It's amazing how fast your hair will grow when you just leave it alone. I had to learn that hard way. Older folks had been telling me that for years, but I didn't believe it.


I"ve thought about getting dreds a few times, but I don't have the guts to do it. I did get my hair braided and twisted last week. Twist are as close the dreads as I'll ever get.

Hey! You're right - I've noticed how nicely my hair is growing! Check out youtube's videos on natural hair, the big chop, and locs. Maybe that'll give you the guts to take the big leap!

For some reason, dreads just fascinate me! My DD14 just laughs at me and rolls her eyes! I really better not tell her I'm following a "dreads thread," she'll think I've totally lost it!

Yes, I survived the Big Chop! That was more daring than getting on the Tower of Terror!

As for youtube, I'm on there alot but havent posted. If I do, it'll be after a year, so I can make a video consisting of all the pics. OH! I guess I should figure out HOW to do that! I have NO IDEA!

Does everyone who gets dreds have to cut their hair really short to get them in the long locks? Or can they start out with longer hair? I have to admit I've only ever seen them on white people in person, and they were always long.

Hey that's not a stupid question. To start your locs, your hair can NOT have any chemicals in it. So I had to have all of my perm cut off, down to the new growth. Think of it this way, when women bleach their hair and you see their natural dark hair at their roots growing in - that's their natural non-chemical, non-straightened hair. Hope that make sense (I'm talking on the phone while I'm typing).
