DisneyLand is making me sad before I even get there! Why do they insist on telling me that they are not a vacation destination.

They tell me you are only allowed to stay for 5 days, if you want more get a annual pass! We cater to locals. Don't like it? Go to Disney World

They tell me we do not care that you have went out of your way to visit us. We do not care it has cost you an arm and a leg to get here. We shut down rides for rehabs weeks in advance. We cater to locals! Don't like it? Go to Disney World.

Who is telling me this you ask. Disneyland is through the mouths of their employees, by the business practices they have, by the policies that they have implemented.

Here we go...

Yep!

I will enlighten you with this little gem of info...For DL, they only allow purchase of 5 day PH when you purchase through WDTC or a third party.
Once you get to the parks, you can add days at the ticket booths for a minimal amount of $. Check out this thread:

As far as refurbs go....Sure it may be a disappointment that a ride is not available, but it should not ruin your trip.

The one thing I don't get is why they don't turn this into a revenue-making opportunity for their hotels there. The hotels face serious competition from cheaper and equally close hotels/motels. So why not say 5 day pass for everyone else BUT if you are a DLR hotel guest (so PPH, GCH or DLH), you can go to the concierge at the end of the 5 day ticket and add days onto your ticket up to X more days equal to the duration of your hotel stay? Seriously, relatively simple and could serve to boost demand for the DLR hotels.

Wow, it sounds like you need to switch and go somewhere else...

Sounds like Tino's wife is planning a trip!

Not sure why you are upset with them shutting a ride down for rehab, they need some TLC. Yes, Indy is going down for a while. Not because you are planning a trip, but because the ride is in dire need of some TLC.

They do not advertise their tickets going beyond 5 days because.... well.... people bought 6 day tickets, used 3 and sold 3... You can still do it, you just have to go to the ticket booth and ask to upgrade.

I'm sorry you are having such a rough day, I hope it improves.

Ok so my mini vent came out a little strong. I did not understand all the popcorn and sighs. Guess it is a topic that hits these boards a lot.:rotfl: Did not know that.
I certainly do not want to go to Disney World, been there done that, however I perhaps I am perplexed at Disneylands business modules.
I really like the idea of the pp where when you stay on property you can get more days. It just seems strange to me is all and yes I was venting cause I really wanted to ride INDY dag nabbit! LOL

I found it odd that when I tried to book a 6 day trip to Disneyland via Costco Travel it would not let me. When I changed the parameters to 5 days it returned results. However, when I chose 6 days via Disney's official web site it returned options for all three hotels.

I guess I agree with the original poster in the sense that it seems weird that Disneyland would refuse bookings based on length of stay from 3rd party agencies. I don't know. :confused3

I feel your Indy pain:) I usually go with just my and my kids. I have no one to swap with cause my oldest is to young to watch my youngest but old enough to ride solo as long as I'm at the exit. This upcoming trip I'm bringing another adult to swap with. And then I hear Indy is down.:( I know why and I agree it needs some major love from what I've been hearing, but still. . .

As far as catering to locals, they just bumped up the AP prices 30%. So not very nice to us either. You really do not need the same time for a Disneyland vacations as you would for a WDW stay.

When you open a post, with... "DL is making me sad, before I even get there".. and you only have 19 posts, some of us may think you are possibly a person trying to get a rise out of us, over our Home Park, on our board...
We are very protective of Walts park.
Hope you have a wonderful trip, if you decide to come west.

Sorry, if I offended.

OMG, I snorted when I read the bit about Tino's wife! :rotfl2:

OP, I promise that Disney is not trying to make you sad on purpose. They do things their own way and judging by the number of people at the parks, they do pretty well.

Sometimes I think the internet causes us more pain, lol. When I started going to Disneyland there was no checking the calendar, planning, itineraries, etc. We loaded up the car and went there. Yes, sometimes we got there and a ride was down, but it was a bummer for half a second until we rode something else. We were at Disneyland, so you couldn't really be sad that long. Now we have weeks and months to obsess over things and be sad when rides go down before we ever arrive.

Now it seems Disney can't win. Either they post the refurb schedule months in advance and everyone complains, or they post it weeks in advance and guess what? Everyone complains. :confused3

The OP is poetic; I have to give her that. :thumbsup2
I can totally hear this at a coffee house with string bass, snare brushes, and a muted trumpet in the background. ;)

^^^ THIS!

Perfectly said, kylie! :thumbsup2

We are absolutely protective of Walt's park!

OP, I understand your frustration. Boy, howdy, do I!

I just got back from a trip to DL and while it was amazing in many ways, it was frustrating to me in many ways. Mostly the ways they "do things" there. And yes, I compared it to the way WDW does business because that's what I know so well. I was not happy at times :sad2: (the exception being the GCH- no complaints there at all! :thumbsup2)

I actually spent a bit of time and energy being annoyed at the park. their CMs, their policies, their rides breaking down... (blah... I was negative Nancy at Disneyland! :worried:) and had to put it into perspective.

Before the DL'ers get ruffled.... there's a magical ending, of course! :hippie:

Actually, had it put into perspective for mewhen I was approached by a CM offering a ride on Walt's fire engine down Main Street to the castle. He told me this was the very car Walt would drive, and asked my son to ring the bell as loud as he could all the way down the street. He was an old timer and spoke about the history and pointed out some things about the castle as we got closer...I was in heaven.

Finally- at that moment- I realized how special and magical the park could be. You cannot get that anywhere else, my friend!

Be calm, go to Disneyland, and enjoy it for what it stood for and still stands for. Don't sweat the small stuff, like a PP mentioned. It isn't worth missing out on the awesomeness. There is a whole LAND of awesome to experience.

And as a side note--- I had FP for Indy 3 of the 4 days I was there. I rode it ZERO times due to circumstances (paid the FP forward to others though) I was totally sad about that, but STILL had a magical time even without Indy. You will too!
