I thought I would let everyone know I found a therapist who does sliding scales. She is about 45 minutes away from and my appointment is scheduled for two weeks ago. I'm hoping she can help me deal/cope with my family situation. Can anyone sort of tell me what to expect in therapy or how to act?

No advice, but just a big YAY for you. Good luck, I know you will feel better soon~:grouphug:

I don't have any advice on what to expect, but I wanted to say :thumbsup2 I hope every goes well. :goodvibes

:cool1: Yay!!! I've never been in a therapy sit., but my advice is to be yourself.

I also don't know the situation, but have you thought about also seeking the help of a church?

Anyway - that's awesome news!

Be yourself and remember that you are not a psychiatric diagnosis....you are a human being.

Good for you!

As for therapy, be open and honest about what's going on. Don't expect things to be sugarcoated and expect that it's going to be hard intense work, but when you're on the other side, it feels so good!

The only way for therapy to work is to be brutually honest with yourself and remember the therapist is there to help you, not judge you.

Be honest when she asks you questions. She doesn't know you so she can only help you if you tell her the problems.

Good Luck!

I'll repeat what everyone else is saying. Just be honest. The therapist is not there to judge you, but to help you.

Usually the first visit is just a get to know you session, and to find out what's bothering you. Just be yourself.

I have been seeing a therapist for a few years. I started to help cope with the problems I was having with 2 of my kids and feeling like a failure. I was fortunate that i really clicked with my therapist. I now call it my monthly decompression session. I have a lot of stress taking care of my grandkids and being around my DD's fiancee who is not my favorite person. It is not that bad. You will do most of the talking with a little guidance from the therapist. It is a great way to get some insight into yourself and your family. If you don't feel that you are clicking try another one. My DS saw 4 as a teenager before he found one he liked a little. He was dealing with a lot of depression after losing a close friend to a drug OD and his grandmother and then finding out at 15 he was going to be a father. It really helped him. I think everyone should try it at some point in their life.

Thank you for the advice and well wishes. I'm nervous about doing therapy because I'm so used to the psychiarist visits where I turn in a mood tracker and talk about whether the medication works or not. I'm really hoping the therapist can click with me. Last night I was able to talk with my boyfriend and he was pretty understanding and listened to me. He sort of feels bad because I feel lonely because of my brother and at the same time he spends a lot of time with his friends and stuff. He told me he will try to spend more time with me.

Way to go Browneyes! Both on finding a therapist and on talking with your boyfriend.

Other posters have given you good advice so I'll just wish you Good Luck.
