I don't have either the money or the time to do it, but it's fun to dream.

This was inspired by a show on the Travel channel last night on the Colorado river.

The trip starts by flying into Denver and renting a car. Go up to the Rocky Mountain National Park and spend about a week. Then hop in the car and drive down to Arches National Monument and the Canyonlands, spending another week in that area. Next on to Lake Powell where you rent a houseboat for several days and explore the nooks and crannies of Lake Powell. Finally on to the Grand Canyon before driving down to Phoenix and heading home.

It would take 3-4 weeks at least to do properly, and more money than I have, but that's one I think would be a lot of fun.

Sounds like a great plan to me. I'm thinking about something similar:
Flying into Denver to stay there for a week: We'd do Rocky Mountain NP for a day or two, the Denver Zoo, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Downtown Denver/16th Street Mall.
Then a week on a Dude Ranch somewhere in the Rockies: Horseback riding, whitewater rafting, fly fishing, horseshoe throwing, Bar-B-Q, etc.
Then a week to drive via Lake Powell and Grand Canyon over the Westcoast.
And eventually a week in the LA-area to see the Disney-Parks, Hollywood and Malibu.
Return flight to Germany from LAX.
We planned to this in 2004, but then in 2003 I won a free cruise on the Disney Magic and we 'had to' ;) go to Florida again, but for next week this vacation is one of the possibilities we're thinking about. The otehr plans being South Africa, or Kenya/Tansania, or Australia.

One of my life long dream is to get a Wofkwagen type camper and to the Ultimate american road trip ! route 66 , thge grand Canyon etc. That coud be a way to do it cheaper , with a minivan instead of renting a car: you would save on hotels ! ( But I know you love the small BandB type o0f places , so that is cheap too !

I'm also lazy -- a camper or RV takes a lot of work to set up and maintain. :)
