I have been going back and forth and can't come up with an answer. Should I rent or drive my truck? Depending on the changes in gas prices the price looks to be about the same if I take my truck or rent something. It looks like if I rent it would be a ford focus which I used to own and have driven about five hours in before. Should I go for the comfort of my own truck and wear and tear on my own vehicle or some discomfort and the safety of knowing if my rental car breaks down I would get a new one and get back on the road? Please any advice would be appreciated. Oh I drive a Nissan Titan also.

I would rent. I drive a silverado, and I love it, but I would much rather take a ford focus and save on gas and wear and tear. It's just not worth taking the risk with the truck, in my opinion.

We always rented for a couple of reasons

1. More room as we rented a mini van. That was priceless as we are from MI and would drive straight through.. then either me or my DH could spread out in the back seat to rest.
2. Put the wear and tear on someone elses vehicle.
3. If you vehicle breaks down you can get a different one.. plus you won't be at the mercy of someone in a town you don't know where they can really sock it to you on repairs.
4. If you get in an accident at least you don't have to go car/truck shopping when you get back home... plus then you would have to rent one anyways to get back home and one ways always cost a lot more.

From Atlanta? that is a no brainier. Take your own car. Seriously. it's like 3 tanks of gas round trip. All highway miles. That is zero wear and tear on a modern vehicle.

Over 4 tanks of gas, you may only save $50 in gas from driving a focus as opposed to you truck, yest still pay $300 to rent the car.

I drive from st. Louis every year (when we dont fly). 2,200 miles round trip. I buy a car to drive, not to look at. When you go to trade it in or sell it, do you think it will matter if it has 71,xxx miles instead of 7,3xx mile?

I say, you got a car...drive it.

Having said that...We rented a car just once because my old beater wouldn't make it to Orlando. At the end of the trip, I noticed I had paid a lot of money just to have the rental sit in the resort parking lot as once we got there, we parked and didn't touch the car until it was time to drive home. If you MUST rent a car and plan on using Disney transportation for everything, maybe you could turn the car in and then pick up a new one and maybe save a couple bucks.
