Ok so here's my rationals.............. please tell me one of them is true.

I quit smoking! ( thats a biggy )

muscles weight more than fat?

I should stop sleepeating! ( my ususlly 3 cookies @ 3 in the morning when I get up with baby......I just CAN't NOT leave these cookies alone )

I blame the cookies. I know that when you quit smoking you gain but I have been to the gym everyday and really working hard! I wanted to counteract the quitting affect! and maybe break even! muscle weighs more? Yea I know this but shouldnt that be just in the beggining?

Last wed. I was 178 and by satuday I was 176...today ( wed) I am 179!

:scared: not to worry all, I won't let it get to me just help find a reason as to why! :confused3

Renee -- My weight can fluctuate by as much as 4 pounds from one morning to the next. I have no idea if it is the scale or my body. Just eating something salty the night before can make a big difference. Don't drive yourself nuts over what the scale says. Just stay on track, keep doing what you are doing and soon you will see a whoosh! It might be on any given day.

Congrats on sticking with quitting smoking! I am so impressed and happy for you!

My weight fluctuates by 4 pounds in one day. Take it all in stride--figure out what you wish your "eating" lifestyle to be and find a plan that can accomodate that.

Daily weigh ins will do you in. Even at Curves they limit to once a month.

If you are exercising, add measurements. B/c while you may go up a pound or two or not lose any in a given week...you could have lost some inches somewhere.

Also--during that time of the month--my weight will go up and if it does...it will not go down until after mother nature has done her job that month.

I think a woman's body is designed to do it as it prepares each month for a little one even if we have no plans for it--so ignore the 1 pound ups and downs and pick a measurement day and swear off the scale for the rest of the week (or month).

Good luck, Renee!

Congrats on quitting smoking! The same thing happens with my weight all the time and it drives me nuts. I still weigh myself every morning, but I only count my "official" weight on Wednesdays. I think it is normal to fluctuate 3-4lbs throughout the week. I know water retention and TOM are killers. Hang in there!

thanks, of course you make all the sense in the world! but it just plain ole stinks when you get all syked on your way to the gym and then are like...
:scared: :crazy2:  :headache: !!!!!!!! lol
I am though, (gonna take it all in stride) ::yes::

I just got off the TM and while i was on there, I was thinking about my habits, routines and patterns and, I realized that if I am exercising daily I am usually not eating properly! Vice versa, if I am eating right, I am usually not exercising regularly!

It seems as if (perhaps subconciuosly) I am telling myself, well its okay to eat that you did 3 miles today! :hyper2:

or

you don't have to excercise today cause you really stuck to that plan.

but, I think its more of the first one! I love to push myself physically, and simply LOVE to eat ( the wrong foods ) lol! :confused3
:scratchin almost like "WORK HARD, PLAY HARD" but in my case,
WORKOUT HARD EAT MORE ( cookies ) :scratchin

Well hopefully now that I have noticed this in myself, I will do something about it!

come on keeps the comments coming perhaps something will sink in!

((RENEE)) now stop this worrying! this is why you shouldn't weigh yourself everyday! that's an ongoing discussion i have with my mom, she weighs everyday i weigh once a week. i don't need to see the number to know how i'm doing, i KNEW last tuesday it would be bad, i hadn't eaten right -- and my number was up. i'm not weighing myself again until my next WI day and i know doing the right things are what it takes. you know it too -- now forgive yourself and just keeping moving forward. one (or three) cookies won't permanently erase any good you have done this week -- but now eating those cookies everyday like clockwork will add-up.

i'm rambling, sorry

my WW buddy annieT said something that really hit home for me, i need to 'schedule' treats within my week and then enjoy them. total deprivation or going cold turkey just backfires for me. i hear cold turkey in your plea, maybe you can find a balance where you are still losing but not so hard on yourself! you can do this -- WISHERS ROCK! (you knew that right?)

Congratulations on quitting that smoking! You can do this!

I agree with scheduling in those things you think you must have. Moderation is key. Shift some things around and keep working on those healthy choices. If you slip, get back up and keep going. You are doing it.

I love that you have analyzed your habits and are learning more about you. This is superb!

