Hello everyone :goodvibes

Logged into my Barclaycard account this morning to check as i do every couple of days and got the shock of my life. A pending transaction for £528.07 :scared1:

Immediately i rang Barclaycard who cancelled the card and said that i have to phone back on the 17th to dispute the transaction, they can't do anything until then as it is still pending. She could tell me it was for 2 transactions, one for £36 for Easyjet and the other £491.07 a travel company.

The woman didn't seem too worried about my concerns and said that they will look into it once it has been disputed to see if i can get my money back.

I actually feel quite sick, nothing like this has ever happened to me before on a credit card so i have no idea how long it takes to sort out. What happens once the £528.07 becomes an actual transaction? will i have to pay it when my bill arrives in a few days? i cannot afford to pay it outright.

Any advice appreciated.

I once had my card cloned and someone bought over £2000 pounds worth of furniture. Card replaced after disputed amount - didn't have to pay.

Don't worry :goodvibes once you ring and dispute the charge it will be taken off your account. You will only have to pay for what you spent.

Hope it's resolved quickly :goodvibes:goodvibes

Don't worry:hug: This has happened to me at least 3 or 4 times, including a few months back when £500 was taken from my current account by someone using my debit card details.

It is such a horrible feeling and I completely sympathise with how you feel, but you won't have to pay it. The worst I had to do was maintain minimum payments until the fraud was confirmed, but I was refunded in full, including interest. It will get sorted fairly quickly I am sure. Sending you lots of best wishes and :wizard::wizard::wizard::wizard:

If you report it as an 'unknown' transaction to you, they'll not expect you to pay it when your usual statement comes through.

I understand how you feel though, it does make you feel sick, it's not nice knowing others have used your details to try and it seems, go on holiday.

I hope they sort it for you very soon!

wow that sucks :goodvibes

whoever has done it cannot be that bright though, you put name (as per your passport) in when booking flights.

I know it's easy for us to say 'don't worry' but at least you caught it early

my parents' credit card got cloned (we think in the gatwick hilton as the employee took the card away from them, out of their sight) and while they were away on holiday over £5000 was spent on it. They didn't realise until the bill came in afterwards, apparently whoever it was had sent a request for a new card to be sent to a PO box address down in England and they got it. Where's the security there? They had to do the minimum payments while it was investigated but it was all solved and they did get their money back.

Apparently it's happening more and more nowadays

One good thing you can take from this is that you check your bank regularly so ppicked it up in good time (hopefully they can trace the transaction back and find out who has done this)
I have read somewhere recently that more and more banks are disputing - sometimes refusing - to pay claims if they check back on your banking history and can prove that you haven't checked your balance online, over the phone or via a cashpoint.
Their argument is that as a customer you have to bear some of the responsibility to ensure your account isn't showing any unusual activity, and if you haven't checked your balance in, say, 7 days - during which time a couple of grand could have been withdrawn - you aren't doing your bit.

Thankfully you check your account and noticed it straightaway. I check mine online every couple days too. Hopefully you get it sorted out soon.:goodvibes

This is exactly why i tend to use my credit card for everything - it gives these people less chance of getting hold of my current account details.

The good thing with a credit card is like others have said it would go down as a disputed transaction and you wont have to pay. Whereas if its your debit card the money would have already come out and can sometimes take months to get back.

Its good that you check every day or few days - means you spot things early :) i feel sorry for people who dont use online banking and just check a statement when it comes through the post.

I had the exact same thing happen last year in August. I phoned immediately and while I was on the phone to the card company, can you believe, another attempt was made during the phone call which obviously they blocked. The first transaction for $500 (yes, made in US$) was sent to fraud investigation and the disputes department. I had to keep phoning every day and eventually it was sorted. I didn't have to pay. But I didn't just feel sick - I was actually being sick I got myself into such a state.

Someone cloned ours in Orlando a few years ago. Luckily we had told the bank our travel dates before we left and they didn't start using the cloned card till we left so Barclaycard stopped the transactions before too much damage was done (about $500) we got it sorted with no problems at all. They just asked a few questions and that was it. Everything was refunded and we never heard another thing. I'm sure it will be fine

That's how i feel now, didn't sleep at all and my stomach is in knots. I am a worrier anyway so this has really done me no favours.
Everyone has said not to worry and that if the fraudulent transactions were done online then i will not have to pay.

One of them hit my account this morning £491.01 for lowcostholidays. I have disputed it and have been told just to deduct that amount from my statement (which was generated yesteday and it is one there:headache:) and pay the remainder.

I also found out it was a Telephone/mail order transaction, it wasn't done online so now i am getting myself in a state incase the same rules don't apply to when someone uses your card to buy stuff online.
I don't want to ring Barclaycard as i am too scared i will come off the phone feeling worse. :sad2:

try not to worry too much - as with everybody else here, I've had mine done recently as well...

The bank spotted it and immediately cancelled my card (first I knew about it was when I tried to make a payment a couldn't - phoned the bank and they explained they'd cancelled the card as it had been cloned).

Luckily for me, nothing actually hit my account beyond pre-authorisation, but even with yours where it has, just dispute all the values and you'll be fine. It might take a little while to sort out, but you'll get there in the end :thumbsup2

Thanks  It's just so annoying.
Just been checking through all my Barclaycard statements and i have actually used my credit card to book an Easyjet flight in the past, back in October 2009. Probably just a complete fluke but it makes you think doesn't it.
I'm going to be scared to use my new one when it comes.

Wow, that must have been a shock Poppy . I need to check my balance more often :scared1:.

Same thing happened to my Dad and we think an employee at the JW Marriott Orlando must have stolen his details as money was being taken out of his account in dollars not long after we stayed there. He was reimbursed so hopefully you will be fine too.

Poppy - I'm sorry that this has happened to you, I know it's easier said than done not to worry, but it will be ok. You check your balance regularly from what you have said so I don't think there will be any doubt with BC that you are doing your bit.

 Poor you! We also had it done to us last year in US$ they took $15 and Tesco credit card flagged it as being a strange transaction as we always tell them when we are going away, they said that sometimes the fraudsters take a small amount to see if they can get away with it and they then go in for the big lump. Luckily we caught it and they stopped our card straight away, it was difficult for me though I was in the cash and carry buying stuff for the business and had to spend about 40 mins on the phone to tesco answering every security question under the sun! lol

Surely they will be really easy to catch as they will have used their real names for travel? I am confused a tad about how omeone can be so stupid! :confused3

Just a quick question.

Does anyone here have a Barclaycard and ever had to get a new card.

I just got a text message from them, from this number 62277, saying my new card is on it's way and to please call the number shown on the sticker of the new card to confirm safe receipt. :confused3
I know i have my mobile number logged with them but i have never heard of them sending out text messages.

not with barclaycard but when my visa fraud happened a few months ago the royal bank of scotland kept me updated with text messages, perhaps you can find a phone number yourself and call just to clarify it came from them

It seems like a lot of banks and various other places have taken to using text and email as well as phone calls where they never did before. I think it is quite silly of them. I would phone them on the number on the back of your card (if you still have the old one) or on your statements so that you know it is a genuine number, then ask someone to verify that this is the correct information they have given you and get them to transfer your call.
