What a nice place to be!!!
Ok.....I have 100 pounds to loose:(

I tried Atkins because I thought if I could just drop something on the scale a little fast I would stick with it.
Sorry the 2 pounds at a time way just gets me discouraged.
I stayed on Atkins 8 days....
I know I gave up a little soon but I didnt loose anything in that time.
I was hungry. How can all of you stay on it......
The thought of eating another egg or meat for breakfast was making me sick.
Is there some secret I dont know about?????

Any help would be great:D

Thanks

For me it is a way of life...I have no choice, as it is making me healthier all the way around. I am off BP meds, and now a lower dose of meds for arthritis.

I am affected highly by carbs. I used to eat very little, but always foods high in carbs. Tried the low fat diet...nothing worked. On Atkins I eat meat, salads, veggies, eggs, cheese, there are desserts you can make that taste just like the real thing. I can even go to Starbucks...Yum!!!!

I think outside the box...lol. I have leftovers from dinner for breakfast. I have eggs...mock danish(only once in a long while) I have sausages with cheese....for lunch tuna w/mayo on cucumbers, chicken caesar salad, shrimp coctail, leftovers, taco salad w/o the taco...

Dinner fried chicken, all meats on the grill, pot roast, roast pork..green veggies, salad...there is an endless variety of food...just have to be creative... :)

By the way, I eat under 10 carbs a day...and sometimes it is hard to get to that ;) and I have gone from a size 22 to a size 6 :)

Have I told you lately, glo, that you are my hero? Honest, it's true :)

Hi candylover. It's good to see you here on WISH. I had at least 100 pounds to lose when I started Atkins. Now I have about 64 pounds to lose.

I'm surprised to hear that you were hungry after 8 days. Did you check to see if you were in ketosis? I was hungry for the first three or four days and then my appetite left completely. It's still gone. I forget to eat.

Were you by any chance following a low fat or calorie restrictive regime before you started Atkins? That will slow your losing down considerably.

What did you eat during the average day? To lose the fastest you need to try very hard to make fat at least 70% of your daily intake. Always eat protein with fat or you will lose very slowly.

You have to read labels very carefully. It's amazing what they sneak sugar or corn syrup into these days. My husband bought some salami today, he thought it was 0 carb but it was 1 carb/slice. I read the label and it contained corn syrup. You just have to watch carefully for things like that.

Have you read the Atkins book? He explains the different things that can slow or stall you losing. It's helpful to read the book.

Did you measure yourself before you began? I have gone a entire month without losing one ounce but I lost over 16 inches and as long as I'm getting smaller, I don't care how much I weigh. Sometimes when you aren't losing pounds on the Atkins plan you are losing inches.

My husband and I follow Atkins for the improvements to his blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and triglycerides. He thinks of the weight loss as a bonus.

I used to get so frustrated because it just seemed so slow to lose just one or two pounds a week. It took me 15 years to gain all of this weight and I wanted it off in a month or two. It just doesn't work that way, sadly :(

Think of it this way. If you lose 2 pounds per week that is 104 pounds in one year. That sounds pretty good to me.

I'll send you a private message and tell you the foods that I eat and never get bored with, okay?

Will you be taking the WISH challenge and joining our support group here? I sure hope so.

I don't know why I talk so much, you will have to forgive me. I just wanted to tell you that Atkins isn't the plan for everyone. There are lots of wonderful eating plans out there, find the one that is a perfect fit for you and you will reach your goal easily :)

Well nativetxn said it all for me ;) lol! Seriously though, I love Atkins...it is my new way of eating and honestly I have only had two days in a month that I was hungry, but it was also TOM, so that could explain it! LOL

I do like glo does and usually eat leftovers for breakfast...and of course, I adore cucumbers with spreadable cheese now, so I eat those all the time! I honestly never feel deprived or hungry with Atkins...there is alot of things to eat and like glo said, you just have to be creative! :)

I do hope that whatever plan you decide on, you will stay and join us on this board! You will find lots of support and friendly people here!!:)

Candylover... please don't get discouraged... no matter what plan works for you. In all honesty, 2 pounds in 8 days is great!!! If you are still interested in Atkins, check out this website:

www.lowcarbfriends.com

There is a ton of information for newbies, tips, and a zillion recipes so you won't get caught in a rut. Good luck for whatever you choose!!!

