Hello there!
I feel like sharing; I hope no one minds!
Since April (the 19th to be exact) I have been working hard to get healthy. Watching what I eat, journaling every bite, exercising regularly, and setting fitness goals to keep me motivated. My long-term goal is to do the Princess Half Marathon in 2012 (must save for this, thus the far off date). In the meantime I am trying to do one event a month for the foreseeable future. Last month I completed my first 5k and today I completed my 2nd. I felt more prepared for this one happily. I had a whole extra month of training under my plus-sized belt, waaayyy better shoes (what a difference!) and some clue on how these events work.
One thing I had to keep running through my brain on this one was "DLF>DNF>>DNS". Cuz I was dead last on this one. That being said I shaved over 4 minutes off my previous time! I am beyond thrilled with my results. Sure I was last, just behind a bearded older gentleman likely in his 70's; but I did it and improved my time. That's all I can ask for!
It makes such a huge difference to me having these events to look forward to and train for to help me stay motivated. And it really helps to read the experiences of those of you who have been doing this for a long time. So thank you for sharing and thank you for dispensing advice to us newbies!
Now I must go find a race for August....
(For those who may be intersted, I'm down 25+ pounds or 10% of my original starting weight since April 19th.
