I'd send them a letter or email, rather than call, it may get more attention.

In DVCs defense, there is no way to know which reservations are actually involved unless they take CM time to compare what is offered on the site and what is booked.

Why doesn't RCI just block guest certificates for DVC exchanges!?!?!?

If RCI blocked guest certificates for DVC exchanges, they'd run into the same problem DVC would run into if they tried to control the rental of DVC reservations - how could they tell the difference between a guest certificate issued to family or friends vs. one issued to a renter?

I've been following your thread on TUG as well (https://www.tugbbs.com/forums/index...with-42-rci-saratoga-springs-listings.295710/), and there are several thoughtful responses today that add to understanding of what the difficulties and issues are with this situation. I'd suggest that anyone interested should read that thread as well.

I don't care who gets to use the deposit and am having trouble understanding why anyone else does. This seems to be a RCI problem that has no adverse impact on DVC members. We don't allow these type of rentals to be arranged via the R/T Board on the DIS.

I think if you read the TUG thread above there are some good explanations on how this potentially hurts DVC members. Also it is against RCI's rules and against the agreement that DVC has with RCI. RCI is supposed to be enforcing the rules but simply isn't. Though overall the impact is far more to non-DVC owners in RCI than those that own DVC.

The Feb weeks are at least 213 points. That’s like a $6.5/point rental..same as current dues.
I guess after $300+ fees it’s closer to $8/point.
If these rentals remain allowed and are common enough, it hurts the rental and contract prices of other DVC members.

It's a cheaper stay if you own Wyndham and trade into SSR than it is to own SSR and pay dues on it. If you own within multiple systems, it allows you to alternate between Wyndham points and DVC points while still getting a DVC vacation every time as long as you are okay with frequently staying at SSR. It cost me $1000, including purchase price dues and fees, to trade into a week at SSR. A lot of people on TUG that are Wyndham owners are also DVC owners. I was planning on getting a small DVC contract to use about1/4th of the time I go to Orlando (I want to go 3-4 times a year to see my family). I want to own Wyndham, WorldMark and DVC. DVC is at the bottom of my list though because the other two are much more flexible where you can go.

I want to trade into SSR using Wyndham, Marriott using Worldmark, and use my points for Bonnet Creek, Reunion, and the new Orlando Margaritaville Vacation Club that is only partially built. There's so many awesome resorts in Orlando beyond DVC. That's an example where it will affect me if I do buy a 160pt DVC contract because that's the most expensive purchase. My Wyndham ownerships will cost me under $5000, the DVC one however will be about $16,000.

The RCI inventory is meant for RCI members and their family, not the highest bidder. If these companies were dealt with properly, more people might realize how great of a deal it is to pick up a resale Wyndham ownership for a few hundred dollars with a good chance at getting a DVC week rather than adding on DVC points for thousands of dollars. If you were to ask the majority of people looking to add on if they were okay with SSR every other time if it meant not having a high purchase price, most people would prefer that option because Club Wyndham does have some badass family resorts on the beach, in the Smokies and at the Dells.

An exchange is someone else's ownership. This company is renting out DVC exchanges without the consent of the Wyndham owner or the DVC owner. You simply cant rent out RCI reservations because you dont own the property or the right to use it. Wyndham is ownership and DVC is right to use. That's why it is against RCI policy.

Vacation strategy is the same company many people use on these forums to book wyndham bonnet creek for cheap. They are well known and to my knowledge have been renting out RCI reservations for years.

The problem is, even if you complain. They are most like acting on a owners behalf and there no way for Disney or RCI to know who the owner is.

I doubt they are renting without the wyndham owners constent. How would that even be possible? Is there a chance the owners off the LLC are owners renting their own exchanges?

Vacation Strategy most likely owns the points they're using to trade into RCI. I know several of the companies that rent out Wyndham Bonnet Creek own those points.

I think it's just about as "fair" as owners renting out their DVC points. Either way it hurts people trying to trade in. If you couldn't rent out you'd bank your points freeing up a reservation for someone else to trade into.

I work in the timeshare industry and this is common. I'm always amazed that II & RCI members have no idea that it's against the exchange company rules. The problem is that you have timeshare sales people telling prospective buyers that they can rent out weeks booked through exchange companies and in-house employees of both RCI & II tell people that they can "Just get a guest certificate."

Interval International is absolutely cracking down on owners renting out high demand reservations booked through II, but RCI doesn't do a darn thing. So unless RCI starts looking at booking patterns and guest certificate patterns and coming down on their members, this just won't change.

It makes me sad, because while we are DVC members, we also have Wyndham points that we regularly use for SSR stays through RCI.
