How bad is it really?

Our 1st trip is coming up Sept 24th- Oct 1st. My kids (especially my 2 yr old) freaks at flying bugs. We couldn't even eat at an outdoor picnic table because she would not stop complaining about a few annoying flies.

I lived in the south for short time and I have been to some non-city parts of Louisiana where the air was just filled with them. It was like walking through a black cloud of love bugs. It that extreme or just normal?

Will it be any better at the parks vs FW?

I am afraid the kids will not do well with swarms of love bugs. I am really getting worried.

Since they don't bite I can handle their being annoying. They were pretty bad at the water parks the year we went in Sept. If your kids are really bothered by bugs you might want to reschedule. You never know how bad/good they will be any given year.

I am going to have to talk it over with my MIL and DH.

I felt like I had thought everything through and that this would be a great vacation. However swarms of love bugs would ruin it for us. I know there is no way to predict when exactly they will be there or how bad it will be. I realize that our week could be a great bug-free week but if it is bad I'm pretty certain it will ruin the trip completely.

it is pretty bad..especially if its the morning after it rain. lovebugs are all over the bus stopss/benches/walls outside.

We will be there Sept 22 to Oct 1. Were there the same time 2 years ago and love bugs were aplenty. There were a lot of them, but they do not bother you and hurt in any way. My daughter thought they were funny how they were joined together. It is a great time to go otherwise with minimal crowds, hardly any wait times, and good weather overall. Hope it works out!:goodvibes

I wouldn't bother rescheduling your vacation over such a minor thing. Nobody knows when they will arrive, so they could very well be gone before your trip begins. We have the same dates for our trip and are not worried about it. If they are there when we show up, we will just remember to wash the bugs off the car and have a magical vacation!

I wish I could have that attitude but from what I encountered in my limited love bug experience I wouldn't ever go outside with swarms everywhere.

wow I never knew love bugs were that bad up there. I am only 2 hrs south of disney and lovebug season here is in may. I have never had an issue with them any other time. I go to night of joy which is in the middle of sept and never saw any at all.

I hate when they start swarming. I couldnt even pump gas one day cause they were all over me. i had to sit in the van and then pump out to put the pump back and get my receipt. it is bad. They are definitely one annoying bug.

I don't want to hijack, but we are heading down to the fort next week. When do the love bugs typically show up, or are they already there?

we've lived in central florida for 10 years. main lovebug months are may and september. sometimes it's pretty much confined to those two months. the worst we've seen is mid-april to mid-june &/or mid-august to mid-october. they seem to be lighter after a cold year, and worse after a hot rainy season.
even tho they don't bite, i find them to be disgusting. they typically swarm twice a day - mid morning and mid afternoon, but sometimes they don't get the memo and can be bad all day.
if they were here all year round, we wouldn't live here!:scared1: lovebugs are no friends to cars or rv's. i can not imagine anyone tent camping during lovebug season!
how bad they are at the Fort, other WDW hotels, or the parks, depends upon how often disney sprays. they have to spray every night to have even a temporary effect on the slimy critters.
