OK... So, today...
Actually it was a really good day, but to sum it up in a few words for those in a rush - It was really hot and sticky, my feet and calves are killing me, I think I have heat rash on my lower legs and a sunburn...
We got up at 7am this morning and decided we were going to start the day at the Imperial Palace. Using Hyperdia we found how to get there and set off. The train lines are easy enough to work out, so long as you know which line you're after and which station.
I had read somewhere that the Imperial Palace is open to the public on public holidays, which today was supposed to be
but it wasn't open, so we walked all over the East Gardens - they are amazing!
We bought some iceblocks from one of the rest houses in the parks and they were awesome - sort of like sunny boys if you know what they are, but softer so you could bite them if you wanted to.
Just before 12 we decided we were getting hungry, so we headed out of the park along some random street and into some random building
and decided to eat at a little restaurant called Leaf Kitchen (or was it Kitchen Leaf?) basically you got some meat, some garlic, some onion in a spicy sauce, some kimchi and some other spicy something or other and wrap it in lettuce and eat it. I ate it with just the pork, garlic and a little of the spicy onion and it was pretty damn tasty!
We then decided that it was early enough to try tackling Ueno Park, so we hopped on the Yamanote line and made our way there.
We walked around the park for a little bit, they had some street vendors selling food, as well as a few market stalls. We also spend the 600Y each to go into the zoo. For 600Y it's actually a pretty good zoo - not so much for the animals, but you can get pretty close to them, which is good for pics.
For those who have read Lurkyloo's TR - she mentions (and shows pics) a lake in the middle of Ueno park, which is sort of plain and bare, well this is what it looks like in summer:
We also saw a shrine while there;
By this time we decided we were pretty tired, so we headed back to CST for a bit of a rest.
We annointed our burns, bandaged our blisters and soaked our feet for maybe 2 hours.
Then we decided to venture out for dinner.
We just walked from CST to find dinner, basically we just headed towards the lights. We wandered the streets for probably over an hour or more trying to decide where we should try and eventually settled on a place (I have photos, I just haven't taken them off the camera yet...)
This place was great, good big servings and my meal was only 450Y and I think DH's 2 bowls was 620Y. They only had water for drinking, which would usually be a bad thing, but I think we were pretty dehydrated that we didn't mind... We have decided that if we can't decide where to eat during the week, we'll just come back to this place.
After our meal we headed into an arcade - people are allowed to smoke in these places, so they smell terrible, and music is blasted out of every machine, so they sound terrible too, but it was fun. We had a go on 3 machines - one of those sorta claw machines
, kind of a virtual reality pod like thing, and something we thought was a poker machine (slot machine) but sorta ended up being a little like a pin ball machine...
We really had no idea how any of the machines worked, we just pushed random buttons and got excited when it starting making noises, and flashing lights...
We also got some footage of people who know what they're doing, those people are nuts!!
(I will post it, you just need to be patient with me!)
After a while of wandering around and getting lost we headed back to CST. Like I said at the beginning, I'm pretty sore, but it sure was worth it!
Now I better get some sleep, DISNEYLAND TOMORROW!!!
