I don't understand the difference...

Hello!

The rates of the holiday season in 2004 for a value resort is 114$. When I ask a quote on the WDW internet page for a stay of 11 nights beginning December 27th, I get an average of 127$ a night before taxes.
That would mean that holiday season would last until January 7th and that next year prices would be much higher since it's suppose to be 114$ for the days in 2004.

I don't get it. Could somebody explain?

Where did you get the amount of $114 for holiday season? I would guess that the rate is actually $127 per ngiht, since your rate is based on your first night stay. But there is hope. The last couple of years there have been discount codes available for at least part of that time period that you will be there. All you have to do is split your reservation into two separate ones. On the day the rates drop, start a second reservation and you will receive the rest of your stay at the much lower rate. Yes, you will have to check out and then check back in again, but we have never had to change rooms. Just make sure they know when you check in that you will be continuing on a separate reservation. They will tie the two together and you should have no problems! Hope that helps!

It looks as though the $127.00 may be the rate for a preferred room. When you do the pricing on the website it sometimes brings up the better view, rather than a standard view. I know I have been shocked looking at rates only to find that the rate was for a waterview, king bed room rather than a standard view at the moderates.
When you go to the page where you are given the rates you can click on the edit button and then there is a drop down that lets you choose between a standard view and a preferred view.

I HATE that new booking engine!

There's a question asking if you'd be interested in concierge services. I always leave it unchecked, and they STILL give you a quote for the most expensive concierge view.

When you request a quote, and it comes up with the price, look at the bottom of the area with the cost details. There should be a button that says View/Edit Details. Click that. When the new window comes up, switch your room type to standard view, and then click Update This Offer, and it should give you the accurate price.

I also don't care for the new reservations system they have. It seems to take forever to get a quote on the resort/room type you're actually interested in, since many times that's not what they give you the first time! What would have been nice was if they had set it up to accept discount codes when available!

The rate you pay for your trip is based on your check-in date - if your trip spans resort seasons, you will end up paying the higher holiday rate for the January dates.

As IndyDisneyFan said, you should make 2 reservations to save money. There is an article on Mousesavers about this too.

The 127$ average I get is for a standard room. For preferred, it's 140$.

I asked a quote from Dreams Unlimited. We'll see if they do better...

You need to book a separate reservation starting 1/1/05 to get the lower rate for the value season dates.

I checked in on 12/27/03 last year and paid $114 or $127.68 per night with tax at Pop Century standard view room. I already had my air fare so when the codes came out with some good discounts thru 12/26/03, I decided to keep my airfare and bite the bullet and pay the rack rate. I was not disappointed. I loved Pop Century and we checked out 1/1/04.
There is no guarantee that codes will come out again for Christmas week.

It will charge you extra for each additional adult over 2 adults.

And....the $114 per night listed on Disney's site under "Rates" DOES NOT include tax. The rate you get when you quote a package DOES have the taxes included already.

I think Pop Century is 11.5% tax....and the All Stars are 12% tax for whatever reason.

So....$114 x 11.5% Tax = $13.11 ..... Gives you a total of $127.11 per night for Pop Century.

So.... $114 x 12% Tax = $13.68 .... Give you a total of $127.68 per night for the All Star Resorts.

I still don't get it.

An example:

If you check in on 12/30 for 7 nights, and the rate for the day you check in is $200 a night, you will pay $200 a night for ALL 7 nights, UNLESS you make 2 separate reservations.

Disney will not automatically adjust the rate midway thru your stay, nor will they automatically make 2 separate reservations for you.

This can also work in your favor, if you are checking in during a value season and the rates go up during your stay.

One other thing, if you make two reservations, they will not guarantee that you will not have change rooms. You will have to check out when the first reservation ends, and then check back in for the new reservation. We are doing that for our trip. The first night is at peak rate, and the rest of the trip is at the regular season rate, with the disney visa discount. If I hadn't known about making two reservations, I would have been paying almost 150 an night more for the room. It may be a bit of a pain to have to go check out, but certainly worth the money.

I agree I don't like the new system either.... I guess Disney is just hoping they can rope unsuspecting travelers (not seasoned DISer like us ) into booking very expensive rooms and packages.
