It was time to leave the pool to get ready for dinner at Chef Mickeys. Our bags were waiting for us in our room when we returned isnt the DME wonderful?
Now, Ill admit that I was a bit paranoid about the busses at POR after reading many horror stories about it here on the DIS. We were cutting our timing kind of close, so we were very tempted to hop an EPCOT bus and do a monorail transfer to the Contemporary. Yet we decided to buckle down and wait for the MK bus, which showed up only minutes later.
Since it was a beautiful day, we decided to walk over to the Contemporary. Im glad that we did. It was fun to come through the front doors and see it as a guest would.
If youve been reading my dining report youll remember that I lack any sense of direction. So yes, it took us a bit to finally make it up to Chef Mickeys (bypassing the shops was a hard thing for me to do!), and we arrived at the check-in desk 5 minutes early for our ADR. Check out my
dining report for more on this fun evening.
After dinner we chose to go to the MK. I was split between doing that or going back to the resort to settle in more and get a good first nights rest before our busy week. But getting overruled again, we hopped the monorail over to the MK (here are some photos of the trip over)
and fumbled our way through the finger-scan thingie. We were in!
The first thing the kids saw was a bunch of hula-hoops just as we went through the entrance, so we had to stop there for a while.
I finally dragged the kids away so we could get our first official PhotoPass family picture, then we were hopped on the train to Frontierland.
In retrospect, going to the MK on a Saturday evening is not a very good idea.
Duh. After seeing the long waits for some rides, we settled on a ½ hour wait for POTC.
I didnt want to do this because Spectromagic would be almost starting when we would get off of the ride. I really wanted to watch Spectro and Wishes that evening, but I knew that if we didnt get on the bus right then, it would be forever until we were back at the resort; thus, a late evening for the start of a very busy week.
Since the railroad was closed for the parade, I knew that we would have move fast. I maneuvered the family through the Adventureland crowds, routed us through the Main Street shops, excuse med past the people in Town Square and made it through the turnstiles just minutes after the parade began. Whew!
Thankfully we didnt have to wait long for a bus, and we were in our rooms and in bed by 10:00. Our first day was over. Nitey-nite!
Except that our dreams and nightmares actually happened the next day
