I.D. tag for kids

I liked the idea too. On the same idea.... I am going to head over to the local Pet Smart store and get a fun shaped tag with my DDs names and my cell number. I can either clip it to her shoe or make a necklace.

Kevin mentioned on the E-mail show that a good method for keeping track of your child in the parks is to have them wear a dog tag (I.D. tag) in their shoe lace's. What a great idea this is. In the military we wear a dog tag in our boot for I.D. and medical info in the event we cannot give the info ourselves. I know it's a bit disturbing to compare these two things but the basic objective is the same. A cast member who finds a lost toddler can help much more efficiently with the small bit of info contained on the I.D. tag. Great idea Kevin.:thumbsup2

You know, I've done this for years and my kids love them! I started going to the pet id machine at Pet Smart or Walmart! They often have ones with Superman or whatever is popular at the time. When my kids were smaller, they kept them on all of the time, not just at Disney.
It's kind of nice to hear that gentle clink of the tag when they walk.
We put:
NAME
DAD 123-456-7890
GDAD 123-456-7809

That usually fits. That way we have my DH's cell on there and my FIL's. We like to have a base at home that we can call if we need to. If we loose reception or something in the park.

My boys have dog tags that I got from gotags.com a few years ago. We use them all the time for WDW, Busch Gardens, the State Fair, etc. They always wear sandals to the parks & such so the shoelace thing doesn't work, so they wear them on chains around their necks :thumbsup2

They say:
Adam Lastname
Mom - Annette
My cell #
Dad - Shannon
DH's cell #

I liked these better than the PetSmart ones because you can put so much more info on them. Plus, I could get lime green silencers :teeth:

We do dog tags as well but around their necks. We got the heavy ones from the machine at Space Mountain. We put the kids first names and DH's cell #. Don't forget the area code!
I think this is the one thing we get complimented on the most from parents and Cast Members.

Our collection keeps growing. I think this year I'm going to add the necklace. I was even thinking about making them out of the LGMH's from HD. Decorate them, write on them, Laminate them, round the edges, and add them to the lanyards. We have some thin ones left over from a project at work. But you can buy a pack of them cheap in the office supply section.

Brings back memories. When my DS (21 now:scared1:) was a toddler and started bolting around WDW I realized I needed something just in case and fast. When I got back to the Contemp I made a small label (I think it was out of a hankerchief) with the hotel our last name & important home #s on it written in permanent marker. I then stitched it under the tongue his sneaker. He thought it was so cool he had my autograph on the inside of his shoe:love:

We use bracelets (like the Lance Armstrong ones) that are engraved w/ our cell phone info. Half of our trip dd was wearing Crocs so attaching something to a sneaker wouldn't work.

I ordered two bracelets for each of our two kids... one extra for each for backup. The total order only came to $12 including shipping.

Dd (6.5yo) wore hers on her wrist and ds (2yo) wore his on his ankle!

Another option are the velcro "Who's Shoes' tags that kids can put on their shoes. We went w/the family last year & my SIL had those on all the kids shoes. Anyone gets lost pop it open & there were the cell #'s.

Fortunately they never were needed, but it felt good knowing they were there just in case.

This is exactly what we did!!! Katie loved hers.

Where did you order these bracelets?

Just choose the Laser Engraved option. I had ours engraved w/:

If Lost Call My Mom XXX-XXX-XXXX (cell)
If Lost Call My Dad XXX-XXX-XXXX (cell)

They have you fill in what to write on each "side." Basically it means the top and bottom of the bracelet. I was afraid it was going to be the inside and outside, but it wasn't.

They really worked out well for us.

They are all great ideas - reminds me of the horror of my DS wandering off in line:scared1:

It was in Disneyland Paris and we were with another family - My DH,DD,DS as well as another family all went to ride Phantom Manor as I waited in the sun. It is set out quite similar to the WDW ride . Anyway 10 minutes later I saw DH running by and knew something was wrong - DS who was the 3 had gone. They were standing in the queue and they turned and he had gone :scared1:

Panic ensued,I cried and we thought he couldn't have gone far due to the queue set up - he could only have gone one of two ways back down the queue on into the ride. Well I decided to check the exit side and here he came out of the Exit door . He was too small to tell us where he had been ,he just kept saying he had seen ghosts !!!! We will never know to this day what happened to him in that missing 5 minutes but I am so grateful he came back safe.

So taking the time to tell your kids what to do if their mums and dads get lost is a must for use before every trip

Thanks for the info, we were looking for something like this for our upcoming trip

On DD's first trip I went to Michael's and bought alphanumeric beads and ball chain necklaces - it all came in a kit. She already wears a medic alert necklace for her peniciilan (sp?) allergy and wears crocs so the shoe thing wasn't going to work. We made a necklace with our resort name and a cell phone number on it.

Now, having the kit, we change it up for where ever we go. And we can change it for the cell phone we are currenlty using. (I think we have gone someplace other than Disney...) And I was able to share with my DFF (Disney freak friend) for her trip.

That reminds me, I have to discuss this with the family we are headed back with.

Thanks all!

We also used a silicone bracelet, we had our cell phone numbers engraved on it and I let my DS pick out the color. He was 6 on our last trip. I ordered an adult size and he wore it on his ankle. It worked out great for us, and we have used it for other occasions as well.:thumbsup2 :

I also use Dog/Id tags for my kids. I don't put as much info as some others on here. I put:
Child First Name
Dad: CELL NUMBER
Mom: CELL NUMBER
Grandparents: PHONE NUMBER
I leave off last names and parental first names because I figure if my child is lost nobody needs my first name to call me, his mother or his grandparents. And if some bad person was (somehow) able to read these tags that bad person could approach my son and appear to be knowledgeable (knowing his first and last name, parental names ETC....

I made our "dog tags" without the kid's names. Mom (number) and Dad (number) only. I was so worried someone would find them before a cast member and use their name as a way to convince them they know them. :confused3