Keep on keepin' on.

I agree with what everyone has said about scheduling treats. I have learned to allot a certain number of points every day to a treat that I have at the end of the day. Looking forward to that helps me stay on track during the day.

You are doing great, Renee, just by becoming more aware of the habits you need to unlearn. And face it, you are doing great breaking bad habits. Ride that wave, kiddo!  :teeth:

hmmmmmm! scheduled treats? thats sounds reasonable!

Maybe, I leave one cookie out for that 3 in the morning trip to the kitchen!
really, its just that one time of the day/night that has got me crazy!

Alos, I was thinking that perhaps the sunflowere seeds I have been eating ( by the truckload) have something to do with me NOT losing! lol all that salt cant be good!

I just am not ready to give them up! I have successfully quit smoking and have used them as a crutch to do so! lol. ahhh1 from one addiction to another. I am trying to wean my self off of them! I bought a 24 pack carton @ sams club and am averaging about 4 packs a day! today, I am down to 2 packs.......
also, my next weaning process wil be this patch (nicotine patch)!

anyway began to ramble thanks for listneing all!

oh mom! no more weighing myself to often either, I am gonna stick with once a week at the gym!

thanks all

Renee -- I am soo happy for you that you are doing so well. 11 days, right?!
If you need the sunflower seeds until you get past the adjustment phase, I would suggest you just keep track of what you are eating and figure that in your daily allowance.
As for setting the cookies aside -- I started doing something a while ago that made me so happy and was so effective. I portioned out what my treat would be and put it out on the counter. The anticipation was manageable and then it was easily had, but in a measure that I could handle. If you have allocated a certain number of calories or points for that treat, you may even find it enjoyable to look for other low cal/point options in the cookie aisle so that you can have more for the same "cost". I got very hooked on those 100 calorie packs of oreo crisps. OMG. They taste like the crumblies in carvel cakes. Might that help?

Anyway, sorry for hogging your thread, but I am so grateful for the support and encouragement I have found here and wanted you to know there are people out here who don't even know you who are so very impressed with how well you are doing. Keep up the great work! :wizard: :goodvibes:  :sunny: :flower3:

cam! your are so NOT hogging my thread I look forward to new ideas that you all have to offer. ;)

I was thinking that perhaps, i will find a NEW way to eat. I have been a low carber for so long, I have just become so used to those types of foods. I mean I love friut and yogurt but the thought of all the CARBS drives me nuts. I guess because I did at one tme lose so much weight doing LC I feel it works for me. But, to be quite honest, I am kinda getting tired of it. what do you think?

renee :confused3

I am a high protein person myself, but I don't avoid carbs. I just make sure I have some protein with every meal. And I tend to do some kind of protein for my late afternoon snack (usually a lite cheese stick). I find the meals are more satisfying taste-wise but also keep me full longer.

wow! I am getting sooooooooo frustrated!

what gives? :confused3

It is 5 days since I began this post! I am UP 6 pounds!

As most of you may know, I have recently quit smoking! 2 weeks! hooray for me but, the whole your metabolism will slow down now has really got me in an up roar!

Unless, its that and the sunflower seed addiction! lol :confused3

I gave those up last night!
So today, I hit the grocery store and decide I cant do LC anymore, I am completely conditioned though, to live this way! all high fat foods etc.

I almost didnt know what to buy! As I write this I am eating a LIGHT yogurt!

and am cringing because it says 19 carbs!

anyway here are my facts please any input is great!

Gained 6 pounds in 2 weeks I quit smoking and now sunflower seeds........
I have been to the gym 12 or the past 14 days! and have been on the TM (3miles non stop) the past 10 of 14 days! so really, what gives?

anyway, so far today, I had an apple for bKFT
ham and swiss on 2 slices of LITE and LC bread
and am eating a yogurt now I plan on having a salad for dinner and FF jello.

this an okay plan for today?

renee (totally freaking out! :bitelip:

Renee-- please don't freak out!!!!!

Your body is going through a lot of changes right now, especially with the switch from smoking to no smoking. You may be gaining weight, but the change is GOOD!!!

