Here is my dilema...DH and I are going to DLR January 25 - February 1. I have booked us in at the Candy Cane Inn in a Premium room for our stay. But now I've been looking at the Hojo entertainment rate thing and I can get a MUCH better rate by staying there so I'm torn, what do I do??

I have never stayed at either. This past March we stayed at the Menage (never again) and as a kid we either stayed at the DLH or the Tropicana. I've also been reading about the BWPPI (I can get a decent rate there too) can anyone add any insight and help me decide.

I've read a lot of the CCI and Hojo comp. threads and it doesn't seem like there is too much different between the 2 (except for the price with the Ent. Rate). We don't have children (yet) so added things like Pirates Cove at Hojo don't really matter.

For two adults without children what would you suggest??

TIA

The Candy Cane offers free breakfast and a free dedicated shuttle. We've stayed at both. They are both very nice. It all depends on whether you want free breakfast and a free ride home after walking in the parks all day. The walk is about the same distance for both properties.

hmm... maybe I'll just call the Hojo, the shuttle and breakfast make no difference to me as I wouldn't use either.

Yes! every other hotel is less expensive than the DLR hotels, Hojo has NO bus it is a 15 minute walk to DL. here is a map of DL hotels!!
http://www.geocities.com/ashpsyche/DisneylandLinkMap.html

I will send Pixie Dust ~~*~~ for Warm for you!!
January 25 - February 1 you are going to want to be close, and a bus, If it is as COLD as it was last January!!! Wear coats on the plane!! I had to buy a coat. Of course that didn't even help with the side ways rain and the freezing wind, brrrrrrrrr!
Pixie Dust~~*~~ Pixie Dust~~*~~

Mostly it is the Experience you need to decide on 1. All Disney or 2. a Cheap trip, it is still very Magic!!

Harbor BLVD is closer to the DL Gates for the Best Closest, Suites, I like Desert Inn and Suites. Very ECV friendly Lobby.

But most any close to DL Harbor Blvd hotel is great!!

Thanks for the info, I'm not sure about the 15 minute walk since that's all it took DH and I from the Menage, as for the COLD part, I live in Alberta, Canada it's cold here so anything above freezing is warm. But yes it does get cool in So. Cal at night so I always make sure to have a light jacket or hoddie.

Well I just got off the phone with inhouse reservations... I'm so glad I called what great customer service at the Hojo.

Hmm lets compare the hotel prices... Candy Cane Inn for 7 nights $1300 Hojo for 7 nights $560 with Ent. rate for 4 nights. Super deal and it means I can spend more at Sephora in Downtown Disney!!! Oh and make lots of PS reservations.

It's never taken us 15 minutes to get to or from hojo. It's about 4 minutes to the parking lot from the crosswalk on harbor, IF you cross over where everyone else is crossing. The bulk of the walk is getting through and out of the esplanade, and out TO the crosswalk. :)

There's a hot tub in the cove area of HoJo, and their pool in the garden area is wonderful looking (I don't really enjoy swimming so I haven't been in, but DS and DH loved it).

I'm like you and don't eat b'fast at the hotel, I eat at the parks! :)

You probably can't go wrong with either, so it's just up to you and your wallet for this decision. Good luck!

I've stayed at HoJo, Candy Cane and Best Western Park Place Inn.
All of them are fine places.
Candy Cane Inn Has nicer decor and is prettiest, it has outside corridors as it was an older two story motel that was very nicely remodeled.
HoJo has numerous building all with interior corridors and most with balconies. The decore is not as nice but the rooms are bigger and there are more grouns to it. If pools matter to you HoJo has two large ones. The others have one smaller pool. HoJo and Candy Cane have about the same walk time. We do it in 7-10 minutes

BWPPI has outside corridors. The decor is fine and it is comfortable. It main draw is it has mini suites that sleep 6 and is at the stop light to cross over to Disneyland.

daanzzz, I'm pretty sure the new pirate cove took away the second pool. Now it's a big water play area, toddler pool, and hot tub over where the other pool used to be, and now there's just the one garden pool.

Ouch. That is tough one. I guess the kiddie play area is as much of a draw. ;)

It has NEVER taken us 15 min. to walk to the HoJo. It takes us about 10 max. Just cross at Manchester (Molly, do you have your uber cool link to show them?) and walk down the opposite side of Harbor, cut thru at the bus stop and you'll be there in 7-10 min TOPS. 10 is walking slowly at the end of the night....LOL So it usually takes us 5-7 really. My first choice is always the HoJo for those great rates, my second choice is CCI because if I'm paying over $100 a night I want a free shuttle and free breakfast! LOL :) Go with HoJo, you won't regret it!!