Thank you so very much!
All of you.
It feels so good to read all you stories and helpful hints.
I did read the book.
I think one of the problems is the "old" school of thought.
"FAT IS BAD"
It scares me:eek:
You are right, I am going to try it starting Monday.
After all today is Mothers Day and my family is making a pasta dinner!!!! AHhhhhhhhhhhh.
Did anyone use the Atkins products????
I saw they make a bread?????
Muffin mix?????
It might help if I could find those types of things.
Also, what a great idea to eat dinner leftovers for breakfast:crazy:
Hey, I'll try that.
What a great day.
I feel a little lift. I think I can do this.
I was even visited by the Tag Fairy:teeth:

Thanks so much.

www.atkinscenter.com and www.netrition.com are two good online sites to order low carb foods.

You won't be eating those until you finish your induction, though.

The Atkins banana nut muffins are just wonderful, but it is difficult to stop with just one.

There are all kinds of low carb treats available but you really should spend at least two weeks on induction before you try to add them to your diet. Sometimes they can stall and/or stop your loss.

If you would like to take the WISH challenge you can post to THIS. That way I won't leave you off our roster (I hate when I do that).

If you would like to add the WISH member clipart to your signature there is a very helpful post telling you how to do that RIGHT HERE.

We all begin with a zero loss the day we take the challenge, no matter how much we lost before taking the challenge, then each time we lose five pounds we get a new clipart. The WISH clipart is exempt from clipart limits, which is great and it's just fun and motivational. A little something extra to aim for while we are getting healthy.

I'm glad to see you here. I think you're really going to like WISH, I sure do :)

I agree with the other comments-- don't get discouraged -- it works, but sometimes more slowly. I began Atkins over three months ago. I was very discouraged in the beginning because I heard wonderful stories about people losing 20 lbs in 3 weeks but only lost 6 lbs -- that is far less than I could typically lose following weight watchers. But, with ww, I would limit my calorie intake to under 1000, which I could only sustain for maybe 6 weeks -- then I'd gain it back and then some. My weight loss is much slower on Atkins but I feel like it is do-able for the long-term. So far, I'm down 21 lbs. and it hasn't really been that bad. It try and stay under 20 grams of carbs during the week; weekends I have a little more. I understand your frustration at the food choices. I don't like eggs or meat much so I'm not going to have bacon and eggs for b'fast every day. Instead, I usually have an Atkins shake and then a salad with chicken or turkey and cheese for lunch. I sometimes have an Atkins bar around 3:00. Dinner varies. One suggestion is to make tacos using Atkins wraps. Also try Sugar free jellos or cheesecake for dessert. We have a bakery in our area that makes SF cheesecake that is to die for (the atkins cheesecake is not great). Anyway, you might want to try it again, knowing that after 2 weeks you can work in low-carb food alternatives from Atkins.

Thank you so much.
I started Atkins today.
Not hungry but in a bit of a bad mood.
I told my Hubby..."its not me, its everyone else:rolleyes: "

It is so nice to have so many of you. You are all so kind.
Have a wonderful night :)
I joined.......
I cant wait to see that cute clipart!

Just remember candy.....losing only 2 pounds in a week IS healthy. Losing 20 pounds in a month generally is NOT but is good if you do (supposedly). I have had a weight problem my whole life - since I was about 10. I have always been told - even by my docs that in order to lose healthy you should only lose 2-3 pounds per week. It is discouraging when it's that low number and you've tried so hard but it is also good that it's going down by that per week and not up!!!!!! Gotta keep that in mind.

I'm not an Atkins person but I just had to add that. Losing 2 a week is better than gaining 2 a week!
