After seeing a show yesterday where Suzy Orman talked about money and debt with credit cards i just closed my AMEX card and cut it up. I have one more card left and that is next to go. if I can't pay cash I would buy it no matter if it is food or toliet paper. This one incomes and owning a house SUCKS big time. I am so in the hole I can't even climb out. The more depressed I get the more I was spending, hence I bought an 18 thousand $$$$$ car to try and make myself happy. Oh brother, is life worth living being unhappy, i am not sure anymore, wait I am sure just God has made a cruel joke with my life and lets me wake up every orning. Sorry, I just had to vent, Life has nothing to offer me anymore

no advice to offer. just some {{HUGS}} it will get better.

Good for you!!!! But may I suggest keeping just one with a zero balance for emergencies (unless you already have a huge savings account)? You can keep it in your bank safe so you don't use it! Also, {{HUGS}}... I feel you... hubby2b and I are both broke and unemployed and supposed to be married on Vday in Vegas with a Disneymoon... not sure where that $ is coming from!

Gail, life has many great things in it that are non-monetary. I'm sorry you're so down. {{hugs}}

It's great that you are getting rid of your credit cards. That kind of debt is never a good idea. But I'm really sorry that you are feeling so down about life right now.

Well, try to be happy you are making a good first step!
You may antt o keep one credit card open for emergencies, like if they tow your car or you get a flat, etc. Feel better!

Gail, I hope you're feeling better soon!! My hubby and I have been through the "big paydown" when we had to work so hard to get out of debt. It's worth it!!!

Just take a deep breath and take babysteps - I promise you'll be feeling better soon.

(((hugs)))

Im sorry youre feeling so down.

Life has SO much to offer you that doesnt involve money :)

God Bless!

{{{HUGS}}} I am so sorry that you are having such a rough time of it! I, too, would advise keeping at least one credit card (not in your purse) for emergencies.

Question for you, if you don't mind. Since I will be moving on with my life (ie- out of my house with Jim), I was thinking of buying a small home. Rent around here is just as expensive and an apartment- YUCK. Do you wish you were renting instead of owning a home? Just curious since I will be going into that situation.

I pay less money then if I rented and apartment but it isnt easy. I rely on my son to mow and do all the guy things( he is going on 21) and I pay the bills. O dpnt have a degree so what I make pays the bills and that is it. I was charging to try and make myself happy but no matter what I got I was still miserable. being on your own is not easy but it can be done. I guess I get pissed when I hear or read things about how the spouses and themselves had a hard time finacially. well I wanna say at least you did it together, alone sucks. sorry for being so down but I am at the point where I dont give a **** to even wake up breather. Thanks for letting me vent. gail

Good luck Gail. Me and DW did this a while ago. We did keep one card with a low limit for emergencies and to have one available if we ever need to guarantee a hotel room or rent a car. Whenever we do use it we try to pay it off as sson as we get the first bill. Most times we don't actually use it, just give the hotel or car rental place the card number and then pay cash.

First off congratulations on cutting it up. That is the first step in financial independence.

I cut ours up about four years ago, and I don't regret it in the least. We got rid of our AMX a while ago as well, and now it is so freeing.

First, realize that money or lack of it, does not constitute happeiness. I read an amazing book called Affluenza, and Your Money, Your Life, and How to live Debt Free....all those reads were amazing. (Don't buy them go to the library to get them!)

As for the car, well, don't know what to tell you. DH did that once, before I knew him... and it was an emotional decision.

I am currenlty unemployed as well.. and I know how it is. As for not having a degree, well, I just decided to go back to school. Its not the worse thing! Its actually fun and it gave me a great purpose .. consider it!