Hands down I would stay at HOJO's. The beds at HOJO are so comfy :), The staff is wonderful--, the garden pool is roomy with plenty of pool lounges and chairs, the new water "Play area" looks like so much fun for kids and having the hot tub there lets parents watch kids while enjoying themselves.

I have to admit I did like having a shuttle that runs every 30 mins from CCI to and from DL. (The driver /drivers are wonderful :) ), But that alone is not worth paying $700 more to stay at CCI V HOJO. Even if I add having a continental breakfast delivered to my door each morning that would not change my mind.

Even though I speak with first hand knowledge I feel uncomfortable speaking poorly of a resort, even though I have chosen to do just that. I feel I need to tell you about an experience I had at CCI. (Please no flames-- this is what happened to my sister and me. I know others have and will have different experiences-- this is only mine).

My sister and I shared a 2 dbl bed room. In the middle of the night my sister wakes up screaming :(. She had worms crawling all over her -- they were in the bed covers :(. We called front desk. It was suggested that we shake the bed coverings out and remake the bed :(. As it was maybe 2-3 am so we took the advice. That seemed to take care of the problem -- for that night anyway. I did ask if they could spray the room for pests during the day while we were at DL and that she would like her bed sheets and blankets--including bed cover changed.

We had no way of knowing if this was done. ( Not sure how to really check--I thought asking would be enough). Well next night thinking all is taken care of -- and having felt like I had just fallen asleep -- Sister screams again --:(. yes worms are back. I call front desk again. Again front desk would like us to shake sheets in hopes that problem will be taken care of. My husband says there are times I am to nice. My sister and I tried again to do as asked. This was actually a great idea as we did find that this room was infested with the green, furry, multi-legged worms. They were coming out of the air-conditioning, all around the window, and all over my sisters bed-- in and under. I have never seen a pest that looked like these. They were everywhere and could be seen by naked eye. I now realized that housekeeping had not changed bedding-- had not vacuumed -- or sprayed for pests after the scare we had the evening before. We were moved to a premium room around -2-4 am. Oh, yes I was told there would be no additional charge to have our room upgraded-- sigh. I did think I was entitled to a clean, pest free room where I could get a nights sleep with out getting startled and having to remake beds.

I had to this point stayed with CCI 2 times before. (They were on top floors-- maybe bugs and worms don't like 2nd floor rooms).

I did request to talk to the manager the next day -- actually got the feeling he did not believe me about how his front desk staff had tried to take care of issue -- both nights or that there were even bugs the first night as his staff had not seen anything that night. ( I guess I should have insisted housekeeping come and remake bed and such). He was very proud that staff had moved to a premium room--the second night. He seemed more concerned how we liked or disliked that room. The manager did not even say "He was sorry for an inconveince we suffered.

Visiting DL this last Oct. I had a room reserved at HOJO. It was going to be ready 30 mins after check-in. ( I understand that happens if say guest staying in room before has not checked out). I was given a gift card to the restaurant next door. I did not ask for any compensation--actually I did not even say anything other then I would wait in the building across the way.

I know any of this can happen at any time -- at any hotel-- I just know how I/we were accommodated when an issue did come up. (It would sure be nice if each shift wrote in a notebook or log what transpired the evening, night , or day before.)

If anyone from CCI reads this I would still like to know why the bug situation was taken care of the way it was :(.

As for the walking, I know the way you're talking about, when we stayed at the Menage we always walked on the opposite side of the street (next to the big Disney cement walls) it's great no people (well compared to opposite side) and we can make better time. DH and I are both tall too (he's 6'6" and I'm 5'11" so we walk faster than most anyways ;) )

Now I'm excited that since we have around $600 extra I can make some PS ressies....

Thanks for sharing you experience, I would have FREAKED if it had been me. DH and I are clean freaks at hotels, the first thing we do :scared1: when we walk in is inspect EVERYTHING, sheets, blankets etc and if anything isn't clean, etc. we call and get it changed.

I feel very confident that I made the right decision to stay at Hojo's :cheer2:

Oh ewww ewww ewww gross!!!! that would have grossed me out so bad!!!!! YUK!!!!!! I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. When we stayed at the CCI we stayed on the 2nd floor. Oh gross, I have the creepy crawlies now. YUK!

I'm sure I wont regret it!!!

Right, that's exactly the way to go. :) We saw quite a few people walking from the Menage when we were at HoJo in July. :)

I'd lie to concur with those who prefer CC over Hojo. The place just feels nicer and its proximity to DL makes the experience better.

Actually, they are very close in proximity...I've walked them both and the CCI was a longer walk than the HoJo was.
