Does anyone else skip water rides? I'm not talking Splash Mountain, I'm talking Kali River, and Popeyes Barge rafts at IOA. I consider Splash to have more theming than wetness. But Kali & the Popeye ride just do not appeal to me. Are they worth going on for theming or do you mostly just get soaked? I have been on both but don't really recall.

I'm mostly concerned about Kali. We have limited time at AK and it just seems like we might not want to spend it soaked next week.

What do you think?

Those are 2 rides that I avoid for the exact same reason. Splash is not a big deal, even sitting in a puddle of water, but will not do Kali again. Did it twice and don't enjoy walking around the park dripping most of the day.

I'm with you! Just can't stand the getting DRENCHED thing.
My DH and DD usually ride Kali while I wait or shop.
I've been on it a number of times, but it just isn't FUN to me.

However, I love Splash Mtn!:Pinkbounc But unless you sit on the right side of the log and get stuck at that waterfall or get hit with the over-spray of the boat behind you....you really don't get soaked.
Kali doesn't have the great theming of the other rides.......it is simply a "get drenched" ride.

I've never been to IOA, so could not say about Popeye.....

Thanks! Popeye is similiar to Kali (raft river ride) except with Popeye figures all over the place.

I think we might skip them both. Unless it gets really hot and we need to cool down. I just don't see getting soaked as fun.

I rode Kali twice, both times with a poncho and didn't get real wet. Tuck your feet under the seat, there's a bar underneath.

Did we ever get drenched on Popeye's. Yikes! But we were dressed for it and I must mention that my 4yo demanded that we stay on it and we ended up riding it 7 times in a row. His teeth were chattering on the first time around, but he just loved that ride. He wanted to ride it "100 times" and when I objected he instead requested "24 times". LOL

We had the best time watching people in jeans get on it and get wet. hehehe I would not ride it even once if I didn't want to get wet and if I was not dressed for it.

When we were at AK we walked right by Kali and Jake didn't know what he was missing. :teeth:

T&B

The past few years when we have gone in warm months (August or September), we have always skipped Kali, for that very reason...I hate being wet. Somehow on our last trip IN DECEMBER(65 degrees), my DH convinced me to do it. I think it was because the kids agreed and they dont usually do any bigger rides so I was so excited I had to go. Well DH and the boys stayed totally dry...I on the other hand got wet...but just a little so it wasnt so bad. However, the couple next to me got completely soaked, twice!

I'll do Kali if three conditions are met
1.Its Warm - Hot outside
2. Its the last ride of the day at that park
3. We are going back to the room afterwards.

For some reason I seem to always be on the bottom of that silly hill. Can you say D R I P P I N G! :D
:sunny: :wave2:

Hi. I did what another poster did and wore my poncho. I really felt stupid, but my kids love the ride and I hate being wet. It worked great. Try it!

I skip Kali. I use the excuse that someone has to hold the cameras. My kids admit that it's not that exciting. Not worth getting drenched to me!

On the other hand, I wouldn't miss Splash Mountain for anything!

We always do the rides that get you drenched. That's my 10year olds fav part

We buy the cheap ponchos (2 for $1) at the dollar tree. We wear them on the ride and then either give them to people still in line or throw them away. We did the walking around soaked thing a couple of times before we tried the ponchos!! I really love Kali River rapids so the ponchos work great. :D

We love going on Kali, Splash Mountain and the Popeye ride at IOA. For Kali, we take a change of clothes, we normally go on it first thing and then change clothes so we aren't walking around soaked.

Have fun!!

This is the best idea. We give the ponchos to others standing in line as we leave.

Kali we either skip if it's a cold day or leave it for the very last thing we do...yes, we've gotten wet on this ride.

Splash - well, I've never really gotten DRENCHED...just "got stuck in the rain" wet.

I've never been on the Popeye ride (it was closed when we went last year) but we DID go on Dudley Do-Rights Ripsaw Falls...holy crap. That's the biggest flume ride I've ever been on...and we got DRENCHED. I mean DRENCHED!!!

The best part about Dudley - is that there is a bridge where the logs go under the walkway...and there are these water cannons there that the people can put quarters into to get you more wet. We got SOAKED by someone...too funny. So of course, we had to try...hubby and I must have pumped $10 worth of quarters into that thing soaking other people - too funny! Thank god it was a 90 degree day! :)

To ride just for the theming, I would say that Kali is not worth it. It is a rather short ride if you wait in line for a while. Bluto's is great in the really warm weather, but you have to be dressed for it. Make sure that you have quick drying shorts and a dry shirt if you plan on riding. The same goes for Ripsaw Falls. For some reason we got completely drenched on that ride the last couple of times. What we do is grab a locker at Dueling Dragons, stoe anything that we do not want to get wet. We then use our FOTL key and fastpasses on Bluto's and Ripsaw Falls and Jurassic Park. Then, you can dry off or change if you wish and not be soaking wet all day. You also don't have to worry about your stuff getting wet, either. We usually totally skip Kali since we always do AK on the last day and leave directly from the park to go to the airport.

We usually ride Kali either last ride and leave the park or.....a couple of times after leaving Typhoon Lagoon we went into AK just to ride Kali on the way back to the room. Its a blast when you don't have to walk around soaked afterwards!! (We have PAP's and being able to pop into any park like that is one of the many benefits of these passes!!)

kali is fun and if you're sitting on the right side of the raft you may not even get wet. this is not what happened to me. i got so completely soaked that i had to buy a new t-shirt just to feel decent. i'm still going on it this year but i'm wearing my little yellow wdw poncho.

Does anyone wear their swimming suits on this Kali? Do you suggest not wearing tennis shoes?
Ponchos seems like a good idea.

I brought my kids bathing suits along and they changed before the ride, including their shoes (they wore flipflops). DH and I wore ponchos and tucked them under our behinds good.... we both also brought lt weight sandals to wear on the ride. The backpack was heavy that day, but it was better than being wet all day!!............P
