I feel so guilty

DH got some school related news yesterday that put him in a bad mood so we went out to dinner to get his mind off things. Plus, we always said we'd give ourselves one "free" meal a week during our diet and it's been a week so we thought this was good timing. We went to a mexican restaurant since that's DH's fav. I had chips and salsa, regular coke, fajitas, and we even ordered dessert (didn't eat it all) because we had a free coupon for it. I feel so guilty...even though it was our free meal. :(

Yesterday morning I was at 169 and this morning I'm at 172! :( :( I know you're not really supposed to weigh yourself every day, but I do it every morning because if I lose I get excited and if I gain or stay the same it gives me more motivation.

Today I plan on eating a little less....just salad for lunch and no snack bars during the day (diet allows two "diet" bars a day). I also plan on doing extra exercising tonight. I just feel so guilty. I guess it's because I'm SO anxious to fit in my clothes again. I know it'll take time..but it's so darn hard to wait!

Thanks for listening.

UPDATE: Just got on the scale again and it's at 170...that sounds more right. I couldn't believe I would have gained 3 pounds just from eating mexican one night!

Don't beat yourself up, it's ok! I also have a free night or what I call a "cheat night" which is something I need. I can't totally deprive myself of foods (pizza/french fries, etc.) I like b/c I'll crave it more then OD on them ;). I think it's ok to forget about your diet for a meal or a night.

You said you had salsa, big deal! I don't know what diet you are following, but on WW salsa is 0 points so you didn't do too bad there;) in my book. You are still aware of what you are eating and willing to do a good job today with diet and exercise. Relax, don't worry and you will lose that weight and fit into those clothes again. Good luck today. :D

I did the exact same thing last night! Though I didn't have desert. I have learned over many "morning after mexican" trips to the scales, that Mexican food, which is loaded with salt, causes bloat. The only way to fix this is not weigh yourself the next day! Even if it is my weigh in day, I won't do it. Though I know it's just water, I can't handle the shock of how much I've "gained."
Glad to hear things are leveling off. Don't feel guilty either. Just another learning experience. It is going to help you if you get to know how your body handles certain foods.::yes::

Keep the Faith!

Don't feel guilty--it's fine to have a cheat night, and it's not at unusual to have a temporary gain, especially when you've had a lot of salt. You're doing the right thing today--you're getting back on program and exercising--I bet you'll be presently surprised when you get back on the scale! Sometimes the hardest thing to do is NOT beat yourself up when you go "off track" for a day--you can feel guilty and frustrated, which can lead to giving up (I've been there so many times)! You are doing so well, and don't let just one big meal discourage you! Keep up the GREAT WORK!!!::yes::

Don't worry - I'm guessing it's all water weight. The best way to get rid of water weight - drink water until your eyeballs feel like they're floating.....:teeth: !

Having a higher calorie / higher carb day now and then can actually boost your metabolism and help you lose more over the long term. You may have actually done something GOOD for you last night!! :sunny:

Hopefully that water weight will disappear soon!

I know just how you feel. Last night was my free meal of the week, too!

My hubby & I unexpectedly went out of town the last 2 days, so when we decided to eat at the Cheesecake Factory yesterday, I knew it would be a great day for my free meal. I really enjoyed their Strawberry Shortcake for dessert - hubby & I shared it and had a great time. I was up a little this morning, too - but I know by jumping right back on plan everything will work out in the end. After feeling guilty so many times after "cheating," I've decided this year to enjoy one meal a week with my hubby at a restaurant together. It makes it feel like less of a diet, and more of a new way of life being healthy together. Hope this helps - good luck!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

Another WISHer who incorporates a free day in to her plan. DH and I take one day off a week where we eat what we want for dinner and also have a snack later in the evening. We don't go NUTS  anymore but we TRY not to feel guilty. Once your plan is part of your way of life it's hard to not feel guilty sometimes but I think a free day helps you keep your focus the rest 6 days of the week. When I start craving something I know I just have to hold out until my free day and I can have it. Because of that I can be good  the rest of the week. Don't beat yourself up over this - your making progress and you'll continue to make progress and your free meal just might help! :)

Thanks so much everyone! :) I know that DH and I need these free days to keep us sane! LOL! I'm just SO ready to fit in my clothes again...I guess that's why I feel so guilty.

Y'all are so great! Thanks again!!

cinmell....I know the salsa isn't that big of a deal, but I think the big salty chips I dipped in the salsa over and over and over and over again my cause a problem. ;) and over and over and over....have I mentioned that I LOVE chips and salsa? LOL!
