We can't discuss politics here but are bombarded by political ads at the top of the page:confused3 I get enough of that crap at home, didn't expect to see it here:eek:

The owners of the DIS Boards/WDWinfo.com don't control the advertising, but the advertising helps keep these boards free.

It'll be over in less than 24 hours.

This topic comes up every fall. Google places ads based on multiple criteria outside of the control of the board owners. There will be political ads partly because of key words, like those locations most people have set, and partly on critical mass alone because so many of them are bought.

I can't believe how many people don't understand how web advertising works, it isn't that difficult.

:rotfl:, I was thinking the same thing the last time. But I do understand that business is business, and the advertisement are a way to keep the DIS up and running:goodvibes

::yes:: If the issue had been presented sooner, pne of the WebMasters would have explained the entire process in more detail... but come to think of it, the political ads only appeared (or at least I only noticed them) in the last couple of days. And now we're down to a mere fourteen hours and three minutes - at least in the Eastern time zone.

I don't have any political ads or any ads at all. I wonder why.

Some of us "get" it, just don't like it. I don't care about discussing politics. I am ignoring the telephone and tv, wish I could ignore them here also. Really it won't all go away. These are merely the primaries.

I can't believe that there are people out there who think we are so stupid that they actually believe that we don't understand how web advertising works. ;)

We understand, we just don't agree with it. We are told that we are not allowed to discuss politics and yet we have to look at campaign stuff on the very board we aren't allowed to discuss it on.

I know, as i'm sure most of us on here know, that the Dis board owners have no control over what ads google flashes for everyone to see.

Because you are lucky?:rotfl:

No, these are not the primaries. Those were back in August. This is the real deal and we will be deciding who will be in office.

Lol, jennasis you are if course right. I heard someone say that early this am and thought I'd been wrong all this time. I was devastated!

You can ignore them. I use Firefox with AdBlock and don't see a one. Instead of hoping the site owners block ads you (general you) can be proactive and block them yourself.

Obviously not since people ask why the site owners, using Google AdSense, don't block political ads which is not possible using Google AdSense. The types of ad blocking you can do with that particular product aren't fine grained enough to block all political ads. You can block ads based on URL but because the political ads come from hundreds if not thousands of URLs that won't do it. It would be cost prohibitive to even try. Ad Review will determine if the content is suitable for the audience of your site (no beer ads for leapfrog.com for example) but political ads are not deemed inappropriate for any demographic by Google. Lastly the sensitive content filter will keep ads from appearing on inappropriate pages (no amusement park ads on a page displaying a story about a ride accident and death at Six Flags), but political ads don't fall under this category either.

I don't have any ads either. It wouldn't bother me either way

So, just curious, are you getting 8 or 9 calls a day and a half dozen flyers in the mail? I think my tolerance is just smaller than you all! I hate the money it costs and that it takes my time and attention.

Honestly, I didn't even notice the ads-- too busy DISing.

It doesn't bother me anyways. Easy to ignore and I understand why they're there.

I'd rather have a free DIS with ads than not. JMO. :)

Me too! I'm just sick of it. It's even worse for my elderly father. He gets an unfathomable amount of political mailings. He has a huge mailbox and it's always jam packed with the crap. One day, I threw away half a garbage bag full. I don't know why he gets that much. :confused3 He never responds to anything or sends money.

Dude, didn't really ask for a synoposis on it....just stating a fact. Politics are off limits here, odd to see political ads. It was more of a rhetorical "I don't get it"...do you get that?:)

Ah, so instead of seeking an actual explanation why you're seeing the ads - despite the DIS ban on political discussion - and gaining knowledge of how something works, you were just venting?

I had to go look and see what ad was at the top of mine. I just don't even pay attention to them at all.
