I really do feel a little silly asking these questions but I have never flown before and I don't know a thing about it.

What do you wear when you fly? Please don't laugh. :lmao: I really don't know what you are supposed to wear. Do you get dressed up and wear nice clothes or do you just dress casually... jeans etc...?

Also, can I take my purse and a carry on or does my purse count as my carry on?

I will be flying SW if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Dress in what makes you comfortable, bearing in mind the weather where you leave, the weather where you arrive & the fact that many people find planes a little cool (I don't). Your purse is not considered a carry on.

I usually wear business professional or at the very least nice business casual. But I am getting to be more and more the minority. Until a few years ago, my company required that we fly in suits. Now we have a bit more leeway, but I am old school and we were always required to dress in our best as a child when flying. Now it's usually a skirt and jacket etc.

Others will tell you to dress for comfort - I have seen anything as casual as pyjamas (but won't tell you what I think of that)

A purse counts as one of your carry on items for most airlines; Air Canada does not count it, but that is rare.

Wear what makes you feel comfortable. People these days are very casual when flying. Also, keep in mind that you will need to take off your shoes when going through security. Slip-ons are much easier.

You can carry a purse and a carry-on. They will go throught the x-ray machine in security and you can't have any liquids. Check the SW site for a list of all the do's and don'ts.

Well, if you have a wayback machine and travel to 1950, you'll need to dress up for your flight. Suits and ties for the men, white gloves for the ladies. :)

But this being 2007, wear whatever is comfortable. In particular, wear comfortable shoes. One thing you want to think about is temperature. It's usually a bit cool on most flights while you are in the air. But in the summer, it can get pretty hot while waiting on the ground for the flight to take off. Always good to have an extra layer handy to take on/off.

You get one carry-on + a purse.

Most definitely wear comfortable shoes, I forgot to mention that - most people will find that their feet swell during the flight so tight shoes are out of the question.

Comfortable clothing is always a good idea... but when deciding what to wear, always take into consideration the TSA checkpoint. (ie, avoid clothing that might have metalic buttons that might trigger the metal detector)

for me the temp seems to change while flying i might be cold for part of it then hot. i always dress for comfort. i dont think this is a silly question at all by the way. i was asking the same thing before i flew for the first time.

As a young adult, my mother dressed up when she traveled. Whenever we fly now, we always have to have something 'special' to wear when we fly. I always laugh at her when we go shopping for our 'travel clothes'. :rotfl:

LOL only thing I worry about is how can I afford to go on this trip and where are my park tickets!!!!

I wear a t-shirt and khakis and a light sweater, something I can take off and tie around my waist if I get hot. When I travel in the winter, I make sure to leave room in my suitcase for my winter coat because I'll take it off as soon as I get in the airport and stick it in my luggage to be checked.
I usually rock a "fanny pack" so I have my hands free to keep my kids from running away. And ditto on the slip on shoes. I swallowed my pride and wore bright blue Crocs on my last trip and my feet never felt so good!!!
