Don't get me wrong I love a good character meal- we did 4 on our last trip but I had no motivation to book Chef Mickey- even with all the hype.

Now that we are going again in May I felt the need to book it but I'm not excited about it. My only real motivation is that I know Mickey will be there and that I could be missing something.

Help me please. What is the draw? We walked by it in Sept. and it just looked like a random place sitting in the middle of a loud lobby. I have 2 and 4 year old boys so do you think it's worth it?

The food quality at Chef Mickey's, especially at dinner, we find to be a notch lower than most of the other character buffets. That being said, the atmosphere is cool and the character interaction and activities are very good. Your boys will probably love the idea of seeing the monorails gliding overhead during your meal.

It was okay. Probably my least favorite of all the Character meals we've done. I don't know if they still have a bird problem but there were sparrows flying around the time we went (but that was in 2010 or 2011 and birds kind of freak me out).

We have always liked Garden Grill to see Farmer Mickey. And we did breakfast at Tusker House this last time and Mickey is there as well.

The only draw is 'Mickey' - not the location and not the food!

Sorry. Chef Icky's is in our Top 3 of no-no restaurants for us. To be followed by

-Hollywood & Slime:crazy2:

Our first trip was 2010 and we went to Chef Mickey's also and were not impressed at all. The food was lack luster, plain ole buffet food, and the characters were great but you can see Mickey at other places also.

We are not rebooking for Aug, even the kids agreed.

Crystal Palace was also another one that we all disliked very much. It was super crowded, you couldn't move between the tables, extremely loud and the food was just okay. Not going back there either.

The food sucks! The only draw are the Fab 5, and also the monorail going thru the resort. Im sure boys your kids age will love it....character interaction is good. Other than that, Its not worth it IMO.

Thanks everyone- I'm glad I'm not the only one. I may start looking at other places for dinner reservations.

I wish Cape May had Mickey- I think that was the best all around character meal last trip.

We went to Chef Mickey's in 1997 as our first ever character meal so my parents have always had a soft spot for it, however after entirely average visits in 2007 and 2010 I finally talked them out of a visit in 2012. There's absolutely nothing special and I actually dislike the dining areas.

We have done both breakfast and dinner there as it is a favorite of our kiddos. Breakfast is much better!

If you are looking to see Mickey I suggest Tusker House for breakfast. We ate there at lunch a couple of years ago and we did not care for the spices on the food. The breakfast is great. We've had wonderful character interactions every time we have been there.

I also recommend Garden Grill. The food was very good, but the character interaction was awesome!

I also avoid Chef Mickey's like the plague.

I had all 3 of these out of my Rotation but then DISNEY adds Doc and Sofia to Hollywood and Slime so now i have to go there. And 2 days before making my ADR's my DD(7) comes to me and says "Daddy i want to go to Mickey's Chef" She has called it that since she was 2 dont ask... I was lik "ooooooooo it closed..." she laughed and said no it didn't so what am i supposed to do? I booked Cape May instead and DW called me a child LOL I said But the food sucks at CM's ughhhhhhhhhhhh looks like that day ill be getting a turkey leg REALLLLL Early

I used to be good about 10 years ago. Now they have raised the price and cheapened the food. The last time we went I said never again. Too bad as I have good memories from there and would like to go but no way with poor food and a high price.

That's a good one!

Breakfast food is good and there is a wide variety to choose from.

There are not a huge number of seats and it seems like when we visited that all of the characters spent a good amount of time at each table. Which was great!

Looks like we are in the minority here! :goodvibes We love Chef Mickey! It's our traditional arrival night dinner. The food is not gourmet, but we have never had a bad meal there. The characters are fun, it's loud and crazy and we love every minute of it! I was very disappointed not to be able to get in for our upcoming trip.
Nobody likes it, but, it's so hard to get a reservation! :confused3 :goodvibes

I completely agree. I always say it's a beginners character meal. I stopped going a while ago. It wasn't up to par with other character meals.

I love the breakfast buffet. It is my favorite character buffet. Their cheesy potatoes and mickey waffles are the best!

I guess my family is different, we liked Chef Mickey's. We had a good breakfast in March, and our kids were disappointed that on our New Year's trip we didn't make it there . We also ate at Hollywood & Vine for lunch on both trips because our teenage boys enjoyed the place as much as our preschoolers.

I would totally go as its super fun for kids. It was a little too crazy for us, but I'm so glad we did it once. I have the cutest pics and my kids have great memories of the experience. While we didn't feel the need to return, it was a classic meal. Definitely do breakfast! The Mickey waffles and fare go perfect with the whole vibe!
