber duckies. If you ask her a math question, her answer usually is “Ducky." Well, she is only 7! Ducky is her favorite answer for anything.)

222773396-S.jpg

Handsome decides that hanging out at the pool was the best way to begin our trip after a long day of travel, although I really wanted to get to the MK first thing. But I didn’t complain and just had fun relaxing and swimming with my family. It was a great way to start our Disney vacation, after all.

222773401-M.jpg

Now, why didn't I go over to Muddy Rivers to get a Pina Colada? I just thought of that ... :scratchin

Next – Chef Mickey’s and the MK.

Great start to your TR and wonderful pictures! We stayed at POFQ this past May and it was great. POR looks nice too - we stayed there in the 90's when it was called Dixie Landings. It sure looks alot different now. :)

that is a nice way to start the vacation. why didn't u go get a pina colada? I had a southern Hurricane, OMG it was good.

Love the pics of the resort. This is going to be a good report.
