I cheated at school today...it was a fellow teacher's b-day and some of my fave things were on the table! It's hard to believe that I've lived this virtually sugar-free life for over 6 weeks, but it's true! And today it showed!

Well, I had a few bites (like 4) of bday cake with great frosting and some fruit and (awesome) dip. plus a chocolate chip cookie.

NOW, I DID eat some cheese w/ the fruit (protein w/fruit is good, right??? ), but the other was not good!

By about 2pm, I was a mess and I still am! I feel all out of sorts and restless. I'm nauseous and want to sleep. I enjoyed the bites at the time, but man--I regret it now!

Could this all be from the sugar, or is it all in my head?!? I don't want to cheat again if I'll feel this lousy! (BTW, it might not be a good idea to tell me that it's all in my head b/c then I'll justify the cheat and be more likely to repeat it! ;) )

{{{Hugs}}}, Carmen. I don't know about Atkins, but I just wanted to say hang in there. Getting back on program will have you straightened out in no time, I'll bet. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi Carmen,

I know exactly what you mean. Just get right back on your plan...everything will be ok.

Hubby and I occasionally take a day off the plan to go out and do something special. The last time we took a day off to try a new restaurant we have been wanting to try for a year...while everything was absolutely excellent...I felt guilty the entire weekend...I really shouldn't feel guilty, we got right back on the atkins plan monday morning...our progress was slowed slightly...but we are back on track now.

Keep up the good work...a little side track now and then may be good for you!

Actually, Carmen, when you've been on Atkins for 6 weeks, I can believe that the cheat made you feel nauseous and out of sorts. Sugar and processed carbs really are poison for some of us. Just get back on the plan and you'll be fine. Try drinking extra water to flush all that stuff out of your system. I've also heard that a walk helps when you're feeling bad because of a cheat - it pumps up the metabolism and works those carbs through your body faster.

People often wonder why it's so easy for me to stay on low-carb and not feel the urge to cheat - now you know my secret!

Eating sugar after being "free" will definately mess you up. Get back on program and remember how yuck sugar feels and you'll never cheat again (well, probably never LOL!).

Good luck!! :D

It is NOT in your head. Definately the effects of a "sugar overdose". Just get back on plan, NOW!

Once you start slipping, the next cheats don't bother you as much and then you're back where you started. I found that out the hard way on vacation. Some bread one day led to more the next and eventually became ice cream sundaes. I'm now looking at 5 pounds that I thought were gone.

One slipup won't hurt in the long haul. Think of it as a learning moment!
