I finally got my Nook!

This is a little off topic, but since it is about Nooks, thought I would ask here. I have a Kindle and I buy all of my books on the Amazon website and then once a week or so, I turn on my wi-fi for about a minute and walla, all my books get downloaded unto my Kindle automatically. I find it much easier to peruse the Amazon site on the computer then try to find things on the actual Kindle. Anyway, my friend just got a Nook so I was helping her put books on it and tried to do the same thing on the BN site. I see on her account that we bought the books, but they did not go automatically to the Nook. I am sure the wi-fi was on. Is there another step that needs to be done to get them from the BN site to the Nook? Thanks!!

Well...I have found my Nook to be a real BUDGET BUSTER!!!!!:rotfl2:
It is so convenient to "grab" a new book when I am done with the last. No waiting to go to the store. Nothing. I have also found a bunch of books/ series that I had not heard of but went and read because they were on sale for the week!!! I'm loving it but I have got to learn to download from the library!!!! This may, in fact, be my financial downfall!!!

I am right there with you. It seems the few free ones I have downloaded all tend to be short stories. The books that interest me are all the ones that cost money.

Not that I know of. I don't buy books on my nook either. I do it through bn.com My books are always there. I have 3g + wifi and my wifi is always turned off.

Tell her to click on the barnes and noble library on the nook and then click check for new content (I think that's what it says. its something similar to that). Maybe that's how it needs to update since she just has wifi.

Free Wednesdays??? I hadn't heard of that. I know about the free Fridays. Are they still doing Free Wednesdays? How do I find out about that? Oh, and I agree with you. I have tons of free books that I've downloaded. I have over 200 books and only bought 5 or 6.

They did some free Wednesdays during the holiday season.. I think there were maybe 3 of them.. Occasionally the Free Wednesday is Free Friday a few days early!

Update....I am enjoying my nook. I am on my second book. The first one I bought (undomestic goddess) and now I am reading a free one (courtesy of the website posted above). I think I like the convenience of the nook the most. I m defiantly glad I got it! Thanks for all of your help!!!

Did you get a Nook or a Nook Color?

I've been having an internal (and sometimes external;)) debate on if I'd be happy with an e-ink Nook. I love the Nook Color but I'm planning to buy an IPAD 2 when they come out in the spring which would be more for the family. I want something I can read without having to wait my turn for the IPAD.

If you have a Nook, there is a freebie today.. look on the Nook blog.

Thanks Cindy B!
If anybody is interested, I posted the link and a short synopsis below. If you want it, I'd get it now. Sometimes these free books are only available for a short while.

There are many wonderful and heartbreaking Holocaust survivor memoirs. In honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, I wanted to bring A Child al Confino—a unique, important book currently available for FREE download—to your attention.
The author, Eric Lamet, was only seven years old when the Nazis invaded Vienna, forcing him and his mother deep into the mountains of Mussolini's Italy. Like many exiled Jews in Europe, Lamet and his mother were left without a homeland to seek shelter in, and depended on the kindness of strangers to help them avoid capture. He recollects the horrors—but also the incredible friendships and moments of grace that sustained him—in this touching memoir, while revealing aspects of Holocaust experience that the history books often overlook.

NOOK owners:
go to “shop” and search for “Eric Lamet” to download this book.

I have to ask what is the nook blog? Also, how did you know about the freebie that's available now? I know how to look on the bn site for free or inexpensive books, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Jenn :goodvibes

I think he blogs daily. Usually just highlighting one book a day. Some are free, some cheap(.99). Some that are highlighting a specific event/day. Like, earlier in the week one of the books was in honor of "No Name Calling Week".

For those of you here that have one, you may not have heard. The Nook 3G is looking like its going to be phased out. Most of the budget is being pushed into advertising for the Color. For those that are thinking of getting one, it might be good to hold off and wait to see what tweeks are pushed with the rumored revamp.

My post count is only at 8, so I can't stick in the link, but you can Google 'Nook discontinued' to see the story.

It makes sense. 3G is a pretty technogeek feature, and technogeeks are more likely to put technology over other factors, and so they're likely choosing the Kindle over the Nook in the first place. ::yes::

I got the nook. We already have an iPad but I don't like reading for a long time on the backlit screen. I do like the iPad though, just not for reading books.

Nookdeals.blogspot.com also.

Nookdeals.blogspot.com also.
That is not the official barnes and noble nook blog. The official B & N is called unbound. Nookdeals is an independent blog.

Once you get onto Unbound, search for Free Promo Nook book selection and you will find a 20 page thread on all free books. The most recent selections are in the back. What I like about this thread (on Unbound) is that is combines all other blogs together in one spot. I found myself looking at some many different blogs (Nookdeals, Books on the Knob, etc) and found so much info repeated. On this unbound thread, it is all in ONE PLACE. It makes it so much easier--

You are thinking of the Bookclub blog, go to Unbound and type free promo Nookbook. (two different things) Book club is the some free some paid books and the Unbound thread is all free books all the time.

You can also friend Nook on Facebook. They will also alert you of the Freebies.

Todays Free Friday selection, is a recycle of the Free Friday of April 7, 2010.

As forr a previous poster, I looked up the speculation that Nook 3g will be disontinued. As with the internet, many of the links were not very credible, so I went to CNET.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-20029409-1.html The link states that is is speculated that the Nook 3g may be discontinued due to a cryptic message of "lack of bulk orders"

I love my 3g wifi/ I didn't need the color bells and whistles and it works well for what I need it to do. Nook color is a fun thing in theory, but not very practical for my use. I love my long battery life.