Don't give up-- your body probably needs some time to adjust to its new lifestyle, but then you will be able to lose again.

You are causing another switch, from low carb, high fat, to low fat, more carbs, so don't be upset if you gain a little again-- just hang in there, and you will eventually lose weight.

I have some not-so-favorable genes, so I know how frustrating it can be to gain weight when you do everything right-- eventually, though, if you stick with it, it will all even out!!

With the sunflower seeds, is it the seeds you are addicted to, or do you just need something to chew on??? If it is the latter, maybe it would help to find some other, low fat options-- perhaps carrot/celery sticks, raw veggies, pickles, even sugar free gum (since it would last longer-- this adds up in calories though if you go through a lot)

Also, if you are having trouble with the switch from low carb, maybe it would help to try a structured program such as weight watchers???

hi disney girl!

i do agree that my body is in a bad funk right now with all the changes.
I am smart enough to say that I will not go back to smoking cause of this. as a matter fact this is exactly what happened last year when I gained from the giving up of smokes. I total broke down and lit up again. The way I see it now, I got 2 weeks under my belt and yea I gained but damage is done so now I have to work on the weight! Its just so frustrating when i am actually exercising and this happens. Only leads me to think what would have happened had I NOT exercised! lol :smooth:

anyway, I am thinking about giving ww a fair chance I did it last year (for about 1 day) and decided it wasnt for me. ( too much work was my thinking) but I seriuosly have to REtrain my eating habits and most of all portions.

are you on WW?

renee

Please don't flame me, but what is your exercise routine like? You'll burn a bunch of calories (those cookies) if your burning more calories. How long/when do you exercise? This week I've been averaging at least an hour (every week night). I haven't seen it posted here, but your monthly cycle could be a factor too. I tend to munch more right before, therefore, gaining.

You've gotten this far, you just have to get over another hurdle. You can do it! Push yourself, PM your WISH buddy. After you've worked out, you won't want to eat another extra cookie b/c that means you'll have to work that off too.

I also think you are gaining muscle. Have you measured your body (arms, legs, waist, etc.). Just b/c your gaining wt. doesn't mean you are not getting smaller. Have hope! You'll get there!

I just read your post again. There's a baby involved? Kids can make you do the darndest things. Late night/early morning hunger will do it every time. I know it will be hard to do, but can you much on three pieces of some thing else? If you are nursing it will be tough, but if not, what about healthier foods that will fill your need to crunch? Carrots, celery, granola bar? If you eat the cookies, drink lots of water/milk after to flush what you ate out later.

I hope I am making sense.

Renee, How much water are you drinking. Trying drinking half your body weight in water a day. If you are at 200 lbs, drink 100oz a day in water. I carry around a 25 oz water bottle with me and am refilling it. I found that it is easier to keep track of what I drink when using the water bottle than if I just kept refilling a glass.

HI and thanks!
I think i past the "freak out" stage! :scared:
I do drink alot of water, about 6 24 oz! I refill too!
As. far as exercise, my routine latly has been the Tm at 1 o'clock I do 5 mph for 36 minutes that gets me 3 miles (nonstop, proud to say, now that I don't smoke! ) then I walk another 1/4 to cool down. I then go to curves which, I know can be NOT to vigorious but, I try and make it that way! I try NOT to talk to others there, then it becomes a socail thing! Dont get me wrong I like everyne I have met there but, I find when i begin to talk, I dont work out as hard.

Anyway, hindsight, I am thinking that my recent weight gain is definitly a slow down of my metabolism (due to not smoking) and those 30+ bags of very salty sunflower seeds I ate.
I gave both the smokes and the seeds up and think I will be on my way to weight loss! :wave2: I hope!

As, far as eating, I have to admit, I just cant get away from the LC lifestyle!
I ate good yesterday, and didnt cheat! I really have to focus on going to bed early. And the late night oreos have been replaced with sugar free wafers!

I just can't see myself grabbing a "late night carrot stick" lol :lmao:
I really need to get my eating routine down and try and keep a fresh mental state. I know, how I can easliy be discouraged! which is why I lvoe WISH so much! your all such an inspiration!

take care all.
