I just asked DH if we can "think" about upgrading to a Deluxe hotel, The Poly, and he said, YES........
I love him but he knows how i am, (very frugel) and although i would loveeeeeeeee to do this, i am soooooooo frugel, and its almost killing me to do this....part of me can't see spending the money on a hotel that we will barely be in, the other part of me is so dreading lugging 4 kids and a double stroller on those horrible buses.....and he refuses to drive around the parking lots for spots.....:scared1:

I emailed my agent to see how much of a price difference it would be....that will be the deciding factor (for me anyway) for him, he's like go for it, i don't know why i just can't spend the money.....just wanted to share.......I really have to weigh the pro's and con's....

Hi, Our finances this year were a roller coaster, so we've really been switching. First, we were going to stay at CSR, the AkL, then PoFq, finally we have downgraded and our staying at All Star Movies.

I wish we are still going to AKL but I was really uncomfortable with paying that amount. I feel so much better now. Our unexpected bills are paid, the trip is paid in full, and we have spending money. We don't go till August.

It was a bummer but I know how you feel. Gotta weigh the pros and cons.
What are you trying to switch from, that will determine the price difference.

You know your financial situation better than anyone. But if my dh was saying go for it, I know I would be.

There can be a lot of factors in making the decision as to whether it's worth the $$$. How old are your kids? Will you spend a lot of time at MK? Will anyone need an afternoon nap? Much easier if you could just jump on the monorail. Also, how about the time of year? I don't mind the buses that much in December but I wouldn't feel the same way if it were July!

i originally have my rooms booked at the ASMo's, two adjoining rooms, which i think makes my total close to 3500.00....i am waiting for my agent to get back to me, but i want to try the Poly, which would make my total, i think close to 4500.00

well the kids range from age 6 to 15 months (when we go) and we are going in December....so you're saying the buses are less crowded in Dec.?
they don't nap anymore, and if they were tired they would prob. just fall asleep in the stroller....i have a feeling i might be sticking with the value resorts, :guilty:

If you want to go for the Poly and you can afford it, go for it! Maybe you can cut back somewhere else in your trip to be able to afford the upgrade, maybe use the pool at the Poly instead of a water park day. Good luck!

If you are going in the first couple of weeks of December, yes the crowds are low.

I understand your dilemma. I am an official cheapskate. My dream locale is the Poly. My DH has said the same thing - go ahead and book it. I can't bring myself to do it. First, we hardly spend any time in the room and at the resort at all. Second, the price difference is huge, the cheapo in me keeps winning out over the Poly desire part of me. I don't book, then we get there and I think -I wish we were staying at the Poly. Then, I get home, book the trip for the next year and the cycle starts again. I can totally relate to your dilemma. I always tell my DH, aren't you glad you got stuck with a cheapskate wife! I am definitely not high maintenance. I will pay for the mod as I think the extra room, the refrigerator, and the dividing curtain are now necessary for my family.

I say absolutely GO FOR IT!!!! If you were just upgrading to a moderate, I'd say don't waste your money - there is not near enough of a difference between a value and a moderate to justify the price difference, however, the difference in amenities between a value and a deluxe is huge!

As I read on another thread recently, you can't take it with you! And since you don't splurge that often, what better time (Christmas time) or place (Disney) to do it!!!! :cool1:

I have stayed at all the levels. I love Poly and the convience of the monorail and AKL is our family favorite. However, financially, it is more practical to stay at the value. We can go more often if we stay at a values ;)

We have stayed at ASMovies on the last 2 trips and loved it. We have 2 kids though so we only need one room. Now, with your youngest being 6 months, at the deluxe you may be able to stay in one room together. That would be worth something for me.

I'm also a convicted cheap skate.
$1000 is a lot of extra money, but that's not to say that if the convience is worth it you shouldn't do it. Only you know how much the convience is worth to you and the family.
In my case, I wouldn't spend it. That's a lot of extra money for a room that we would hardly be in. Short story, DH and I have been planning a 10th anniversary trip and planned on staying at the GF, well when it came time to book the trip, neither one of us could go through with it and we settled on the Yacht club for half of our trip and the Hilton in DTD for the 2nd half. We got a great rate on both of them through AAA otherwise we probably would have picked something cheaper yet.
One last thing, when you drive to the parks, you don't have to look for a parking spot. The parking attendants direct you to the next available spot. So it's pretty simple and quick.
I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you decide.

hmm did not know that about the parking....i'll have to look into that also, but i know him he's not going to wanna search for parking back at the hotel either...but thanks for your input;)

DH and I are doing AKL during free dining. Yes, it's costing us a lot more than the original reservations at the PORS (FQ king size bed isn't on the free DDP list) would've been but since we're going alone and have only stayed value before, we'll see if it's something we want to save for on another trip or if we're truly happy staying somewhere cheaper.

It was a tough decision though.

I'm on your side about not wanting to spend money for a room you are barely in! DH totally disagrees. So our deal is that if he wants to stay at AKL, he has to work the OT to make up the difference in the price :rotfl: and he does!!! To him, it's a huge difference. And honestly, DD was a lot happier at AKL than at POP.

I say book it for Poly. I would take advantage of the fact that he told you to do it. My husband also told me to book a Deluxe as he doesnt want to deal with buses, etc.....I felt bad at first but got over it. I dont think he wants to go back to Disney or at least not for a long long while after this first trip, so we may as well live it up and stay in the best place. We have 3 kids and this will be the best thing for us especially being able to ride the Monorail and go back & forth as needed which will be convenient. Also my kids love the waterslides and if we went with a value we wouldnt get that. Best of all my husband is 6'3 and CANNOT or WILL NOT attempt to sleep in a double bed so that pretty much made up his mind fast.

Even though you are going in December, I think the Poly would be best. Your kids are young and they have a zero-entry pool as well as the monorail to take to GF to see Christmas decorations (big gingerbread house!) and back and forth to MK. Go for it - You'll have a trip you'll never forget!!!

what do you mean zero entry pool? sorry

A zero entry pool is like the ocean, you walk right into it. You don't have to step down into it.

Another option would be a Moderate. It would be an upgrade from a value without the whole upgrade in price.
