But I did pick up a little gem on Ebay a few hours ago.

One Nikkor 50mm f1.2 AIS

Fast f1.2 9-Blade Aperture and smooth manual focus goodness. I can't wait until it gets here.

Now you are talking my generation of lens. I still have the 55mm macro that I still love. Also a 24mm. Seeing that AIS tab on the lens made me very nostalgic and OLD!

I am sure you will love it! I bet with the advent of the D3 and D700 full frame you will see more willing to try out the older lens!

Probably too since in November I ordered the 24-70/2.8 which ate up my hobby budget for a few months. (But I am glad I did- that lens is $250 more now! )

I got the 105/2.8 AIS Macro last year and it hardly left my camera for months. I was instantly impressed with the build and feel of the lens. The focus ring is so smooth- nothing like trying to manually focus an AFD or AFS lens.

Gezzz... I fell off too, but only ordered an extension strap for my Op-Tech strap...

Oh wait, I did order the Sigma 10-20mm (again) a few weeks back once I knew my 18-135 was fixed.

I've been thinking about getting some older AIS lenses, but haven't looked around to much.

Welcome to the F1.2 club! I recently got an NOS Cosina 55mm F1.2 which is actually quite sharp at F1.2, it's a nice lens - manual focus, 9 blades, etc.

Nailing focus at F1.2 on a moving target (like my son!) is a challenge though! The Katz Eye focusing screen helps, I think, but it's still tricky. You can do some pretty neat stuff with it, it's fun to be able to throw just about any background into total bokeh.

The big question - how have you not picked up a Zenitar 16mm yet?

LOL- I keep looking at them- along with a few other options for an FX Fisheye like an older Nikon or used Sigma 16. One day I will find a bargain- until then I will just keep using my broken 10.5 in DX mode.
